I use progesterone cream and it seems to help balance some of the whacky hormones.

That should be accurate. Might's well use what you've got!

I think you are doing very well to have lost almost 70 lbs in a year! That's great progress but DON'T compare yourself to others! Every body is different and you have to work with what works for you. Be patient. It's okay to take a break for a time and just maintain, like UponThisRock said.

I found a good scale on Amazon and love how I can be so much more accurate. It takes work to log everything but I tend to think twice about eating if I know I'm going to be logging it!
-
Thanks! Consistent exercise (mostly running 3-4 days/wk) and trying to eat just 100 calories above my BMR. Sometimes I'm over on my personal calorie goal but always below my maintenance allowance.

From reading most of these comments, I am encouraged that so many of us on MFP have the right attitude toward weight loss and being fit. This is a great support and motivator. Keep up the good work!

Welcome! I think you'll find good support here. What has finally worked for me is making sure I exercise at least 4 times a week with good cardio and get in some strength training, too. I also am a stickler for what I'm actually eating, weighing out my food to be sure my portions are right. What has worked great for me was…

Not too long ago a friend pulled my husband aside and asked if I was okay. "She doesn't have an eating disorder, does she?" Mind you, this comes from someone about 50 lbs overweight! I wonder what she'd say if she saw me now, 10 lbs less than I was before! And I still have about 20 lbs to go to my goal! It's not their…

We have a CSA membership and local supply for raw milk, beef, chicken, eggs, etc. We use soap nuts, too, and the liquid soap nuts for laundry. (My daughter loves the savings at college of not having to use typical laundry detergents! She just tosses in her bag of soap nuts.) I also get good grains to grind my own flour to…

I have a question along these lines. I plan to do a half (my first) in June and then a full (also my first) at the end of September. Is it okay to use the full marathon training schedule to train for my half?

I make my own whole grain bread so it's much cheaper and I can alter the size of slices.
-
That would be me but at 51 it's a lot of work!!!

Thanks!

Welcome! I'm 51, 5'4" and weighed 166 a year ago. Now I'm down to 150 (was 148 before Christmas) but it comes off very slowly and with lots of work. I find that I have to log my food before I eat it to make sure it's what I can have calorie-wise. I've also learned what things trigger me to eat more and what foods make the…

^^sodium and carbs, same here. It's definitely more work now to lose but, boy oh boy, does it come back on fast if I'm not careful! I had one week over the holidays that I didn't get in any exercise and gained a few pounds that I'm still working on getting off.

Some of our biggest mistakes come from looking around at others for what we should be doing! But, sometimes looking at others can be inspirational.

Go to a specialized running store and they will be able to outfit you with high impact clothing as well as good running shoes. Listen to them and don't be intimidated by their obvious in shape bodies! They have great experience and use that to get new and seasoned runners outfitted well.
-
Ours went up but not by that much. I think by about $30 for June - November deliveries.
-
Oh, and they can get stuck between your teeth! Feels and looks funny!

I use them. They are a good source of protein and Omegas. I like to dip a banana in them and eat it before a run. Also, water, a little lemon juice, honey, and a tablespoon of seeds is a great energy drink. No clue if they help with weight loss. Just know that they are good for you.

Planning my first half marathon in June. Hope to do a full in the fall sometime.
-
Wow! This is going to be a tough time for you. Knowing that already is a good start. My suggestions: remove all junk food if it's still around, have healthy snacks ready so you don't have to prepare them, use exercise as a way to counteract any "bad" times, take time to realize you will go through a process of separation.…

Feel the same here. I think some of it has to do with the shorter days and our bodies want to conserve energy for the long winter. :grumble: This is the first year that I'm not going to give up what I've started! I know it's a choice to make and it's much easier to just let things slide.
-
I'll take our winters anyday over those kind of temps!!! I like it anywhere between 20 and 60 and can get that most days here in NY anytime of the year. I might have to run at 5 a.m. on a hot summer day but it's doable! Enjoy your sunshine and warm weather!
-
Well, I bit the bullet and got in an hour on the dreadmill. :grumble: Guess it's better than nothing. I'm really hoping to do a half in June and don't want to start from square one in March like I usually do! Need to get a couple face masks (my 15 yo runs with me) and then we might be set to go outside on these days.

Is there someone you can ask to keep you accountable? Someone that you see/talk with frequently? I find that actually having to tell someone, "No, i didn't exercise today and I overate my calories as well" makes me want to do what I need to do.
-
There have been a lot of threads on this topic! Some eat them back and some don't. You'll need to figure out how your body works and what to do with them. I try to eat about 100 calories above my BMR unless I burn A LOT of calories in an extra long workout/run.

I get my coconut oil from vitacost.com. It's cold-pressed and organic. I buy the large 54 oz (about 4.5 lb) container for about $20. I use it in some of my cooking - great in my homemade granola! - and to make my own deodorant. (1/4 c. baking soda, 1/4 c. cornstarch or arrowroot, 5-6 Tbl. of coconut oil). In the summer the…
