I find the taste of pea protein is quite hard to mask. It works ( for me ) in savoury meals - think stews, soups etc. but I could not stomach it in yoghurt & c.o. Mind you I use the unflavoured powder from Pulsin, maybe a flavoured one would be easier to hide..

Hi, you can do it. Please feel free to add me as a friend.

My OB actually encouraged me to continue with my fitness program when I was pregnant and I am glad I did. I had NO back pain, NO hip pain and almost no problems with water retention. I biked to work every day and did strength training and / or yoga in the evening ( DVDs by Tracey Mallet and Erin O'Brien ). As far as I know…

Thanks for your suggestions. I think I could try a routine similar to indianarose2, it would fit my schedule.

Before I got pregnant with my DD my cycles were totally off - anywhere between 25 and 45 days! I have Hashi's as well but was misdiagnosed back then and treated for "normal" underfunction ( L-Thyroxine with iodine ). My TSH level was about 2.5. A new endo diagnosed me properly ( based on a scan, not a blood test ) and…

Problems with your thyroid and/or iron deficiency could be possible reasons. To fix any of them you will have to see a GP. And no, hair loss should not be happening - even at the ripe old age of 30 LOL.
-
My endo says that if I wanted to take my meds at bedtime I would have to make sure it is about 3 hours after my last meal.
-
I wake at 5:30, take my L-Thyroxine and go back to sleep. Breakfast is usual around 7. Having a longer break ( I used to wait half an hour before ) made a big difference for me.
-
I live in Germany @lindsey1979 so unfortunately it is not an option. Oh well, I will just wait and see what the doc says ( I have an appointment at the end of May ).
-
I think the reasoning behind "sleep more" was that lack of sleep can lead to inflammation which in turn can hamper the conversion. Not good, but thanks for your input anyway.
-
Taking my L-Thyro makes absolutely no difference for me. Yes I have more energy but no I am not losing weight. Recently I was overmedicated for a couple of weeks before my doc corrected the dosage. I was hyperactive and suffered from anxiety attacks but it made no impact on the scale.
-
Really interesting post @lindsey1979, thanks!

When I had low vitamin levels I was constantly sick - recurring colds or colds lasting two weeks or more. My GP just brushed it off saying that it was probably because I was a tired young mum back then. Fortunately my endo check my Vit. D. I started supplementing and the change was pretty dramatic - within a couple of…

I have my alarm clock set to 5:30. I open one eye :-), take my pill ( L-Thyroxine ) and go back to sleep. Breakfast is about 7:30. I feel way better now than I did when I waited just 30 minutes before eating. I take my supplements ( iron, Vit B, Zinc, Vit D ) with my lunch or dinner.

@MacCroc - what is your budget? Polar M400 is an activity tracker with GPS. You would need a HR strap though.
-
Thanks @heybales for your tips. Fitbit and Polar agree on the calories if I manually enter the HR-based calorie estimates for bike riding from Polar in Fitbit. They disagree on the step count because Polar "converts" the kilometers on the bike in steps as well. I have been using Polar for my intervals / yoga as it gives me…

Thanks! I'll try upping my calories slowly - I do not think I have enough courage to do a full reset!

Hi, I just hit the big 4-0. iMom, iPartner, iWork, iBike, iExercise.. Please feel free to add me.

In Germany, if you have a non-autoimmune hypothyroidism you are treated with synthetic thyroid hormones + iodine, if you have Hashi's - just the thyroid hormones. You are also sometimes told to limit your intake of foods containing iodine.
-
Fantastic posts @kcvance and @lindsey1979, thank you so much.

Maybe I will try talking to my Endo again. I have to be careful though not to make her feel that I am questioning her expertise because she is way better than the other two endos I had had so far. She takes FT3 and FT4 into consideration, not only TSH. She is willing to test after every dosage change - well she is willing…

I'm one of the unfortunate ones.. I had been medicated for over three years with pills containing iodine before a new endo properly "read" a scan. My current endo says that you could imagine it as a downward-slopping sinusoid - you may get ups and downs but ultimately your thyroid is going to be destroyed. It is so…

Interesting that you mention it @lindsey1979 - my dosage was increased back in January I think ( to 125 mcg ) and then about two weeks ago I was retested and the doctor told me to take 125 and 120 on alternative days as my TSH was too low. Maybe my body is adjusting to this change?
-
I agree with @lindsey1979 - I feel much better when I supplement Vit. D & iron. Oh and I eat 1 brasil nut a day for selenium ( supplements are way too expensive ). Unfortunately no doctor here is willing to check my DHEA and cortisol levels :-(
-
Thank you so much for your kind words. I have an appointment on Friday, I hope that my GP is going to show some understanding and will be willing to help. Maybe my Vit. D levels are very low again? I hope it is something that can be treated without meds, some therapy would be very welcome by me.

"Why do you think they check TPO and Tg antibodies and they're text book markers for Hashimotos? What do you think antibodies do?" You can have Hashi and do not have those markers elevated. I was diagnosed based on a scan.
-
I could not agree more. It is not only about how much you eat, but also what you eat.
-
Thanks everyone. I am going to see whether I can find a guided meditation that suits me - maybe it will help my brain shut up for a moment :-) A gratitude journal is a great idea as well - I am often just too concentrated on the negative things that happen in my life.

Thanks for the links. I've seen Mary's article before - I would like to know whether the amount of calories the equation gives me is netto or brutto, i.e. whether I should eat my exercise calories back.
