New to this group and to clean IF
Just joined this group. I’ve been doing clean IF for a week now and have been able to do 16:8-20:4. I like this group for women my age (turning 60 in May) because our hormones and bodies don’t work like those of the younger ladies. Hoping I have some new numbers to show my doctor in April. (He’s a proponent of less…

So frustrated with doctors!
Anyone else have frustrations with doctors' comments about menopause and weight? My primary (male) said it just comes down to calories in/calories out. NO IT DOESN'T!!!! When I went in for my pre-colonoscopy appt I mentioned to the dr (female) that I was trying to figure out how to lose with menopause. She just laughed and…

Menopausal Women - help please
Wondering if there are any women in menopause EM2WL. I'm just having a tough time getting my calories figured out with my metabolism/hormone changes. It's just not like it used to be!!!! :-/ I mean no offense by this but I'd rather not hear from 20, 30, or 40 somethings telling me what I should be doing. I'm almost 55 and…

Progesterone cream
Anyone else using this and finding it helpful? I won't do HRT so this is one route that I'm taking.

Any menopausal women doing EM2WL?
I'm looking to see what other women going through menopause are doing by eating this way. I've upped my calories but have to be so careful because of my slowing metabolism.

Evening primrose oil?
I started taking EPO about a month ago on the recommendation of a friend. Anyone else tried this for balancing whacked out hormones?

PR'd my first 5K of the year
I decided yesterday to run a local YMCA 5K. After training for a half marathon (which I ran in June) I thought this would be a nice change. I did it in 26:30 - a PR for me! And, I won 1st place in my age group (50-59) to my big surprise! Two years ago I ran this race and today I did it 1:42 faster, probably because I am 25…

Tough going....
So, I got on the scale this morning and it hasn't budged. So frustrating...... :grumble: Then I decided to get out my little notebook where I record weight and measurements on a periodic basis. In the last 3 years I have lost 37 pounds and 3-4" from each of my chest, waist and hips. Guess that I have still come quite a…

Ran my 1st Half Marathon
I ran my first half today. Did okay and just about made my goal of 2:15 - 2:15:58. It was a tough run because it was on a rail trail that was mostly gravel and hard dirt. That was a lot different than all my training on roads. I know I had to concentrate pretty hard so I didn't relax like I would have liked to. About 200…

New to this group
Hi. I'm 52 and have been running for 3 years. I run with my 16 yo son and sometimes with my husband. We just completed our first half marathon yesterday. It was okay - tough run on gravel/mud/packed dirt trails - and we all did pretty well for our first time. I find that running has helped immensely with being successful…

Good perspective
Kristin Armstrong's perspective on running really helps me. Hope it does others as well. http://milemarkers.runnersworld.com/2012/04/otherwise/

Clothes' sizes?
Just wondering if any of you ladies have noticed how the clothing sizes have changed over the years? 30 yrs ago I wore cotton dress pants to work (PE, Science, and Math teacher) and they were/are size 14. I still have them because they were great pants and I hoped to fit into them again someday - actually I can get into…

Runner's World Quote
I get the Runner's World Quote of the Day and thought this one was a good reminder: If you are a runner, it doesn't matter how far or how fast. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run. John…

So pleased
The scale is FINALLY moving!!!! It's been a long, slow process and I've lost 20 lbs in the last year which seemed so slow for all I was doing. But, for whatever reason, the last few weeks have been so encouraging as the weight is coming off faster. Maybe my body is adjusting and is now off that huge plateau. My…

4 1/2 months w/o "her"
So, I hadn't had my period for 4 1/2 months and hoped that I was done. But, no, "she" arrived again yesterday. (My hubby and I have always referred to my period as "Aunt Flo". "My aunt's here for a visit. ":grumble: "When is she leaving?") The nice thing is that a couple weeks ago my hot flashes almost disappeared. Not…

Runners - how do you record interval training calories?
I know doing intervals is a higher burn than just going an average pace but how do you record for accurate calories burned? Probably a HRM is my best bet?

Anyone else lose motivation when it's so cold?
We live in the northeast and when it gets this cold and windy (windchills at 15-20 below) I don't want to run outside. The treadmill is my only way to get in a run and I find it VERY hard to motivate myself to run on it. They gym isn't an option financially for me, either. I know I need to keep up my base (20-25 mi/week)…

Anyone else trying this way of figuring your calories?
I saw this post last week and have been trying to log my calories her way. Seems to be working better than what I was doing before. It sounds confusing at first but if you take it step by step, it's not so bad. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/409954-welcome-the-rules

BP Question
Has anyone noticed that their BP has gone up as they are going through menopause? Mine used to be quite low but has increased even though I'm eating healthier and exercising regularly. My dr said to just keep an eye on it (grocery store BP check stations) and let him know if it continues to be on the high side.

Long runs -----> faster short runs?
So, I decided to put in a short run on Saturday before our 2nd Thanksgiving dinner of the holiday. We have a nice 4.5 mile loop that is what we now call our "short" loop as our other loops are 6-7 miles. No one wanted to join me so I went on my own. I kept looking at my GPS because I thought it was stuck on an avg pace of…

So encouraging!
My 15 yo son runs with me 3-4 days a week and we are gradually building our mileage so that we can do a half in June and full in the fall. Last night he said to me, "Mom, we're doing 6 tomorrow morning, right?" Sometimes the start of a week he likes to do less but I was so encouraged by his thoughts to start the week with…

Just a funny thought
As my son and I were on our run today, I got to thinking about how my legs and upper body are in pretty good shape but my middle has that extra fat! From what I've read it's very typical for us in this time of our lives. So, in my mind, I dubbed it my MM - menopausal middle!!!!

NSV - trading out clothes!
My mom gave me some sweaters this weekend and they were either S's or M's. (She's quite a bit smaller than I am.) And they fit! :-) This morning I'm cleaning out those clothes that are now too big and donating them. Not planning on going back to the L's.

Once again....logging shoveling snow
Yet again I've logged shoveling snow in my exercise diary! At least it's good exercise! 8.5" and still snowing.

Hi
I'm a 50 yr old mom who homeschools so I'm around food all day! :ohwell: I've been using MFP for a couple weeks now and doing some regular exercise (Jillian Michaels DVDs) in the morning. I've got about 35 lbs to lose. When I was running during the summer I was doing okay and down about 10 lbs. After an injury, though, the…
