2012 Ford Focus Titanium hatch back. Love it. Traded my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 in July (seems all I was hauling was kids...). Haven't looked back, don't regret it one bit.

My wife told me yesterday that she wants "real pizza," meaning "not pillsbury crust or turkey pepperoni and not made in our own kitchen." Which I'm OK with. Moderation, right? Aside from that I was thinking about some buffalo chicken wontons (wonton wrapper, a little shredded, cooked chicken breast with some buffalo sauce…

Pre-plan my days the night before, adjust as I go. Not sure how else I'd stay on plan (like today...oi...)

Burpees. And I'm pretty sure I'd lmao if I walked into Subway and saw the "artist" burpee-ing behind the counter...

The Nerd Fitness guy recommends body-weight rows as an alternative/starter pull-up by putting your feet under a table then hanging from the edge. Even if you can do "real" pull-ups, I would imagine this would be a similar, good workout. Check out what he labels as "level 2" here:…

Got to find something that's "real." This nebulous "I want to be more fit" didn't ever do anything for me. My list of motivators: 1. Being able to play with the kids in the back yard for more than 47 seconds without getting tired. 2. Being able to walk into *ANY* store in the mall and buy clothes (W31x32 pants are harder…

If you have a way to get the actual mass of the banana, use the mass. Length is an OK estimate, and it won't vary all that much, but mass will be more accurate.

I run after my kids are in bed, which means I'm not out the door until 8:30 at the earliest (don't worry, my wife and I alternate days, so I'm "stuck" with the kids on my non-running days). I'm getting back into the habit of my "normal" evening snack: 1 scoop protein powder (currently enjoying the Dymatize Elite Gourmet…

Things heard recently around my work or house: "It's just a short run tonite" (then, when asked how long) "5 ... 5 and a half." (promptly told I was nuts then asked what a "long" run would be) "On Saturdays I do 12-13...." (Promptly told that I wasn't just nuts, I was f*king nuts) Wife of 99clmsntgr - Are you sure you want…

Congrats! I know that feeling well, from both sides of it. I was the dreaded "uh oh," guy for a long time. But I also remember the first time I sat down and had wiggle room. I just sat there with a goofy grin on my face. Good work. Its those unexpected "good feelings" that keep us going.

For the most part I'm extremely happy with the free service I used everyday and have used for almost 2 consecutive years. There are a couple things come to mind that I would update or change, but it's not a pressing, "OMG! I'm quitting if you don't fix this" nag list * - The ability to set my diary to track or more readily…

Calories I show below are for Dymatize whey/casein blend. They'll be a little less if you use something like Amp Wheybolic Pro (whichever GNC one has 93 calories per scoop). Although not lately, I usually use some protein powder in the morning - 1/2 cup old fashioned oats, 1 banana mashed up, 1 scoop protein powder (flavor…

1. kix 2. apple cinnamon cheerios 3. cinnamon toast crunch 4. honey nut cheerios 5. cocoa puffs (equally delicious on this one, but the consistency holds up better on cocoa puffs. That and cocoa puffs with chocolate milk on them is what helped me get fatter in college, so there's nostalgia there...) 6. fruity pebbles 7.…

There's probably a small difference in macros, as gerlombian suggests, because of the differences in processing. I don't think the nutritional data on the packages is any different across the three. Personally I say, "eat whichever one you like." I don't see a cooking time difference between the instant and the…

In no particular order, my favorites: Bell's Hopslam Bell's Two-Hearted Ale St. Bernardus ABT 12 Stone Arrogant *kitten* Rodenbach Grand Cru I've managed to lose weight while still drinking beer. Most of the time that happens on my long run days when I know I still have the calories to burn. And, as evidenced by my list…

This. And make a slightly more sensible choice. Kids meal, 4 piece nuggets, with the SMALL waffle fries. It won't be a great meal, but it will scratch the itch and not absolutely murder you in calories. Then go run. Or whatever you prefer for exercise.

I do most of the cooking. Partly because I'm a little more anal about making sure I understand what all goes into the recipes we're making. Mostly because I'm home first with the 2 year old, about 20 minutes before the wife gets home with our 5 year old. That and I actually enjoy it.

Melbourne, here! There's more than a handful of us running around. Some of us quite literally

This. A lot of the heavy lifters I know said they gained the most mass and tone when they started out and were just doing body weight exercises (push-ups, squats, lunges, pull-ups, etc). Eventually you will need to grow into lifting heavy things - your body will adapt to whatever stress you put onto it, if you want your…

Lose the fat and they'll go away. Trust me, I'm living proof. Adding muscle underneath will help tighten things up, too. And, while you say you don't have weights or equipment, there are any number of people that argue you don't need them. There are plenty of body-weight based exercise regiments that will do just that.…

My wife and I have 2 kids, ages 5 and 2. We do not "count their calories" from a strict sense, but we do try to enforce smart choices and smart portion sizes (there's no way a 2-year-old should get the same size portion I or any other adult gets). I don't ever want to tell my kids "you can't have that," but there are some…

Going to buy lots. Put in freezer. Remove in about a year or year and a half, sell on eBay. It may not be the Underpants Gnomes' 3-step plan, but I see mad profits about 18 months from now...

Congrats! Doesn't matter what your time was, the important thing is that you did it! Great job!

I have the Camelbak Delaney Plus. At first I hated it. It took a long, long time to figure out how to get it to sit on my hips without shifting around (basically you have to wear it balls tight). It has a couple pockets good for carrying Gu and keys/ipod/cellphone/whatever, too.…

When do you eat compared to when you run? Most of my runs are in the evening, a couple hours after dinner (after the kiddos are in bed and the house has settled a little). This seems optimum for my mid-week, shorter runs, however, my long runs are on the weekend, early, early in the morning (I was out the door at 5AM…

I love microwave popcorn. An easy, relatively low calorie snack. If you're worried about the abundance of chemicals (if those don't kill ya, something else will, is my philosophy), you can try this: http://www.squawkfox.com/2010/07/27/popcorn-recipe-gourmet-popcorn/ It's directions for making microwave popcorn in a brown…

Well, since 1 pint is 16 ounces, it should be simple math if all you can find is 12 ounce references, right? I still enjoy a frosty barley pop or three. I don't drink anything with the words "Mich," "Bud," "Coors" or "Light" in the name (you can find my list of "favorites" in the similarly named topic from yesterday on the…
