  • Huh - it seems like if the person were really struggling with an eating disorder, wouldn't they close their diary? But on another note, I'm very open with my friends about my struggle with ED, so when my calories drop low they're on me like white on rice! And I truly appreciate it. But then it's something that I'm open…
  • Feel free to add. I'm on MFP... well, if we're being honest, I'm on here way too much, haha.
  • Two days is way too short a time to worry. Are you weighing every day? I know people like different things, but I'd recommend cutting back to only weighing once a week. As was mentioned above, our bodies fluctuate on a daily basis, and weighing daily and trying to decide why a scale does or doesn't change on a day-to-day…
  • I'm all about moderation, and there's nothing really that I completely avoid. There are, however, some things I know I can't have in the house. Granola bars, of all things, are a no go for me. If I buy a box of granola bars they will be gone in a day. Things like the Fibre One Brownies also fall into that category for me.…
  • Awesome post. I'm a second year medical student and a HUGE part of why I'm on this journey is because I don't want to have to be a "cautionary tale" for my future patients. Rather, I want to be able to tell my patients that I've been in their shoes, and I know first hand how hard it is - but that I also know that they can…
  • I'm not familiar with that brand, but I use Hellman's Light and think it tastes pretty much exactly the same as the regular. Oh hey - I looked it up, and "Best Foods" and Hellman's are actually the same thing! It's just called "Best Foods" west of the Rocky's and Hellman's east of the Rocky's. You learn something new every…
  • I just do my best, and have a rule that I don't put anything in my mouth until it's been logged. I also use something I call the "olive oil" trick where at the end of a buffet or restaurant meal, if the calorie count seems a little too good to be true, I just log a tablespoon or two of olive oil. It's not ideal, but it…
  • That sounds delicious - question for you though. When you eat a part of an avocado, how do you keep the rest of the avocado fresh until you're ready to eat it? I'm enjoying two scrambled eggs with seasoned salt, a bowl of oatmeal, and a big iced coffee. Yum!
  • For me, hummus is great on my sandwiches because it also takes the place of cheese. I also use avocado sometimes, as an additional creamy sandwich topper. If you're ever missing mayo, however, there are some great options with only 35 calories per serving.
  • Definitely find a new physician, pronto.
  • Again - have you tried reaching out to your physician and saying you still don't feel well? Maybe I'm still steeped in med school optimism, but it seems like since you're feeling that terrible, you're doctor would want run some additional tests, whether thyroid related or otherwise.
  • First, let me wave a big "I'm Not a Doctor" flag here - I definitely don't want to give you medical advice. I'm a second year medical student so I know like... a teensy tiny little sliver of medicine. The BEST thing for you to do would be to ask your doctor if there's anything other tests that should be run. Whether or not…
  • I've suffered from Binge Eating Disorder for years and am proud to say that today is 70 days since my last binge. BED is such a bear, and I'm so happy to hear that you're working with a counselor. I know it can seem like slow going but that's definitely the right start. I've oscillated between anorexia and BED, and I truly…
  • I hear you on this - I'm a med student so a LOT of my time is spent studying. The fact of the matter is, we just have to be a lot more deliberate in our diet, and we have to make time to exercise. I obviously can't speak to your specific schedule, but I'll say that even though our school and study regimen is really…
  • I don't know if it's technically considered a "cheat" meal because I do still log everything and arrange my day and my work outs to stay under my calorie goal, but I do enjoy a special meal now and again! And you know - I previously thought the whole idea of giving your metabolism a jump was a myth but after last night, I…
  • I'm 28, single, and not interested in children today or any day. My general feeling on the subject: Feel free to add me!
  • Well, keep in mind that the majority of my classmates are 22 or 23 now! I'm sure at some point in their life their metabolism will catch up with them and then they'll have no idea what to do.
  • I can't tell you how much I want to share this thread with physicians! I'm about to start my second year of medical school, and I look around the classroom at the people who I spend every day with, and 90% of them have never been more that 3 or 4 pounds over weight in their life. Doctors often don't know how to address…
  • Oh my gosh - the internet is so freaky! Just a few minutes after posting this response, this is now my primary ad on MFP! The flavor of the syrup in the ad is even salted caramel! The bots know everything!!!
  • I can't help you with your knee, but there are some things you can do for the plantar fasciitis that might help you at least get to where you're not having to rely on the right knee so badly. Look online for PF stretches and do them religiously as often as you can, but at least right when you get up in the morning and…
  • I love making myself a big iced coffee with unsweetened almond milk and sugar free syrup. Earlier I had one with salted caramel syrup and it was delish! It clocks in at less than 20 calories and feels like such a treat in the middle of the day.
  • I did my first two months or so with basically no exercise, but as the pounds came off, I hated how MFP kept cutting my daily calorie goal! I realized that if I wanted to keep eating at the same daily deficit and still eat the same amount of food, I was going to have to start exercising. So I've started to ease into the…
  • Consumer Reports tested a bunch of multivitamins and basically said they were all the same, so to shop for price. The cheapest are the Costco brand (Kirkland Signature Daily Multi) so that's what I take. Consumer Report's article did specifically mention Whole Source Mature Adult (Rite Aid) and One Daily (The Vitamin…
  • I definitely know what you mean about letting "cheats" get to you. This will maybe make me sound insane but when I'm letting myself have a little treat, before I go into the restaurant, or while it's sitting on my plate - just at some point before it goes into my mouth - I stop and take a moment and say a little mantra in…
  • I personally thing NOTHING works quite like Spanx. There are products that are as thin but they don't control as well, and there are products that have as much control, but they're much thicker. They are expensive, but I fined them to be worth every penny. My primary issue is smoothing out bumps and lumps, though, so not…
  • I definitely feel your pain on this issue. I suffer with BED every day and am proud to be 43 days binge free! That may sound like nothing to some, but 43 days ago, going that long without a binge seemed impossible. First, if you're not already in counseling, I'd really recommend it. It's been really helpful to me to have a…
  • I'm 28 and I too would love to leave fat behind in my 20s!! I'll add you! :-)
  • Can medical students hang out too? We're all part of the same team!! I'm 28 and just finished my first year of med school. I'd love to have some friends who are also awesome health professionals!
  • My best friend has Grave's disease and had the radioactive iodine therapy to destroy her thyroid after years of struggling with her hyperactive thyroid. She did gain a small amount of weight (but keep in mind with prior to the treatment she'd had hypERthyroidism) but now she sees her doc regularly to keep her meds properly…
  • I lived in New York for seven year's but traded it in for the country life in Tennessee about three years ago. Don't miss it much but every now and then I long for good ol' Queens!
