  • a) What everyone else has said about your career and interviews-- but you knew that. I'm fortunate to work in an engineering office where quite a few of us are tattooed. My tats are grand, and each of them is special, blah blah blah, I'd like to get sleeves designed around my two shoulder tattoos when I can afford it. b)…
  • Awesome job! Running is my favorite NSV, every time I look back and realize 'two months ago I never could have done this.' Keep it up!
  • 1200 is sort of hilarious as a magic number. It's like people think it doesn't matter if they're 5' even or 6'2, 1.2K will magically expand or contract for you. If you are tiny 1200 may be just what the doctor ordered. If you are tall it probably isn't. You might as well ask for 'looking for success stories of women who…
  • Fantastic job! You look happy, which is the most important part.
  • Actually, a massive cheat day (I got burger king to deal with some depression) that kicked me 900 cal over my limit actually helped jump start a new week at a slightly lower calorie count. I felt satisfied and not trapped even as I was eating a few hundred less than I used to for the next few weeks. I'd plateaued at 231 ,…
  • Some mornings I'm starving, and it's always hard to say no to Biscuits and Gravy day at work. Other days I'm good on a coffee until lunch time... just a coin toss every day.
  • Seconding the Monster Rehab-- I love that stuff. (1.5 times the caffein of the equivalent amount of black coffee, though, so watch out) Unsweetened tea. I use a bunch of frou-frou herbal blends, steep them up, dump them over ice, life is good.
  • Sabra - Roasted Garlic Hummus - I've been on a months long hummus crave and this is my go-to condiment AND snack. I use it in place of mayo and occasionally just eat it by the spoonful Ppc - Chicken Pad Thai - yeah, I've been eating out a skosh too much, and leftovers just increase the 'use'. Nabisco - Triscuit - Roasted…
  • 6'1, shooting for 180-- or 190 if I can get the muscle mass on instead of fat. I'd be cool with 22-25% body fat or so. My lowest was 180 back when I worked a more physical job, and I was a size 12-- but honestly I felt a bit scrawny, I really need some meat around the arms.
  • We should really all get sponsored by Zen Labs at this point for pushing their app so hard...
  • I'm merrily obese, hadn't run since college rugby, endurance of a mayfly and C25K started off lightly enough for me to handle. As to 'how', I've seen a lot of reccomendations about stride, but I just do what comes naturally and seems sustainable. Unless you're hurting yourself or aching after a light run you probably…
  • Only squash I can really stomach. Needs salt, and it works better standing in for rice noodles or vermicelli than it does for spaghetti-- try it to bulk out a stirfry?
  • Story of my life. Having food around makes me want to eat. Do you like hummus? It's not the healthiest thing in and of itself, but at least it's got some protein, and enough sodium to give you that 'junk food' kick. It might be a decent gateway drug to healthier stressfoods.
  • This! It's basically the principle behind calorie cycling, which worked fine for me once upon a time (due to some lifestyle changes, it's not so feasible anymore). Shoot for a nice consistent average and as long as you're feeling healthy and satisfied you're good to go.
  • I'm told we pronounce 'Z' wrong. Often. But with love.
  • Scales are pretty grand for anything that signigicantly changes volume when cooking, or after cooling. And trying to standardize a volumetric cup of, say, sliced mushrooms? Sort of a trial. I don't always have one to use, but I like to pop things on the salad scale at my cafeteria to double-check portion sizes against the…
  • I count anything with minimal additives-- in my case, that's usually unsweetened tea or a packet of crystal lite-- as water. I'd count zero-cal vitawater as water, too, since that's basically all it is (slightly sweetend water with some negligible soluble vitamins, still mostly water). Anything with so much of a nutrient…
  • Morticiamom is always yelling at me about adding more veggies and complex carbs to my diet even though I eat a lot of fruit, but she's right. Fruit's fantastic for you but you also have to add something to your diet that's going to provide slow, consistent energy. As for the protein, I'm not sure what you like to eat, but…
  • Your average great ape or chimp eats nearly nothing but 'negative calorie foods' on the daily-- heads of lettuce, carrots, apples, etc. Their digestive systems are a lot like ours, their teeth are a lot like ours, and somehow they manage to be pretty massive beasties. Log your lettuce.
