  • You should eat back some of the calories burned or your body may actually try harder to hold onto your body fat as a preservation. Personally for the first 4 wks that I did not eat back calories, my body held onto every pound, when I started eating back some of those exercised calories, I started losing weight. (Although…

  • My least favorite body part? My new spare tire, tree trunk arms, or chubby cheeks, it changes everyday, depending on my outfit and the season! I have always had thick thighs and hips and have grown to accept that. I have however not accepted my belly that has continued to push out my jeans waistband in the last 4 years. I…
  • It's tough to stay on a "strict diet" when you're on vacation! And don't let your food worries ruin your vacation. It's probably going to be ok to have a few extra treats over the weekend, especially if you're going to keep on your feet and do some sightseeing, lots of walking! If your worried then just don't go overboard…

  • I'm not sure what xylitol is, where do you get it? I use the herb stevia as a sweetener, is is similar to that?

  • I think it can be both actually. Some pilates workouts are faster paced and very tough, increasing the breathing and heart rate. But there are also many strength building poses. I do some pilates in addition to my regular cardio (walking, jogging, aerobics etc.) and strength ( weights at gym or home workouts with dumbells)…

  • I have read many many posts on this subject and most of us have come to the conclusion that we should in fact be eating back those calories burned. However, most machines and estimates of calories burned are slightly inaccurate! To play it safe I only eat back about 60-70% of what I have burned.
  • I'm with you on that goal! Shorts and a tank top this summer would be nice, and to feel good wearing them! I think almost all women are self conciece in a bathing suit, but I know I'll feel better on our vacation to California this year if I'm 20 lbs smaller in my suit!
  • You LOST one pound last week! Great job! That is why we are all here to lose weight and you did it! Hopefully this week you will lose another pound, that is what I'm hoping for! I struggle very hard to lose weight, it is not easy for me, or any of us. But as long as we continue to move forward with healthy eating and…
  • Of course I will keep up with my diet and exercise and strive towards a bikini body, but nothing short of surgery would make that happen by May. I lose weight at an extremely slow pace, despite cutting calories, eating healthy and exercising a lot. I'll still plan to check in here at the challenge, but not ready to share a…
  • I personally have over 40 pounds to lose. I am definately gong to do everything I can to stay on track with eating healthy and exercising at least 45 minutes 6 days a week. But ding that will not give me a bikini body by May 1st!! I think I don't fit in with this challenge group. Good luck and have fun!
  • Extra water! I have IBS and need to get a regular intake of fiber foods. I eat a fiber one product everyday, either cereal (several varities) or the chewy bars. I also add a couple natural fiber pills almost everyday. I add flax to lots of stuff too, cereal, in baking, etc. Or on yogurt, just a sprinkle of ground flax,…
  • What is you BMR? This is a good estimate fo what you should be eating without excercise. Look in the tools tab. I had a similar problem. After 4 weeks of cutting calories and excercising like crazy, (not eating back cals burned) I hadn't lost a pound, but my jeans fit better, and my face leaner. In the 2 weeks since then I…
  • Thanks for sharing your story. Some people do intially lose alot of weight when cutting down to 1000 or below, I am not one of them. I barely dropped a couple pounds when I had my tonsils out and couldn't eat for 10 days! My diet is not nearly as drastic as yours, but you did what you thought best and learned from your…
  • I'm up for the challenge. Should we post before and after pics? (maybe wear more than a bikini in my before pic!) What should the start and end dates be? Should we have a weekly check in to update on how we're all doing as far as staying on track with eating, exercising and weigh-in? Would we vote on a winner or go by…
  • try searching the Fitness Magazine website. I used to get that mag and they always had workout suggestions and schedules. You might be able to find some ideas on the website. www.fitnessmagazine.com I just looked again and saw that they have some articles and tips for free. But that the personalized fitness plan is $40.…
  • Personally I almost always have a small snack before bed. I used to work overnights too, and no matter what time day or night, I would have a snack within an hour before bed. I have recently read and heard that it doesn't really affect your weight if you eat before bed, as long as you are staying within your calorie range.…
  • SEE DISCUSSION TOPIC "For those of you who don't believe" In general discussion:smile:
  • That is a very good rcommendation and guidline to follow, it makes complete sense. thank you.
  • I agree that sometimes adding some diet supplements like slimquick to assist with this new healthy lifestyle can really help some people. They are not magic pills and are not intended to be taken long term, most of us know that. I also take slimquick, and am doing so to help me take the edge off while starting my new diet,…
  • Exactly! Now these are rough estimates, everyones intake is different and everyone burns calories differently. Eat (about) 1200 calories everyday instead of 1700 you'll lose some weight. Eat (about) 1200 everyday, burn about 500, eat those 500 back, you'll lose some weight and have healthier muscles, ie your heart. (total…
  • I have made so many healthy changes in my life since joining this website, I eat healthier and excercise more. But like you I struggle to lose weight, and it is very frustrating! And after four weeks of trying to hard with so little results on the scale it is easy to say why bother? and give up. However, rather than give…
  • Yes, muscle does weigh more thatn fat which is why some people who gain muscle quickly and easily will hold weight a little longer when starting to excercise. You might also try a adding another type of cardio. Maybe some aerobics, pilates, yoga, and some light weights. ( I have many workout dvd's that offer all types of…
  • I am feeling the same frustrations! 5 weeks of cutting calories, eating much healthier foods, and excerising A LOT! and the scale? Hasn't moved in the right direction. But we can NOT give up now, or ever. These healthy changes in our food intake and exercise ARE making us healthier, whether the scales moves or not right…
  • Depending on health issues, I would ask a health professional before detoxing, try a chiroprator, nutritionist, or naturalpath. There are some organic and natural ways to flush your system. One chiroprator suggested natural, organic, unsweetened apple juice. Mix with filtered water and sip all day long for a couple days.…
  • After taking a break, too l o n g of break (6 months) from running last summer, I was the same way. I would try to run the last block home when out walking the dog and couldn't make it, they neighbor teased me from her front porch when my hhusband and the dog kept jogging and I huffed and puffed, then walked the last 30…
  • If you can get in two 15 minute workouts, that's great, and if you can build up to a longer workout, go for it, but only do what you can for now. Especially if your knees are hurting, don't push your knees. I have bad kees myself and need to ease up once in awhile. Try doing a circuit/interval trype workout 10 minutes on…
  • Running is a great way to tone the whole body and get some good cardio. Interval walk/jog/run is great. I've never been a good runner, but I do like to interval run/walk for a good cardio workout, but I try to take it easy and walk more when my knees start aching, which they do after a few months of running often. While it…
  • Fortunately my husband eats whatever I put on his plate. However I do try to add a few things that he enjoys much better than the salad and fish or chicken I usually have. I started cutting down to a leaner ground beef for burgers and casseroles, then I started using half beef, half ground turkey. I spice up the burgers…
