  • I have heard this from many MFP's and have done it myself it does work. Sometimes you need to confuse your body to get it out of the rut of your normal eating and workout routine.
  • I also weigh daily, but only report once a week on weigh in day.
  • I would get a HRM monitor with a calories burned on it. That way you will know what you actually burned doing crunches etc...
  • I have the Polar PF7 and use it when I am walking outside to see how much I burn. When I am at the gym, I use the machines hrm and use that as a gage if I am pushing it or not. I found at some gyms if I used my monitor on the treadmill or eliptical it was affecting other peoples machines. LOL!
  • Pick up a heart rate monitor, there are many to choose from, many have the calories you burn too. I picked mine up at a Sports Authority. You are a very lucky lady to have such a high metabolism! Best of luck!
  • Bump. I will be interested to know what you think of it.
  • I am in the same position as you and was worried about injuring myself. I started walking on the treadmill, but had to stop because I discovered I have plantar faciitis. So, I moved to the ellipitcal and love it! It is low impact to your feet, ankles and knees and its a really great workout. I started at 20 minutes and…
  • Welcome to MFP! You are going to love it and people are really great for support and advice on here. Congratulations on your first steps to a healthier you! If you want you can send me an friend invite and we can help each other on our journeys. Deb :flowerforyou:
  • I would go with what the machine says for calories burned if you have to log in your weight, height etc.
  • I took a peak at your food diary and I would say maybe avoid drinking your calories. Even the non-fat latte's that you drink had 200 calories in them. Even the fruit smoothies were around 200 calories. Better to eat your calories like eating more fruits and veggie's. They are wonderful filler foods that help make your more…
  • The feet going numb is due to the extra pressure from the forward motion pushing your feet forward in your shoes and the position on the foot rest. I used to get that all the time on the elliptical at my old gym and I would pedal backwards for a few minutes to get rid of the numbness. At my new gym I don't experience…
  • Surprisingly enough, the research I have read says to make sure you drink plenty of water and increasing your fiber (which you have done).
  • Some people at my office bought workout balls and sit on those at their desk instead of their chair. It helps with your chore muscles, balance and posture. Just don't bounce off of it. This topic made me sit up straighter in my chair too. I slouch all the time.
  • I was looking for the same thing. If you google search you will find some targeted exercises for that area. It will really be working the long thigh muscles on the sides. The fat will not disappear from the exercises but from your diet, but the exercise will tighten up the muscles and firm it up. Some of the curviness is…
  • Start taking pictures and measurements. I bet you are losing inches and sculpting yourself. I know because I am experiencing the same thing and decided last month to take a picture and record my measurements. I know that I have lost in inches because I am down a size in shirts and my work pants are gapping out at the waist…
  • Agree with this one totally! Rest if you are too drained, you wouldn't be helping yourself if it would knock you on your butt.

  • MFP has already set you up with a 500 calorie deficit when started which brings you to your daily calories of 1300. They suggest that you eat your calories burned to help fuel your body. This is most important when you are down to your last 10 pounds or so as your body needs the extra calories to fuel you for the day plus…
  • Heck ya this happened to me too! You are probably toning up and that is why the scale doesn't change much. Keep on going you will see the changes soon! Take pictures and start measuring yourself for the times that the scale doesn't seem to change.
  • As everyone stated definitely measure and take pictures. That will help him see the changes that don't occur on the scale. I also have a link to a blog that I think will be very insightful for your husband. www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3926473&SPShared=TRUE This gal took many pictures of…
  • I agree they are crazy high in sodium. I really like them too, but was hesitant to eat them again based on the sodium. I am sure they are fine once in awhile, but make sure you drink extra water that day to flush out the sodium. That's what I have heard from others on this site about sodium questions.
  • I agree, if it puts you way over to an unhealthy level try using half as much of either broth or cream of chicken and replace the other half with water or low fat sour cream?
  • You might not think you've changed, but you are. Start measuring yourself and you will see changes in inches. I just started because i was stalling out or going up a pound or two and then back to where I was. It was funny to see where I was losing it sometimes in my arms or waist or the dreaded bust. Stick with it you will…
  • I have a 2000 calories and it's based on our current weight, height , activity and weight loss goal. And I, for one am glad that I have more calories!!!! I think I would starve if I had to start with 1200 calories a day. I love that I can eat up to 2000 calories a day and still lose a pound a week! Woo hoo! I am…
  • Your meal plan looks great! Because of where you are at in your journey. I would suggest changing your food diary to track sodium and sugars. Sodium more importantly and sugars secondly. You may find that your sodium intake is higher than recommended and if you aren't drinking enough water to flush the sodium out of your…
  • Here is the link: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3926473&SPShared=TRUE You will have to copy that into your browser to get to her blog. It is very encouraging!
  • I read a recent message or blog on this site and the gal took pictures of her weight loss journey and how she was just as frustrated as you. I wish I could find it because I think it would really help you. She stayed around 160 for several months and took pictures along the way and even though the scale didn't change much…
  • I know me too! Everytime it's there and I look longingly at it hoping it will pop off the page and into my mouth! I really think they need to screen what they put on this site. It really seems counter productive.
  • You only need to count the calories in dry form, unless you are adding something other than water to make it double in size.
  • Yes, I do as recommended by my Doctor. I take 1200 mg daily. I don't like fish except tuna (in can) so this is the only way I am getting my omegas.
  • I usually don't eat them and if I do, I only maybe tap in a few 100 calories. When you take an excercise from MFP database who knows if it is truly what you burned unless you use a HRM. It is up to you. There are a bunch of article on this topic as someone posted earlier. It appears to be really important to eat them…
