Friend at work: Hey, what is that? Me: It's my 'found on road dead' ID tag. Friend: why do you have that? Me: Because you can't always hear or see them coming... My name/birth year Hometown Wife's Cell Mom's landline Blood type PLZ DRAG ACROSS FINISH I have the ankle one. I did not opt for the online information, just the…

Saturday, 25-October-2014, Spinx RunFest, Greenville, SC, Run Town USA Half-Marathon I set the goal of 1:40 for the race, which would have been a PR. I ran a 1:42 in Athens earlier in the year and had trained all summer. The RTUSA Half is a tough course, rolling down hill for the first half and climbing the second half, so…

I wear my RoadID and two Nathan reflective bands on my ankles when I run as well as a flashing LED wristband (can't remember what brand, probably also Nathan, I got it at the local running shop) and my headlamp (cheap-o from Home Depot or summat, gets the job done). And always a day-glo type of shirt. I'm amazed at some of…

nerdfitness has a handful of workouts that are bodyweight. Search for either their travel workout or park workout (all you need is a playground that's within walking/running distance of your house) breakingmuscle also has a line of bodyweight only workouts. Start with Cycle 1. And my other advice would be, "Just do it."

Two parts to my response, first to this specific question - stay hydrated, lose slowly. Your skin is elastic and will bounce back, but it needs help. Staying hydrated will help it with some of the bounce back. But as one other poster stated, think of it as an over-filled balloon that you let the air out of. It retracts,…

2:05 will be right at a 9:30 minute pace, which is about 45 seconds per mile over your 5k PR. If you keep to your training plan, especially if you're including some speed work once a week or so, that should be a pretty easy goal to hit. I think you'll surprise yourself. Having a similar 5K pace when I started training and…

I carry my Samsung Galaxy S5 in its Otterbox Commuter case on each run. It does not fit the small belt pockets and in the larger ones, it moves around too much and is just plain annoying. So I went with a sleeve and there aren't many large enough for the phone *and* case. But I did find one. I use the NXE ActiveSLEEVE…

I'm listening to my PC think real hard. Gotta love large Solidworks assembly models.

#2 is me. Wednesday , as prescribed by my typical training plans, should be speed work. Intervals, tempo runs, whatever. Lately, however, it's become "Let's just get a quick 2-3 in and do some weights" with the guys I work with. 1 month to my next half-marathon, I think it's time to get back on plan.

This is probably something I need to keep better track of. Without any real record, I would guess I get 300 or so miles in a pair of shoes, I've pushed upward of 450 on a couple. Usually I rotate three pairs (newest pair for long runs and a mid-week easy run, mid-lifers for speed work and the oldest for cross-training)…

A good 3 days of running... Thursday, 11-SEP - Kaiser Permanente Corporate 5K Challenge, finished in 21:17 about 30 seconds off my PR, (but it was HOT and this is a hilly course -- PR was in FL on a flat track), the little card they handed me had the number "100" on it, which given there were almost 17,000 runners and…

I started running when I was 300 pounds. What I found was more support than anything else -- no one ever scoffed, no one ever said anything negative. Was I noticed? Of course, I was huge, it was hard to not be noticed. But most other runners never said anything or stared. The ones that did say anything were encouraging.…

First few that come to mind - Blink 182 Adam's Song The Johnny Cash version of Hurt and if we're mentioning Johnny Cash, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry. Particularly the version on American IV.

I use this one, too. Average my non-VO2 Max and VO2 Max (estimated from my last 5K results) and calculate net calories burned. If it's a running work out, I get the "activity based calories" from their website and add that to my averaging (it tends to be a little more conservative than MFP's exercise database). I've used…

Mayo Clinic just recently did a similar study. The big thing is that the elastomers used in the soles of the shoes need to be able to recover to their unstressed state after being impacted thousands of times during a run. If you're running every day, or even every other day, the shoes themselves don't have time to recover.…

There's tons of runners on MFP (myself being one of them). You can also join the Long Distance Runners group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/94-long-distance-runners It's got a fairly active message board.

Flash Gordon It's so bad it's good. And it's my ultimate guilty pleasure movie. For a while, TMC or SHO or one of those channels was showing the movie almost every night. And almost every night I would get an "Ugh. Again? REALLY?" from my wife.

I was working with a friend who's an annual Goofy runner to get into running. And we set a goal - he was planning to run the Disney Wine and Dine half in 2009. I had never run that far, but they offered a relay, divided 5 miles for the first leg, 8.1 miles for the second leg. My wife, who at the time was also getting into…

Really Pitfall isn't too difficult. Watch out for the fast-rolling logs. And I would beware of the scorpions in the tunnel. They'll change direction on you while you're jumping over them.

http://breakingmuscle.com/workouts/kettlebell bewm. Lots of KB workouts there. I know you said no HIIT, but the basic KB exercises are routine to my workouts - KB swings, goblet squats and rebel push-ups (using a kettle bell pair or dumbells).
