  • Possibly just because birth control helps regulate the hormone levels/acne, so that particular doctor uses bc as a first line of defense, then spironlactone.
  • Congratulations! It must feel good to be starting. I took mine at night and didn't have any problems with it at all. I was crampy throughout the cycle, but it wasn't a big deal. Are you doing ultrasounds to check for developed follicles? They really should give us a flow chart of what to do, but they never do. Maybe I'll…
  • PCOS is poorly understood, unfortunately. Diagnosis criteria is usually polycystic ovaries (multiple cysts on your ovaries resembling a string of pearls), high testosterone, and annovulation. If you don't ovulate, you don't get periods. Although PCOS is associated with diabetes and obesity, it's not a prerequisite or a…
  • Had my hcg tested again this morning. 2 weeks ago it was in the 570s, so hoping it has dropped significantly in that time. Out of curiosity, I took a hpt on Thursday and it was still (faintly) positive :/ . Other than waiting on AF, I'm trying to decide if I should continue treatment with my obgyn or go to the reproductive…
  • Sorry you are having that experience. My doctor didn't make me wait an entire year before giving me clomid. It was obvious I wasn't ovulating. Good for you for taking charge of your body so you are at your best when you ARE ready to conceive. Are you taking prenatals? Keep up the good work!
  • Great progress on your weight loss goals! I'm sorry your clomid treatment hasn't been successful yet. Have they changed the dosage? Some ladies on here say femara works better for them. I'm slowly getting better. After conceiving on clomid in February, we lost the baby in April. My last lab worked showed that in a week my…
  • I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Typically, blood work is drawn and you may get an ultrasound of your ovaries before you can be officially diagnosed with PCOS. You should also have your insulin resistance checked (apparently BMI doesn't matter in this regard). Also, going more than 3 months without a period should…
  • It's the "gift" that just keeps giving. I came off the pill, eager to start a family. Then came the resurgence of acne and hair loss (from high testosterone). I was diagnosed with PCOS, and got pregnant on the first round of clomid. Unfortunately, the baby didn't make it. At 9 weeks there was no heartbeat. I'm still…
  • Thanks for the update. Even that is encouraging! The clomid served it's purpose and made you ovulate. Woo hoo! Did they change your dosage for this time around? Good luck!

  • Your doctor may have made those recommendations based on your specific combination of issues. He/she may want to not mess with your hormone levels? IUDs are very effective and easy to remove if you are interested in procreating, but it is a personal choice. I would recommend asking for clarification why he/she doesn't want…
  • I was reading this again, and your 14 days would be Sunday-ish (the 14th) . You could probably test this weekend! Best of luck!

  • That sounds just like me after coming off of the pill! It was frustrating because I was supposed to get blood drawn on the 3rd day of my period, and kept waiting....and waiting....and waiting. ah-ha-hand waiting. My doctor says that you should have one at least every 90 days for health reasons (lowers your risk of some…
  • If you ovulated, you should get a period about 14 days later. Are they not monitoring you to see the number and size of eggs that you are producing? Also, you may ask about IUI if your husband has a low sperm count. They put the sperm straight into your uterus to get it as close to the egg as possible. Surely your doctor,…

  • I cramped pretty often also, but I ended up pregnant. Good luck!
  • A friend of ours is a urologist who specializes in male infertility. He says that they can almost always get SOME sperm out with a procedure. I'm no expert, but it seems like IVF may be the best option for this combination of complications. Good luck!
  • Thanks Jbirkett7! We WERE successful! I'm currently 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I have my first appointment right at 8 weeks. We are so excited!
  • I started taking bc pills at age 20 and stopped at 28. I had slight irregularities with my cycle when I started (and as far as my mom is concerned...is the only reason I started taken them). When I came off of them to start TTC, my underlying high testosterone reared it's ugly head and I had hair loss and extreme acne. Not…
  • Thanks! I'm in the care of my ob/gyn, who was the same doctor who diagnosed the PCOS to begin with. I asked her face to face during the clomid treatment if I would need any special monitoring or anything if I did get pregnant and she said no. I'm not sure if that was based on my baseline blood work (maybe I don't have a…
  • I'm in the same boat. 5 weeks today, actually. My symptoms have been some bloating (but not too much), insomnia, congestion (could be unrelated), and *extreme* breast tenderness. Wearing a sports bra helps. I also have cramping off and on, but nothing too painful. Apparently all of these things are normal. I don't have an…
  • Good luck! I hope you have regular cycles when you come off the pill. When I stopped, I didn't know anything about PCOS (or that I had it). I had one regularish period about 30 days after stopping the pill and then the cycles kept getting progressively longer (up to 60 something days). I also had some hair fall out and a…
  • Welcome aboard and best of luck!
  • I took birth control and spironlactone together for a couple of years. My skin was beautiful! Since I didn't even know what PCOS was at this point, i can't really make any comparisons. I also think that combo may have helped with unwanted hair, but it's hard to say for sure. So many confounding factors!
  • That's horrible! Would Planned Parenthood or a similar women's clinic with a sliding pay scale be able to help you? Is the constant bleeding PCOS? For most of us it is the total absence of periods. Regardless, I hope you get some relief and soon! Keep us posted!
  • I've just been seeing my gynecologist. I'm willing to do a few rounds of clomid with her before transferring to the reproductive endocrinologist. The trigger shot is supposed to ensure that you ovulate. I went in on Day 14, and again on Day 16 (all at $124 an ultrasound). On CD 16 I had one mature follicle (18mm by 19mm),…
  • If you google PCOS it matches almost all of those symptoms. It seems like you have high testosterone (acne, hair where you don't want it), and taking the birth control pill can help with that if you aren't trying to conceive. Many women with PCOS also take metformin, which is a drug normally associated with type 2…
  • I agree with these ladies, especially getting some physical activity for 30 minutes a day. Just take a stroll around the park or your neighborhood. It's a great way to relieve stress, as well. I was about to go for my daily walk in just a few minutes.
  • I wouldn't describe green tea as being very high in caffeine. Check out this link http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/caffeine/AN01211 (or, if you don't trust websites posted to internet forums, just google "caffeine levels" and click the mayo clinic link). Green tea could be an excellent substitution for coffee. Pregnant…
  • I can never do the BBT either! I always wake up before the alarm or have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. There is zero chance I can get an accurate reading after 4 hours of sound sleep. What's a girl to do?
  • I wasn't diagnosed until earlier this year (at age 28). There were some hints along the way (slightly irregular periods and acne) before I started the pill at age 20. I came off of the pill in May so we could start a family and then the periods were getting fewer and farther between. I have it all: polycystic ovaries,…
