Double muscling, eh? Thats interesting - there are genes which code for it that have been bred into some kinds of sheep (MyoMax) and cattle (I believe Belgian Blues) have it. No idea how the gene works or whether this product actually do anything though....

Eat plenty of eggs - for vitamins and minerals. Egg whites have protein and little else, which is why they are lo-cal. Also, only eating the whites is a miserable, miserable way to live.

Hear Hear. :drinker:

Of course it matters, that's what science is about. You look at a study critically, and you have to be very careful applying in vitro studies to the living organism. Iron or not, I can haul bales all day and shear hundreds of sheep in the summer, even before I go to the gym......

The workers do it, but threatening industrial action. the price of a burger remains the same, because competition.
-
Yeah, but not one as profitable as McDonalds......

In all honesty, I dont care. I know a one-man band can make a good living at what I do, so I'm really not interested. I know that there will always be a market for what I produce and that my capital value increases with my stock. I know I could sell them all tomorrow and walk away better off than when I started.
-
I dont employ anyone. If I do, they will be a part time farm worker and judging by the standards on this thread they will be the lowest of the low. The answer is, of course I wouldn't dream of employing anyone I couldn't pay a living wage to.
-
Following on from previous - I own my own business. I needed start up capital to do this. Not everyone has the capital to take a punt on the market. In fact, not many do.

Of course it matters - far better to study moderate alcohol consumption on humans, examining the whole system. Basically, in that study, they tipped ethanol on cells and reported that it inhibited their function. How surprising! Learn to read scientific papers critically. And, for what its worth, I'm cutting and doing so…

Or they can use their collective bargaining to win a better wage for doing the same job, and possibly be happier people who, instead of having to work yet more grinding hours can spend time at home with their families etc. Yes, their CEO might get paid less but so what? I imagine he or she is still going to be very well…

And this seems to be a state of affairs that a lot on here are happy with, or will be until it is them that fall into the 'have nots' either by their raises not keeping up with inflation or by redundancies etc. But hey, we could all start out own business if we wanted, couldn't we?
-
I know, but according to some on this thread, you'd be wrong because fast food jobs are 'meant' for part-timers or kids, and apparently the people who are adult, full-time employees that you do employ are directionless scum who don't deserve the wage that you are paying them, because they should want a 'better" job than…

Cue blind rage about "the youth of today"...

Except that companies are pyramidal in structure and therefore most of its employees must be on the bottom rung. One shift manager looks after 10 employees, say, 2 deputy managers look after them, a store manager oversees the lot, area manager looks after several stores...... See how the numbers decrease?
-
Actually, no it doesn't behove you at all. It behoves the management of McDonalds to decide if it is worth ploughing some of the billions they made in profit back into the workforce, and whether, at this point deploying some of their funds in this direction will make for a better-run (and possibly more profitable in the…

Then you have missed all the articles they have run forewarning us of "the big freeze" that we are supposedly due. What it really means is "the mild winter continues". Its been pretty windy, don't get me wrong, but nothing like the hurricanes you get over there.
-
Its the Daily Mail. Roughly translated the article means "it'll be a bit windy".

They have logical units of measurement. Having been to France, I can say that this is where the logic ends, though.
-
No; I dont mean that we chose to leave of our own accord. By 'left you with' I mean 'remains from the time America belonged to us'. Hence my humour at 'freedom' units. Like I said; imperial units.
-
I thought if you just worked HARD enough, you'll be a millionaire in no time. Isn't that the American Dream?
-
And if they are so replaceable, why doesn't she? And if she did, dont you think she would deserve a living wage in exchange for her labour?
-
How do you know? Have you any idea of scabs Vs Strikers in terms of numbers. If it was no threat then it would hardly be newsworthy.
-
Even if they could fire them all (within the framework of the law) they couldn't fire them all without taking a huge financial hit. Hence striking is an effective barganing tool and has been even before the introduction of labour laws.
-
Except if they could then the threat of a strike would be meaningless, wouldn't it?
-
Of course it is - you are not a slave, you are not obliged to go to work. Withdrawing your labour is your perogative. Organising the workforce to collectively do this at the same time to attempt to redistribute wealth downwards however, seems to be seen as criminal by some.
-
Except they can't can they, because if they did and the workers stayed out they would be screwed. hence the barganing position of the workforce, hence why striking is an effective barganing tool. If they could be replaced, they would, McDonalds are not holding onto them out of some sense of civic duty. Why must this point…

Christ.... Nail. Head. It has nothing to do with certain (and numerous, it seems) posters on this thread basically seeing the employees as subhuman, or petty squabbles about whether their *much more deserving* job pays more or, really to do with the cost of living. It is to do with the distribution of an excess (profit)…

I have always felt that watching your calorie intake on a special occasion leads to you resenting trying to cut calories; so don't. Enjoy yourself, don't eat too much crap and carry on losing weight the next day. It takes 3500 Kcal to gain a pound.
-
The fact remains that you chose to keep using the units of measurement we left you with. The Canadians chose to follow the French and their logical systems.
