can you get her an appointment with an occupational therapist? i just finished my masters in ot and we did a lot of coursework on movement disorders including neurological ones like parkinsons. an ot would definitely encourage a healthy lifestyle and be able to work with her on figuring out some exercises that would not…

i agree! it's hard not to be passionate about a strategy that we've found to work for us - that passion and belief that it's right is part of what makes it successful, but it's really nice to read threads where people can share their own experiences, acknowledge that it might not work for others and move on. there is so…

nope - that's the minimum though. it goes up from there depending on the patients age, weight and the level of coma the are currently at. (there are technically 8 levels of coma and each gets more active so more calories...)

they are fed that to maintain their weight while completely inactive other than our therapy sessions. meaning that caloric intake is merely to sustain their vital organ functioning and the passive motion we work them through in session. my point is that those of us that are not in comas need that plus more to feed our…

i'm doing a six month internship as a part of my masters program in occupational therapy and am working on a traumatic brain injury unit at a rehab hospital right now. my patients in coma levels I-IV get fed 1400 calories/day at a minimum. not one patient on the unit is fed less than that. i fully respect that eating 1200…

i think you're just looking at things differently than a lot of us. i don't consider anything a good or bad food. if it fits in my macros, i can eat it. i'm not cheating at anything, i'm following the guidelines i've set for myself and seeing consistent, measurable success. i'm accomplishing my goals so it's obviously not…

ummm....i eat 1775/day and eat pizza every single friday. 2 slices. and most weeks i eat another slice for lunch at least once, maybe twice. i have absolutely no issues fitting it into my calories or macros. i don't consider myself as having "very very good willpower/portion control" either. sooooo what you're saying…

omg i have so much respect for you ladies that can do her videos - i consider myself a pretty coordinated person, have taken all sorts of cardio classes, danced and played tons of sports as a kid but i could not get a grip on her choreography for the life of me!! i ended up hopping and jumping around my living room feeling…

i agree with the other posters about finding a different medical/mental health professional that is more supportive. we all deserve that and it sounds like you aren't being heard by your doctor or getting the results you want.

you get fat.

i definitely do and i do exactly what you said - tell myself i can do it and that it's all in my head that i want to stop. i've also learned to accept that i'm not a morning workout person (i'm not much of a morning anything person actually!) so i exercise in the evening and don't worry about it. and i always figure that…

i upped mine from 1200 to 1775 and have lost weight and inches. i'm not starving all the time anymore and i have enough energy to take five hot power yoga classes a week which wasn't happening at 1200 calories/day.
-
i got my butt outta bed and took an early morning hot yoga class AND wore spandex shorts to it!

it's okay to get frustrated and discouraged. that's a part of the process. it's what you do with those feelings that define your journey. you can go back to your old ways, eat back those 17lbs you've lost or you can dig deep within yourself, commit yourself to longterm change and continue on your path to success. there…

earlier this year one of my internships as part of my masters program to become an occupational therapist was at a rehab hospital. most of the patients i dealt with were for orthopedic rehab post knee or hip replacement and many of them were obese. the obese patients had additional mobility issues and not only did i have…

oh man. i do NOT miss the drama of first loves. the going over it and over in your head and trying to understand they whys...not fun! cry and be sad for a few days. wallow and be miserable. and then pick yourself up and live your life again with all the lessons you've learned from your first relationship. apply those to…

one of my best friends has had constipation problems since we were in middle school (i'm 34 now) and is finally getting some relief from working with a homeopath. might be worth a consultation with one! good luck.

i love chia seeds! my husband and i eat them all the time. throw a tablespoon into greek yogurt. or into a stir fry. in cereal, on salads....anything. and yes, the bathroom side effects are the best part!
