  • Starting up again I'm taking vitamins and eating an apple and drinking 8oz of low fat milk every day, sometimes a banana. Lots of protein in my two daily meals and, because I love olives, they are standing in for chips and bread. I'm 6' 4" and 338 pounds; having no trouble this first week staying under 1,800 daily calories.
  • 1.No, the first day I got a little hungry before the single meal and just before bed. The morning hunger hasn't recurred and I moved the single 600 calorie meal back from noon to 1PM, which seemed to prevent bedtime hunger. I may be unusually adaptable as far as not feeling hunger but I understand that most people don't…
  • I'm sure that will work very well for you when you are my age. I do stop eating at 6PM.
  • By "bit of a fad" I mean that bunch of books have come out in the last few years with competing methods. It's getting promoted. It looks like we are of similar vintage. I graduated high school in 1973.
  • You have both asked and answered the question. I'm enjoying life more already compared to the anxiety of overeating or straining my willpower. For me it is easy, healthy and it is working. What's not to like? Obviously your experience may differ.
  • The only problem I had was getting hungry at bedtime so I pushed my "fasting" day meal back an hour. It's seamless to others. I can eat either lunch or dinner out with friends on a fasting day, but of course have to eat light, so no one else would even know unless I told them. In fact I ate out on my first fast day, had a…
  • Nice to hear of your success Elen1a. Not having to give up foods was an incentive as was not logging. I've learned enough from food logging to know what I can eat for my 600 calorie meal on "fast" days. My wife made a pie yesterday and I had a piece. I look forward to having a piece tomorrow. When I reach goal I'll…
  • I've changed the title. If you Google "intermittent fasting" most of the hits are about fasting a certain number of days per week. The intermittent fasting group on this site in contrast seems to be all about fasting a certain number of hours each day, usually combined with heavy weight training.
  • Thanks. I'm reading through the IF sub-forum posts and so far they are all about restricting the hours you eat each day. I'm doing that as well since the "fast" day meal is in the afternoon and I try to stay within 6AM to 6PM on eating days. Supposedly creating gaps each day during which there is no food powering your body…
  • I take half of the lowest dose of Triamterene every day for Meniere's Disease. Even this very low dose has resulted in a huge increase in muscle cramps after activity. I certainly wouldn't take a diuretic if I didn't have to.
  • Hello, I have Meniere's Disease and so have to watch my salt; so I was glad to see salt intake pop up in the daily totals. In general lowering salt intake is good but one big exception is when sweating due to intense exercise. When engaged in exercise you need more salt. I'm doing a 237 mile bike ride next month and my…
  • 6' 4" and I live in Sequim, WA, population 5600. Plus the three friends I started with two months ago seem to have dropped out so I need some new friends. I expect to losing 100 pounds over the entire year and loggin food and exercise for the rest of my life.
  • I spent all morning reading contradictory articles, none of which addressed my particular issues. My blood work is fine. My blood pressure is low, my blood sugar is low, nothing of concern. I'm retired at 57 due to disability. I'm 6' 4" and when I've been down to 280 I've been one of the strongest riders in a group that…
  • I think you overstate the case. Athletes have minimal amounts of fat as an energy reserve, most of the calories they consume are carbohydrates that are burned in the same day. The site generated food requirements seem to indicate that calories expended in exercise must be replaced. Why?
  • Protein shakes might be the best bet. I got to over 1000 calories today by drinking 24 oz of milk. It seemed to me that I should get up to my -2 pounds per week calorie deficit level but other than getting more protein into that 1900 calories, I shouldn't need to consume more calories because I am exercising. I won't eat…
  • No, I'm losing about 5 pounds a week as expected. The questions were about nutrition.
