College athlete 10 years later!

Greetings everyone! I'm kind of ashamed to say that I was a track and field athlete in college. I am 5'3.5" and currently 171lbs. When I was a runner, I was also lifting weights, and I weighed 125lbs. After graduating from college I maintained 130lbs pretty easily by eating right and running regularly. My life changed in a big way when I was laid off in 2008, and since then I have moved so many times, gone in and out of so many jobs, and my last job (which lasted 3 years) was completely sedentary, I couldn't even get up to have lunch! Even when I was riding my bike and jogging daily, I was still gaining weight. After meeting my current boyfriend, my weight really skyrocketed (he doesnt have the same healthy diet I normally do)

I'm ready to go back to the track and field athlete I used to be. I've had hip injuries, foot pain, knee pain and calluses in trying to lose weight in 2013. I found that this was mostly due to my weight, but also because I wasn't wearing proper shoes. I started wearing 5-finger Vibrams a few months ago, and I don't have ANY pain EVER! I got a gym membership a month ago, and I just started tracking my foods on this site yesterday.

This seems like such a fantastic community and everyone is so positive. I am inspired by everyones positive attitudes and successes.

Are there any other athletes out there that have let themselves get out of shape? I'd love to hear what you did to get back to the condition you were before.

I am ready to lose 45lbs!

    You can do it!

I too was a good athlete---a runner--and gained some weight after an illness that didn't allow me to run [or barely walk].

I'm running slowly now, building up. I lift very light weights. I ride the stationary bike daily for 45 minutes. I will never be able to run as fast or far as I once did---but I feel such joy to be moving again, to be in my body feeling that freedom to run [even slowly]. I look forward to racing again in 2014---not for a prize, or a place, but because I can.

    Go girl!
