  • Just started a fitness challenge at the gym focused on Zone Block eating, not necessarily Paleo. I'm finding it a good framework around which to make good food choices, so I'm loving it so far.
  • To both of the posters who posted photos I'd suggest checking out mobilityWOD.com and searching "squat depth" and "ankle mobility." Ankles and hips are probably your limiting factors right now. Consistent work will loosen themy up and help you get deeper. Also just sitting in a squat (use the rack to hold onto if…
  • Look on craigs list. You might get lucky and get one (and some plates thrown in) for much less than you think.
  • Use a TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) calculator to figure out what you should be eating to maintain your current size. This link is a good one. http://www.iifym.com/tdee-calculator/ It calculates your TDEE at 1555 calories. I used the info you provided in the initial post, sedentary lifestyle, no exercise, light…
  • I'll add that if it hurts, you're doing it right. MobilityWOD is a great resource.
  • Yeah I took those photos and then put my phone away and started warming up. There was a professional photographer there as well. Pretty sure Katrin headed to California soon after this.
  • Yeah it was built from the ground up and opened in March so still shiny. What you can't see is that outside those double doors to the right they were installing the outdoor rig :)
  • Also, think about WHY you keep failing. Is there something mentally getting in your way? You might need to get your head straight (figuratively speaking) first and then the rest will follow much easier. Personally, I try to change my mindframe for "I need to do..." to "I will do..." I also try to plan as much of my eating…
  • I have the fast lifts as well and wouldn't not want to run in them, but I've done box jumps, burpees and a few other movements in them during multi-movement WODs. Might be my bias against every wearing them outside.

  • Started with New Balance Minimus and they are great for just about everything. Just bought two pairs of Nanos at a Reebok outlet (2s and 4s) and I like both. Just a tiny bit of heel that the Minimus does not have. I still have lifting shoes for straight lifting workouts though.

  • Dang girl you're catching up to me! Great job.
  • Anyone notice some of the crazy scores on the men's side? There is no way that guy got 190 reps. No. Way.

  • I wouldn't use that as a reason not to do it again, but I'm just like you. I'm doing it once. Maybe twice if I really crap the bed and think that the reason I did is fixable, but that's it. I usually wait until Monday for just that reason. No temptation.

  • 258 scaled. Details above :)

  • ^ I am having trouble convincing myself I need to eat more, but I know it's true. You eat more than I do and I outweigh you by more than 100lbs and not all of it is fat! :)
  • Had several friends who, after the fact, were like "I accidentally PRd my cleans." My response was "no you didn't, because there is no way you PRd in round 2 or 3 of that workout!" Workouts like this have a great way of removing the mental blocks that tend to hold almost all of us back more than the physical ones. You're…

  • I did it scaled as I don't have toes to bars or more than single DUs. Got 258 reps. Was able to do 5 cleans in round 3 and failed on my last two attempts. The biggest thing, IMO, is the jump rope. I did 47 SUs in round 1 before missing and was unbroken in round 2 and 3. Whether RX or scaled, you have to get through those…

  • Well done!
  • I've been playing Thief just because it was free on Xbox Gold. Not too bad, but not great. Good for like an hour long session.
  • I keep largely Primal (essentially Paleo plus dairy) and try to follow the 80/20 rule.
  • Lunges always screw up my legs. Which means I should probably do them weekly until they don't. Got 130 scaled. Like Upstate I charged out of the gate too strong and the burpees became my undoing. I did the workout at 8:30am at Crossfit New England and am glad I chose not to eat breakfast, because after a few burpees near…

  • I think you're right at the point where you just need to play around a bit. Do what you're doing for a month and see what happens, then keep doing it until you get where you need to be.
  • It hurts to sit and it hurts to stand, but walking isn't bad. Got 130 scaled. None of the movements presented a problem, but the burpees just gassed me and I had to stop to catch my breath more than normal, especially towards the end. Planet Fitness is a chain that costs about $10/month, has pizza and bagel days during the…
  • Never even thought of breathing while I jump rope. I just do it.
  • So to clarify, you're doing between 10 and 15 CF workouts/Wods per week? That would be excessive for almost anyone short of a high-level Games competitor. Throw away the scale. Doing that volume of work it's unlikely you're going to lose weight. You'll lose body fat, but you're probably adding muscle.
  • I probably go lower on air squats but I'm throwing myself down to get the bounce out of the bottom to make it a bit easier. For weighted back squats I'd guess I'm right at parallel or maybe a wee bit short. Much better than I was when I started Crossfit, but still a bit of mobility work to be done.
  • Yeah I think it will be fun. The new head coach/owner is a great guy. Had been the head coach at CFNE for years before this. Also how is this for a kick in the nuts: Rumor is that a Planet Fitness is going into the spot we are vacating.
  • Thanks, it is compiled from several old threads that were posted on here.
  • We finished our last Paleo Challenge last week and the testing workouts were 1. Find 2RM Front Squat and then do Grace 2. Cindy I caught the flu on Xmas day and January 10th (first day of the challenge) was the first real workout I'd done since then. Given that I scaled the weight down to 115, even though the last 3-4…
  • I'm timing my LiveSocial purchased month at a local box to start this Friday specifically so I can hopefully get in all five workouts during its term.
