You clearly hang out with different sportsmen to me. Drinking is practically compulsory on Rugby teams..... Also: My dad is a functioning alcoholic. I am not, and yet I drink more than him.
-
That's fine - life is all about calculated risk. Getting into a car is much more risky (even sober) than consuming alcohol, given the injury and mortailty rate on the roads and yet we do it everyday.

I'm fairly sure the last time I went to my doctor, I told him I had 4 pints a week (which is 8 drinks) and I was classed as a 'moderate' drinker. Also; for what its worth, the last time I checked (and I admit it has been a while) the UK had lower levels of alcoholism than France.

I had my usual protein drink (plain whey, milk, a spoon of sugar and a bit of vanilla) last night and I was eyeing the navy rum, wondering about the very same thing..... Great minds and all that.

How much of a hurry? If that is the case, why don't they drop like flies at Lympstone? (admittedly many drop out, but still....) You still seem to have missed the point, which is that overtraining is basically a non-issue for most people, because life means that they simply do not have time to do so.
-
Too muscular for who, exactly?
-
Thats not really the point though is it. Most people can't train all day long, for a regular person who has a life, there is absolutley no chance that they will get enough free time to overtrain. Lets face it, if millitary basic isn't overtraining, you'd have to train all day long to achieve it, ergo its not worth worrying…

Good god no.

Whilst I mostly lift using weights on lifting days (although I tend to pullup and dip on lifting days), I don't believe lifters can knock bodyweight training until they are better than Frank Medrano.

Yoghurt is evil and will steal your loose change whilst you aren't looking.

I wouldn't call any of what the OP describes chivalrous - I'd just call it common courtesy (apart from the "sir" and "m'am" thing - thats a Texas thing, I'm guessing). I'd hold a door for anybody and expect the same in return. However, I am British.

How on earth is a 6'1" 18yr old with a fast metabolism going to gain on 2800/day? You are 18 - go aggressive bulk all the way. I would also cardio because thats what you will be doing in basic and you don't want to drop the weight during that and not pass ie - eat enough to fuel muscle growth and all the cardio you'll be…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8_8phD7AwM There we go. "There aint no such Mutha****in' thing as overtraining"

I always took the CT Fletcher attitude to overtraining..... Seems I was right.... I'd link a video, but I don't think its safe for MFP.

Interesting. The streets of the UK after the pubs chuck out don't seem to be short of testosterone....

Beer. :drinker:

Ffs, its only a couple of pints a day. If you hit your Protein targets, why the hell not? There seems to be this puritanical streak running through the fitness industry, and I really can't find any hard evidence that (non-binge) drinking helps or hinders muscle/strength gain. Beer is full of lovely b-vitamins and hops are…

Some funny apples in this thread.. I like: Egremont Russet, Coxs, Lord Lambourne and if you can find them: Beauty of Bath. For cooking: Bramley.

Nice work man! Keep it up...

Swimming is a good option for fitness, but many swimmers also incorporate resistance training etc on non-swim days (Land training) for the reasons outlined above. I am an ex-county standard swimmer myself.

You are forgetting the existence of those magnificent organs, the liver and kidneys.

Protein is protein - some sources have a better protein to carb ratio, but I wouldn't worry about amino acids, BCAAs and whatnot, in fact I actively avoid mixtures have anything added - your amino acids etc should come from your varied diet.

I'm nether sick nor fat so I shall ignore these. :drinker:

Sounds like an "Irish mixed grill" to me.....

So; cauliflower cheese then, yeah?

It'll be interesting to see how much muscle I have gained when I cut again. I am quite surprised at the rate of gain, especially as I Farm for a living and spend a lot of time on my feet. Ah well, I enjoyed the beer and the pizza.

Bit late for that for me, now. As of this morining: 185lbs...thats 19lbs on in the space of just under 2 months. I think I have added an inch to my waist and can no longer fit in 30" trousers. However, plenty of room in the 32s I have knocking about.
