Ah, a voice of reason.

Personally I wouldn't put too much stock in an article on CNSNews.com. Being the Conservative..er Cybercast News Service they tend to be overly critical and spend a lot of time on "what ifs" for my taste. Especially where national health care initiatives are concerned.

Breakfast today consisted of 1/2 cup oatmeal (measured dry then cooked with one cup of water) 1 snack size Mott's Cinnamon Applesauce 1 poached Egg 8oz. of low sodium V8 juice

If your Blackberry can play MP3 podcasts you can download the series from http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/podcasts/podcasts.html I've used these podcasts throughout and he gives you voice prompts to let you know when to walk and run. MUCH easier than trying to use a watch to time yourself.

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to start over and work on speed or move on to the 5k to 10K program. time will tell.

Week 8 is over for me as of this morning. Week 9 and 30 minute runs start Wednesday!

Great job! Success stories like this one are what have helped me on my weight loss journey. I'm currently less than 20lbs from my (maybe) final goal of 180lbs with a grand total of 73lbs lost so far. I may just keep going to make it an even 100lbs lost and get to the weight I was at when I was 21. We'll see how I feel when…

I no longer have a lot of weight to lose. I'm less than 20lbs from my target weight of 180lbs now. But I have dropped over 70lbs since November and am here to offer encouragement. It's not easy, but it can be done. Hang in there and keep your eye on the overall trend of weight loss, don't let a minor setback or plateau get…

I use my Wii balance board to track my weekly weigh-in mostly for convenience sake. It does show some discrepancy when compared to the digital scale I have in the bathroom, but it's consistent and that's the important thing. You really only need something that will be consistent when compared to itself. Normally I'll weigh…

Ideally you should try to maintain a 10 minute mile, or 6 MPH, for the run portions. I'm far from an expert, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I can only relate what has worked for me. Following the C25K program you really should only be running three days per week especially if you're an inexperienced runner (like I…

Don't let it get to you, just listen to your body. I repeated week 4 when the final run was tougher for me than I thought it should be. Today I finished Week 8 day 2, a 28 minute run and could have gone for more. Keep it up, don't get discouraged if you have to repeat a week.

Congratulations! I just passed under the 200lb marker as well last week! :glasses:

I felt the same way as things started to ramp up. But here I am, just finished week 8 day 1 (28 minute run), I covered 3.51 miles in all and I feel great! My route today ended up taking me up to the top of an overpass (wow, what a slog up that LONG hill) before hitting my halfway point and heading back toward the house.…

I was a heavy Pepsi drinker before I started my weight loss journey. At first I cut back considerably, allowing myself only 1 12 oz serving per day. But now my tastes have changed and I'm drinking only diet sodas, mostly coke zero or diet A&W root beer when I want a carbonated beverage fix. Other than that it's plain old…

I'm not on the wagon, I'm pulling the dang thing.

I'm on week 7 of the couch-2-5k program and tossed out my old sneakers for a nice new set of Nike+ running shoes on week 2. What a HUGE difference they made, well worth the $70 I paid for them at the local Nike factory outlet store. I ran for the first two weeks in an old pair of nike Air basketball shoes and regretted it.…

Thank you, I've been getting that reaction a lot lately, especially from people who haven't seen me in a few months. My dental hygenist asked me yesterday if divorce prompted the weight loss. I think she was disappointed when I told her no. That profile picture is still about 10 pounds ago by the way. I'm due for another…

That was my experience as well when I tried the Atkins diet a few years ago. After about 2 months I would have killed for some bread or pasta. The best approach I think, at least the one that has worked for me (71lbs lost and counting as of this posting) is watching my total caloric intake for the day, not denying myself…

I started week 7 this morning so no more intervals, just straight runs of gradually increasing times over weeks 7, 8, & 9. 25, 28, & 30 minutes respectively. I actually covered just over a 5K run this morning (3.25 miles) with the warm-up and cool down walks figured in.

This has been my tactic and I've lost just over 70 pounds now. The trick I think is to not deny yourself any specific foods. It makes it easier when you tell yourself that you can at anything you want, even if you decide that something isn't really worth the number of calories it contains. I eat whatever I want, and count…

I feel your pain (literally) on joint care. I blew out a knee about 20 years ago and was apprehensive about running again. Just listen to your body and don't try to "push through the pain" too much. I also take glucosamine/chondroitin supplements daily which seem to help. Also, as far as the iPod goes I would recommend a…

I just finished week 6 and the last of the interval runs. Today was a 25 minute run with a 5 minute walk before and after. I managed to cover 3.13 miles, my first 5K (figuring in the distance I walked during the warmup and cool down). I was one of those that had a hard time starting with week two and actually repeated week…

I finished week 6 this morning with a 25 minute run and covered 3.13 miles with the 5 minute warm up and cool down walks factored in. No more intervals for me! Week 7 is 3 X 25 minute runs. Weeks 8 and 9 just stretch the times to 28 then 30 minutes respectively. I've come a long way since I thought the 5 minute run was…

Likewise, I walk briskly for 5 minutes before and after a run and only stretch after my cooldown walk.

I am on week 5 (day two this morning) and am looking forward to my first long (20 minute) run on Sunday. Today was two 8 minute runs with a 5 minute walking cooldown between them and of course a 5 minute warm-up and cool down before and after. I'm using the podcasts from http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/ which follow…

Agreed. A pound is a pound it's true. But that isn't the point of someone saying that muscle weighs more than fat. If measured in volume it most certainly does weigh much more. Which is why as you said, you can lose inches and actually remain the same or even gain weight.
-
I weigh myself weekly, on the same day at the same general time of day (Just after my morning workout on Wednesdays). Any more often than that and I start to feel obsessive.

Before, 270+ In Progress, 213 and counting. HAH! got it!

I obviously lack the link-fu required to get them to show up.
