I'm 45 and like the fact that I stopped obsessing about my looks. I still exercise and try to eat healthy but I do not let the scale readings define my days. What I do not like are the signs of wear and tear that I am experiencing - vericose veins, a couple of gray hairs, a general feeling that I am not as fit as I used to…

You have mentioned that your Vit D levels were checked - were they within recommended range? Taking Vit D regularly ( 1000 - 2000 iU depending on the season ) helped me with persistent colds.

Oh I feel for you! I live in Germany when admittedly you get a full thyroid panel when tested but the standard treatment is synthetic t4 only. The supplements you mentioned are quite important and made a lot of difference for me ( especially Vit.D ). My doc seems to think that brasilian nuts are not a reliable source of…

Hi there! I know it is no consolation but I know what you are talking about. I have Hashimoto's ( underactive thyroid ) so I have to work extra hard not to gain weight. At the moment I am yo-yo-ing between 65 and 67 kg, with no improvement in sight, but I try not to give up.
-
Add me! I have two girls aged 6 and 8 months. And thyroid issues. I would like to loose about 10 lbs thru exercise and moderate diet.

Similar story here to enterdanger - no fatigue with my first. With the second I was tired between weeks 12 and 24. It has been better for the last 3-4 weeks, probably because my thyroid meds dosage was bumped up ( I'm hypo ). Do have your iron levels checked though if your fatigue seems more than average.

My experience is not typical as I have an underactive thyroid ( Hashimoto's ). In my first pregnancy I ate 1600-1800 kcal, exercised 3-4 times per week doing Nordic Walking and pregnancy DVDs. I gained about 12 kg net ( started at 63kg, went down to 60,5kg in the first trimester and then up to 75kg at the end ). My DD was…

You almost got me there.. Till I read the "I also cut my carbs in half" bit. How much less calories are you eating daily then?

Hi, sorry for a late reply. Please feel free to add me as a friend. I'm hypo with Hashi as well ( since at least 2009, but I had been symptomatic way earlier ), swing between your macros and 40% C, 30% P, 30% F depending on how intense my cravings are. I try to limit grains but have not eradicated them from my diet. I…

I have Hashi's. I had heart palpitations and panic attacks when I was overmedicated.

How do you feel? I would be a zombie with such a high TSH value ( my endo likes to keep me < 1, it recently shot to 3.5 and I am really struggling, even after having my dosage increased almost two weeks ago ). Could you ask for a referral to an endocrinologist? Your antibodies are elevated and your TSH is high, it looks…
-
Are your non-thyroid drugs known to interact with thyroid medication? Maybe it would be worth checking, it could be a good argument for getting a dosage increase. And what was your TSH level? Different doctors use different reference ranges.
-
As far as I know, your dosage should rather be adjusted up than down in the course of your pregnancy, but I am not a medical professional.
-
Fantastic news. Congratulations! So jealous :-). Please make sure that you have frequent checkups - your dosage may need to be adjusted. I had been pregnant before I was diagnosed with Hashi so back then I was taking my l-thyroxine combined with iodine anyway, but I was told that should I get pregnant again I would be…

As far as I know being hypothyroid can manifest by your hair getting dry and coarse.

Thank you so much for your post, @ButterflyBites. I feel just like you do sometimes, in fact I have given up on several Facebook pages / forums because I had the feeling that they were frustrating or scaring me more than they were helping.

I take about 2000IU vit D, selenium 100mcg, vit B complex with zinc and 100% RDA of iron daily. When not on holidays I have a one espresso a day caffeine habit. I think supplementing with iron makes the biggest difference for me. As to my diet I am slowly moving towards eating more protein and clean fats in my diet.…

Have you had your Vit D levels checked recently? I had a bad spout of colds after my daughter was born but my GP dismissed it as "normal after having a baby". A blood test revealed a severe deficiency. I take a supplement now and the length and severity of colds seems to be back to normal.
-
Just a short info - you can have Hashimoto's without having elevated antibodies. I was diagnosed based on scans.
-
I can only agree with @editorgrrl - please take your meds, please talk to your endo. Now from my own experience - my DD was conceived when I had extremely irregular periods ( anything between 40-60 days ). I was treated with levothyroxine with jodine, TSH was kept between 2 and 3,5. After my pregnancy my diagnosis was…

I used to weigh-in every day, but I got to the point where the number I saw on the scale dictated my mood for the day. Now I do it once a week or so. As to the body fat measuring scales. Good luck with yours, mine ( a high-end pricey Tanita body fat monitor ) is more or less useless. The results vary widely depending on…

Theoretically if you are on a correct dose of medicine your bmr should be just like any healthy person's. But still many thyroid patients need more time / effort to lose weight. Mary Shomon, a thyroid patient advocate and an author of several books on the subject claims, based on her experience, that you should deduct…

For me reduction of medication = weight gain. Is the 1350 kcal your net goal? How much do you exercise? Maybe you could get a bit of wiggle room there?
-
@dramaqueen45 - my current endo considers TSH of 2 to be "upper end" and likes keeping me < 1. I'm 40 yo, 5'7''.
-
Wait a second. So you are supposed to be on Armour but you tend not to take it? Do I understand you correctly? As to your question - how do you feel? How do you manage to survive with such a high TSH value? Mine was never higher than 4 and when it was I was feeling really bad - hair falling out, gaining weight, being…

"he says I have an unreasonable expectation of how well I should feel at my age". Nice. I was told that "low T3 must be my natural level that my body gravitates to" :-) True gems of wisdom!
-
@Fuzzipeg - basically wait and see, check every 6 months.
-
10000 IU is really a lot - I was recommended to take 2000 IU by an orthopedist, my GP suggested 1000 IU.
-
First of all, congratulations on giving up smoking! If you managed to do it, you can lose weight as well. What are your major obstacles?
-
@Vickiti - thank you for the info, I seem to have a similar problem - no matter how much iron supplement I take ( and we are talking 50-100 mcg / day ), my levels are always close to being anemic. I'll ask my doctor about it.
