  • I've had PF on and off over the years . One time resulting in an urgent care trip as the pain was so bad I couldn't sleep. 10 weeks ago, I thought I had a stress fracture as the pain was so different. I took 8 weeks off and then went to the doctor(the wait was due to insurance). He diagnosed it as PF and had me tape it and…
  • I didn't know for sure what it was. It is plantar fasciitis. The dr has me taping my foot and slowly easing back into running. Glad I'm not the only one to confuse the two issues. So far so good.
  • I did the navy ten nautical miler as well. It was a great race and my first time running it. The medal is awesome!
  • Congrats! I am looking at this race for next year. I live in TN but as far as you can get from Knoxville and still be in TN.
  • I have a 13.1 sticker on my car. My husband insisted I get it as I've gone kinda crazy with running halves. Tomorrow will be my 9th since December 1st:) I'm kinda a private person so I am kinda uneasy about it? I know, I'm weird. I share my obsession/love with running with my family and friends but not so much with my…
  • I used to run about 8 years ago and ran long distances but never ran an organized race. Started only running and my knees started hurting. Gave up running for what I thought was forever:( Fast forward to July of last year. I was in semi good shape due to other exercises(boot camp, spin, strength training, kickboxing) and I…
  • That is me! I use Map My Run to plan my route and figure out which cul--de-sacs to run down or to skip to get my even mileage. Now that I have a GPS watch I will keep running past my house till I reach that even number.
  • I love the 4% Kroger brand. Has great flavor to it. I eat it plain or I love to mix it into some egg whites and 'scramble" it. I used to eat tuna mixed in and this thread reminded me of it. I'm going to try it tomorrow. Nobody in my house like cottage cheese except for me.
  • I don't eat before running unless its for a half. Some say you don't need to eat before a half. I don't feel like experimenting:) This morning, I jumped out of bed, got in my workout gear and ran 3 miles... If I do have time to spare(not cramming it in before work), I do like to have coffee and a piece of fruit but I don't…
  • I love spinning. Unfortunately, most of the classes at my gym are during my work day. Right now, I go to a Saturday morning spin class and a Monday night class.

  • Find something you love. I take classes(all different types) at my gym. I also love to run. I hate treadmills and ellipticals and will run outside in the rain(did that this morning for 10 miles) to avoid them. I don't like videos either but used them for two weeks when I was out of town and away from the gym. Look for…
  • This! In my younger years in my unsuccessful years of trying to lose weight, I would under eat and then binge. If you eat enough so your body isn't physically needing food, its easier to avoid a binge. Of course, there are other reasons to binge...
  • Since running, I've learned the trick of layering up. On the coldest days, I wear an underarmour cold gear long sleeve shirt, a short sleeve tech shirt over it, and then a fleece vest over that(its a similar brand to North Face). I just got a Nike thermal Half Zip Running hoodie.. It has the reflective strips and a pocket…
  • I have one as a snack.. Whey Protein powder, frozen berries, carb master yogurt, ice, and soy milk. Makes a big portion and I like the consistency(very ice cream like). Only problem is that it is winter and I am always freezing after I drink this...
  • I did my first half Dec 1st, followed by one Dec 29th and one January 11th. Yes I'm hooked. I have one in two weeks from now and then at least two in March and two in April.
  • I've noticed it depends on where I am running. It takes a while at one particular location. I thought it was a fluke until it happened the next time...
  • Thanks for asking this question! This same thing happened to me on my long run last weekend. I do wear Underarmour Cold Gear but I think I need to tuck it into my tights. thanks!
  • Way to go! Its that determination that will help you so much along this journey:)
  • I do primal most of the time but not all of the time. This way of eating helps me get enough protein and fats in my diet and not overload on carbs. I do still eat carbs though especially when I have a "treat" meal. For me personally, I do need some carbs to fuel my exercise(running, etc...).
  • If you really dislike the gym, I would get my exercise elsewhere whether outside or inside doing videos. I have exercised outside(running, hiking, walking) and inside(videos mainly off of youtube for free), and the gym. I love the gym but only because I take classes there. I dislike treadmills, ellipticals, and weight…
  • Be sure you are getting enough protein and fats... What I eat to keep me full but with in my calorie range is a lot of veggies and some fruit in addition to my protein/fat sources. For breakfast, I eat eggs whites and cheese with a ton of spinach all cooked together. Sometimes I add a whole egg, sometimes I don't. For…
  • We are neighbors:) I live outside of Memphis(Tipton County) and haven't joined yet. I drive to Memphis for races but have a hard time with the idea of driving for training runs. I should join for the discount and magazine alone.
  • I don't if its an hour of cardio or strength training and I need to do it immediately after I get up. This is the case if I exercise before work. If I'm going to do a long run(8+ miles) or a half marathon race, I do tend to get up with plenty of time to drink coffee, eat something, and use the restroom. I'm not saying you…
  • I do a variety of classes at the Y. My husband joined me from April-August but then quit when work got stressful. For us, its nice to actually "do something together." Since we don't really "compete" in classes, that doesn't come up. He says he will start coming again once he gets over his sinus infection. All that being…
  • I ran 5 miles yesterday and 11 miles today. Thought of her a lot on my runs.
  • Completed the Mississippi Blues half on Saturday. Hills, hills, and more hills, Finished at 2:20. Was such a fun race... Very well planned out and supported.
  • Don't really any advice. Just caution you to make sure you fuel your ride and get enough electrolytes pre/during ride. Several years ago, I was "dieting" and skipped the gatorade and most of the food on a 70 mile ride in the heat. I did drink plenty of water. At the race end right after I got off my bike, I passed out....…
  • I second this the saucony guide pro. I've worn them for three half marathons and training runs in between. I have wide feet and so I went for the men's shoe since the store I bought them at didn't carry women's wide shoes.
  • I just finished my 3rd half! I've done three halves in three states in 6 weeks. That qualifies me for level one half fanatics;) I don't think I'll ever do a full though. I have several halves scheduled in the next 3-4 months.
