Thank you all for your input. I'll bring up the Cytomel when I speak to my endo next time. I have no chances to get a prescription for natural thyroid meds I think as they are not considered "accurate" and "safe" enough in Germany.

Yes please! Oh thanks for that. I thought I was the only one struggling like that! I have a vegan friend with Hashi's whose levels are in the upper range. I supplement B vitamins, zinc and vit D ( I was deficient last year ). The last results were OK.

So true. Greek yoghurt has more protein than a normal one but unfortunately where I live I can't buy a low fat version anymore :-(
-
I struggle with it as well. I usually manage to get 25-30% of calories in my diet from protein. I do not really enjoy eating meat ( i.e. can't force myself to have more than one portion a day ) so I use whey protein powder and yogurt.

I've experienced something like that ( extreme fatigue, pains and aches ) a month ago. Unfortunately, my doctor(s) treat based on blood test levels. Mine are within norm, so nothing gets done - unless my TSH goes over 3.5. My FT3 is always low, FT4 somewhere in the middle of the reference values.

Thanks for the info. I may ask my GP about it, as she is more open towards alternative medicine.

Hearing something like that makes you wonder whether you should laugh or cry. Would your colleague also take hair loss, waves of overwhelming fatigue, aches and panes and last but not least brain fog??? Congratulation on your weight loss btw. :-)

What is a leptin diet? I'm curious...

Watch out, as you can have Hashi and no / very little antibodies in your blood. I was diagnosed based on an ultrasound only.

I'm glad that someone started this thread.. I have Hashi's ( diagnosed hypo in 2009, Hashi in 2012 ) and struggling to maintain ( I would like to lose about 10 lbs ). I almost never get ravenously hungry - I only get cravings for certain foods. What happens to me though is that sometimes I feel no hunger at all but I am…

I generally get tested twice a year by my endo - which means TSH, T3, T4 and lots of other values. When I feel really bad I go to my GP and literally beg for a test - if I am lucky, I get TSH, T3, T4, if I am not - just TSH. I think it is important to get tested after each dosage change and ideally if you make a big change…

I use whey protein powder ( mix it in my milk or yoghurt ).

Freshly baked bread ( I live in Germany so the temptation is ginormous ), peanut and other nut butters, sometimes chocolate.

What a wonderful, supportive and informative answer. Cudos.

Just asking, you do not have to attack me straight away. You do not know my diet history or my medical conditions. Good for you that "keeping it simple" works for you, it doesn't for me. Not everyone is the same and one way of eating may not work for someone else.

1. what other posters said - check your iron, vitamin B and vitamin D levels. 2. if they are normal, ask to have your TSH checked, it could be your thyroid underperforming

I have Hashimoto's and I'm on 100mcg L-Thyroxine. I use Fitbit + HRM to estimate my burns, average more or less 500 kcal deficit daily ( eat about 1800-1900 kcal, burn 2300+ ) and I am just about maintaining 68 kg ( I'm 170 cm tall - 5 ft 7 ). I have tried almost everything in the past - fasts, Cambridge diet ( 400 kcal /…

I bought a Polar Loop yesterday and I have to say so far I am not impressed. It is 1 p.m. and the web account still hasn't "noticed" that it is a new day ( the Polar app only started showing the 23rd about 8 a.m. ). I am based in Europe so maybe they have some time zone problems. Also when I use my HRM with the Polar Beat…

Do you find the number of steps it gives you realistic? I have a Fitbit as well and so far today the difference is massive - Fitbit 4300 steps, Loop more than 8000!!!

Fantastic transformation.

Check out Tracey Mallet's postpartum DVDs.

Jessica Smith. Love her workouts.

It was discovered ( by accident ) in spring that I was severely Vit D deficient, so I'm on a daily 1000 UI pill. I struggle constantly with my iron levels, always hovering in the lower end of the "normal" range. I also take Vit. B complex and Zinc. My doctor says I'm "fine" btw. Lol.

Anything from Erin O'Brien, Jessica Smith and recently Kelly Coffey-Meyer from her 30 minutes to fitness series.

4 to 6 hours? Interesting... Since my dosage has been rised to 100 mcg I have been experiencing what I call my "heat rush" about half an hour after I take my pill. I feel really warm and sweat more than usual.
-
Fantastic. You look so much healthier & younger!

Basically this. Usually the plain bagged green tea can survive temperatures up to 90 degrees, but there are some sorts that you have to prepare with water cooled down to 70 degrees and you cannot let it brew for longer than a minute, otherwise it will get bitter.
-
I can't offer any real advice as I'm in the same boat as you are - doing everything right and slowly gaining weight ( 20 lbs in the last 2 years ). I'm on synthetic thyroxine ( I live in Germany where no doctor wants to prescribe you natural thyroid hormones ). Still, I know people here on mfp who have Hashi's and manage…

From what I have heard from my doctors if you have the autoimmune form of the disease it never gets better. Your dosage gets increased till your thyroid stops working altogether. Someone I know who had thyroid cancer / thyroid removal is on 200mcg now, but I assume the dosage will be different depending on your age /…

Awesome job. I hope what I am about to write is not going to sound terrible but sometimes I see a person and I just can't stop imagining how she/he would look like without the second chin, the extra "padding" she/he is carrying around. Now I know what sort of a transformation it can be. You look great and happy.
