  • It happens! Figure out your triggers and find something else to do to deal with them. Emotional eating, especially when you're mad at yourself for eating... is never good. And fasting is never the answer to a binge. If you overate because you were stressed out or upset, sad, mad, happy... whatever!... you need to create a…
  • Ditto, definitely go with trying a new medication. Sometimes it can take months or years to find the right medication or combination of medications to help with your depression. Vitamin D can *sometimes* help *some people* with SAD (seasonal affective disorder) but it doesn't do anything for real depression. Been there.
  • They won't even know you did it. Select that handful of people that really do support you and that you enjoy communicating with, and delete the rest.
  • Ditto here - my husband and I both gag with it. Texture, flavor... IMO it has nothing going for it.
  • It's worth it to invest in a good HRM. (love my Polar FT7) Also, the trackers on machines aren't all that accurate either. A stationary bike comes close to the estimate because it's hard to use poor form, etc. Whereas an elliptical or treadmill can be way off as they cannot evaluate form, stride, etc.
  • A long plateau means you need to reevaluate and kick things up a notch. But 2 wks is nothing - and you are seeing progress in your measurements. I still get on the scale, but I also do measurements because I'm losing inches, but hardly anything on the scale. This is a slow and steady process, patience is key.
  • You could add peanut butter (if you like it) to any of your snacks, that adds up fast and is great for energy.
  • If you're serious about it, then educate yourself about what your body NEEDS. 1200 calories a day probably isn't even in the ballpark to being enough for you. Food is fuel - and when you're exercising, you need more of it. Also, you need to learn an entirely new lifestyle and relationship with food during and after your…
  • I'm all for working things out, but he's obviously guilty about something and is pushing his guilt on you. Break up with him. If he can't accept your uncontrollable issues... yeah, just step up and send him packing. And don't for one moment think: But... I'll be all alone! But... no one else will ever love me! But... I'll…
  • LOVE your goal, so cute!! I'm looking forward to the new wardrobe and travel. :)
  • Congrats on your loss so far! :) I work closely with a gal who struggles with her weight, so she is more aware and has noticed that my clothes are a bit looser and my face is thinning out - and that's with only 10 pounds lost. I lost 30 pounds a few years ago and most people didn't say anything until about 25 pounds lost.…
  • I'm a baker and I try to make all my recipes healthier whenever possible. But butter creates a better quality item and I never substitute butter. You need SOME fats in your diet, and quality butter is more natural than margarines - butter comes straight from milk, which I've heard comes from cows, whereas margarines are...…
  • Before sleep study - 4 and I was a zombie, I'd fall asleep at the wheel driving home from work!! After sleep study with a CPAP - a solid 7-8. Getting a good night's sleep is like a drug. And I was relieved to know that my severe sleep apnea had nothing to do with my weight, even though it can help in the weight loss…
  • I you don't drink enough water that can cause water retention. And sometimes with working out, your weight won't change for awhile even though you're losing. Keep track of your measurements and you'll probably see progress there. I'm not a heavy water drinker, but I find that I feel so much better, especially when I work…
  • We're having just a couple of our absolute favorites, things we only have once a year - homemade buffalo wings and hoagies. Normally we eat a LOT more, so it's still a huge improvement from the past. I have a huge deficit if you add up the week's total, so it shouldn't make much difference.
  • I think so much of pickiness is mental attitude. My husband was super picky when he was growing up, but I'm a damn good cook and I wasn't about to make him a separate meal, so after a year he was trying different things. Even his mom was amazed. Now he travels all over the world and is trying new cuisine all the time. But…
  • I used to do this too. And I do agree that food is an important element that people have used to come together and celebrate for many years. Unfortunately, we have to teach ourselves that it is not a reward. Food is fuel. (Though some of it is pretty awesome!) Find something else that you enjoy to 'celebrate' or reward…
  • And that's why you'll succeed!
  • Upright all the way - mine works great and it's as small as a spin bike. I just bought a new padded seat which is VERY comfy. They also make seats without the... well, the middle part that can irritate your lady parts. My SIL has that one and, while it took a little while to get used to, it was really comfy.
  • What she said. If you're in your first few weeks of heavy workouts/lifting, you can develop an overuse injury. Drink plenty of water, do plenty of stretching, and take a day off from lifting and do something lighter.
  • There's a huge difference between depression and the mid-winter blues. Vitamin D is usually a big help with the later. If it's depression, talk to your doctor. I find when I'm down and don't want to exercise, that's when I NEED to exercise. I always feel better after even a short workout. Maybe you can find an activity…
  • This is great - I was just about to post to ask for recommendations, I want to do cardio without getting my teeth knocked out. ;)
  • For me, it's the calorie tracker and being accountable to myself. I've only ever lost weight when counting calories. I'm an emotional/boredom overeater (I had to go to counseling to help deal with that issue) and MFP has helped me to say no to many needless snacks and to be aware of how much and what I am eating. It has…
  • I enjoy Ellen Barrett - she has two older DVDs from SELF magazine that are great for hitting a great cardio range with a little bit of toning built in also. I also loved the challenge of the Crunch! gym DVDs, they can be pretty intense. Zumba and Oula people seem to really enjoy too. They aren't my cup of tea, but I can…
  • I wholeheartedly agree with you!! The confidence comes with the practice. And, my tastiest meals have been for those that I love. I also threw out many a meal when I was first married. I only recently learned to cook with fresh veggies and, at first, they were overcooked and ick. But now... I LOVE using and experimenting…
  • Right now, the snow shovel. Haha! But normally the stationary bike & Netflix - perfect for zoning out and burning calories. Plyometrics are far more effective than weights.
