I was in good shape when I met my wife, playing hockey 3 times a week and lots of time in the gym. Time is one of the advantages of being single. Then graduate school, marriage, kids, work, etc pounds came back on. I then developed really bad arthritis in both knees and was unable to do much in the gym. Last May had both…

Physical therapy will work to address the swelling, pain and restoring function (ie. running) with exercise and various modalities.

Go to the Titleist Peformance Instutitutes website and there is a good instruction video on the site. You will need to register (it is free) and then search the exercise area. www.mytpi.com Some of the exercises will hurt while doing them but it will improve flexibility much faster than static stretching. FYI.... I am a…

Muscle relaxers and pain killers are not appropriate for a knee sprain, may be for a back injury. Find a sports medicine doctor who can determine with an accurate exam if ligaments or the meniscus are damaged and may prescribe anti-inflammatory medication and possible physical therapy. The wait and see approach will slow…

I f you shop the major shoe sources online (ie. New Balance) they will have shoes listed, usually under "motion control" that may fit your need. I would recommend having someone fit you for shoes at a running store, then use the size information for online shopping. If you have had bunion surgery, you may benefit from an…

You can find many programs online. Just search for 5K training or walk/run programs. I found a couple of nice .pdf files with programs for my wife. Did you have you ACL reconstructed? You may want to work with a sports PT prior to running to ensure you have good eccentric quad control and good hip strength (these may lead…
