  • Popcorn, carrots, celery, pretzels, sliced apples... (maybe with peanut butter)? Veggie trays are always a good idea but other than that I can't really think of anything super easy.
  • .... there is nothing wrong with fruit or dairy. It's a great idea to give up processed sugar, but giving up EVERY sugar in EVERY food is too extreme. You will never be happy living like that! And the benefits, if there even are any, will be superficial at most.
  • I know the feeling you've described, but try to make yourself eat all of it. If you honestly can't manage though, you could try eating some nuts or peanut butter with your porridge to up the calories without taking up a lot of room. Other healthy breakfast options include eggs, toast, yogurt, fruit... the list is endless.
  • I would say the Snickers is the lesser of two evils. Junk food isn't great on a regular basis, but energy is energy.
  • You could try Kashi cereal instead, or mini wheats. If there's a microwave at your workplace you could also try zapping some oats.
  • Yes, but this is an American standard. There are plenty of other countries that serve perfectly healthy meals at restaurants.
  • That works for me. I actually usually stop at one bite. If there's a bag of chips on the table with dinner, so I don't feel deprived I usually pick out a small one and that's it. Whoever said it's impossible to eat "just one" never actually tried! Give it a go. I definitely recommend the technique, even for ice cream or…
  • Good for you! Moving forward and learning from your mistakes are a great way to maintain a positive attitude. :)
  • You need to figure out your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) which is your BMR plus the calories you use just doing normal activities. What you do is, you add your exercise you do working out to your TDEE, and THEN you subtract calories based on how much weight you want to lose. A deficit of 500 per day is 3500 a…
  • I have been buying new clothes on an as-needed basis... aka, when my jeans start falling off as I walk, it's time to get some new ones! My closet is really sparse right now because I'm in the middle of my weight loss. All of my old clothes have been given away and my newer ones are all different sizes. I'm waiting until I…
  • Thank you! I'm trying to do everything you guys have mentioned. I haven't been sleeping well, but I'm going to bed earlier to try and fix that, and I've also been taking lots of Vitamin C and skipping working out. I appreciate your input. :)
  • You should try eating more for a few days. Increase your intake by 200+ calories and see what happens. I've found that I have a lot more energy and feel less fatigue (as well as have good results on the scale) even though I'm eating more now than I used to.
  • I've lost 80 lbs so far, and sometimes I catch my reflection in the mirror and think "wow" but that's not often - mostly I only notice how big of a change in myself there's been when I see pictures other people have taken of me! It's really weird, actually.
  • Just try to work at it! You don't have to fix it over night. It helps to eat a bigger breakfast and eat foods that are high in calories but small in size. Try buttered toast, peanut butter, almonds, chocolate, etc.
  • Your past does not define you. Sure, we all ate some pretty bad food choices - but that's okay. You're choosing to make a better life for yourself now. The healthy, present version of you is what matters!
  • You just need to plan out what you're eating better. Try eating more calorie-dense foods or making up your day in advance - breakfast, lunch, and a rough idea about dinner. You need to eat all of your points. Take it from me... bad things happen when you don't. Here's a post I made:…
  • Hot tea is great, especially if you don't take it with sugar (or use artificial instead). Zero calories for a warm, happy tummy. I've also experimented microwaving apples before... not sure how effective that is, really, but it's an idea! Progresso makes some pretty good healthy soups, you just have to moderate those…
  • I take a multivitamin but I'll have to check and see if it includes Vitamin D. Pretty sure our milk is fortified, but it's been rainy here for the past several days so that could be it too. Thanks for your input!
  • Twinings Earl Grey or Irish Breakfast, Tazo Chai (with either almond milk or regular milk), green tea, and peppermint. :)
  • I always make my oatmeal with 50% water and 50% almond milk, for flavor and texture. To that, you can add honey, brown sugar, berries, banana, dried cranberries, raisins, nuts (walnuts, almonds, etc) or peanut butter. I personally find it really fun to make cocoa oatmeal, which you can do by adding unsweetened cocoa powder…

  • I'm 5'5" and 172. My current maintenance = 2186 After you multiply your BMR with your exercise coefficient, you need to then add +(BMR*0.1) ... that's the energy your digestive system uses when you eat. Maybe that's why your number is coming up low? I think you probably need more than what you said to maintain your weight.…
  • If you eat below your BMR for an extended period of time, bad things will happen to your body. I.e. your hair might start falling out, your nails will get weaker. You need those calories for your body to function correctly.
  • Use a gallon of milk or any other household items you have laying around. A box of soda cans might work! Just make sure the cardboard won't tear while you're using it haha.
  • Eggs are great! I usually use the whole egg because the extra fat from the yolk keeps you more satisfied. Try some on a slice of whole-wheat toast. My other favorite is oatmeal with fruit and nuts. It's much more filling than normal cereal.
  • I really love Chobani. It's amazing. But it gets really expensive to buy (especially when you get fancy with the fruit cups) but if you get it in bulk it isn't too bad. I would also recommend Yoplait Greek because it tastes really good (but doesn't have as much protein as Chobani).
  • Thanks for your help, guys! Running is a goal of mine to work on so I guess I should do like you said and try it outside. I'll also work on adding more strength training to my cardio/HIIT. I'm not too worried about the calorie estimates the machines give me though. I have been losing consistently each week so I think they…
  • Trying to figure this out myself. It seems like a huge grey area and I can't find any definitive answers.
  • Bump? Any other suggestions?
  • I'm 30 lbs overweight and I use the machine displays as a reference for how much I'm burning. The resistance is medium-high and my heart rate is over 160 for a majority of the ride, so by the end of 20 minutes it's ~180. The stairmaster is ~60. I'm usually REALLY sweaty when I'm done so I don't think they're lying. Thank…
  • Steampunk stuff is awesome! I wish I had more time to tinker and make things but for right now mostly I just admire other people and their awesome handiwork.
