  • I was just thinking of this today. I reached goal (or a bit below) in February. In the spring, I was hesitant to buy much--partly because I knew I wanted to gain a bit of weight back, and I just started a heavy lifting program. So when I saw winter clearance clothes, I didn't stock up as I otherwise would have. As summer…
  • I love my callouses too! Admittedly, sometimes when shaking hands with new people I self-consciously wonder if they notice; but generally, I just feel proud and strong when I feel them. (I also used to think my veins were gross; but once I learned that they reflect my low BF and lots of muscle, I just feel darn proud.)
  • I also don't know enough about leto -- or unique health risks associated with someone your size going on such a diet -- however, I'm generally an "eat everything" kind of person. I do tend to avoid starches and simple carbs, but mostly because I find I'm more satisfied by eating a TON of veggies instead. I agree with the…
  • bumping for ideas since I'm in the market too!
  • 43 years old 5.4.5" Maintaining at around 126 pounds 2300 calories per day Lifting heavy anywhere from 4-6 days per week, some form of cardio at least once per week (either something like a HIIT or a distance run--up to 11 miles this week)
  • I think it really just comes down to eating less/losing fat. I'm 43, 5'5" and lost weight to below my actual goal, with the plan of then building muscle. It's worked pretty well. At my lowest weight, a DEXA scan put me at 15% BF, and a BIA scale put me at 11% BF (on the same day). Since then--for about 7 months--I've been…
  • I'll take you seriously and just say that I typically assume that restaurants are a bit underestimated; but if it wasn't a typo when you said that Chipotle ends up being 70 calories over their estimate, that's not so bad. I was traveling for more than a week recently, and I just stayed under my goal by about 200 calories…
  • I had a good experience at Victoria's Secret. They actually ended up being the same as a specialty bra shop (where I only had them measure me because I'd save $5 on a bra if I did). Since they do measure over your clothes and current bra, maybe you're getting a wonky size from them due to the bulk of your current bra…
  • Definitely don't worry. My weight went up 11 pounds in 36 hours--I have no idea how or even where it was because while I felt all puffy, I didn't look it. Things leveled back out within a couple of days.
  • I definitely get the intimidation factor. I'm 5'5" and lost down to 119, where I was WAY too thin. (I have low body fat with decent muscle, so maybe I was smaller than others might be at that weight.) I started working with a trainer to gain more muscle/size, and it's been fantastic. If a trainer is a possibility for you,…
  • I would say that if you want to start do it. But I waited until I hit goal (or even under actually), and I'm glad I did. And my trainer is looking for my husband to get to at least 15%BF (or lower) before having him start lifting heavy. I think it's that your body will most efficiently build muscle in a calorie surplus.…
  • I was given some of this in a treat bag at Trader Joe's one Christmas for singing a Christmas carol karaoke-style over their intercom. Once I looked at the ingredients--and that it has almost as many calories as PB (without the health benefits), I left it for my husband to eat. ...super delicious though.
  • I don't have experience, but I just wanted to say good for you for looking to manage this through your lifestyle. Best of luck!
  • Kind of. But while I was losing, I only ate 3 meals--no snacking. Since reaching goal (or a bit under it), I've been working with a trainer on building muscle. He's awesome, and I've had great results. I pretty much do as he tells me. While he said that the world will not come to an end if you pack a few meals full of more…
  • It sounds like you might already be eating more than you think. I'm not a believer in the idea that you're not losing because you're not eating *enough*. Try cutting calories, and you'll probably lose the weight.
  • No. Google it. You'll find results saying things like: - A pound of muscle burns 6-10 calories, while a pound of fat burns 2-4. - 10 pounds of muscle burns 50 calories, while 10 pounds of fat burns 20 Not much more for muscle. The best way to increase burn is to move more.
  • I'm 43. I lost about 45 pounds by being really committed and diligent about logging. I've been maintaining for about six months, and I really have a healthy lifestyle. (I even happened to go full post-menopausal while I was losing, so don't let the idea age make you think this is harder--just eat less and move more, and it…
  • I lost 50 pounds about 10 years ago without logging before or after (managed to keep most of it off, and came to MFP and lost more while logging extremely diligently). So it's possible to stop logging--or never log in the first place--but I was just thinking this morning how logging actually makes my life easier anymore. I…
  • Fage plain full fat... 190 calories, I think 18g of protein and 10g fat
  • It's possible to keep it off. I lost 50 pounds about 11 years ago, and pretty much kept it off since then. I just got used to eating less and being more active. A few pounds started creeping back on, so I joined MFP a year ago. Since then, I lost almost 40 more pounds. I expect to keep it off too, other than intentional…
  • I used to hate tea, but I've been loving all of the flavors of Republic of Tea brand. And I LOVE roasted buckwheat (cooked like rice). So I'll definitely have to try it as tea!
  • Agree with this. You're basically eating at maintenance for someone your size. If you don't want to recalculate, maybe just drop by a couple hundred calories and see if things move after a few weeks.
  • Really excited to see how this develops!
  • I totally get it. I used a trainer a few years ago just a couple of times, and it seemed like some other trainers got used to seeing me. After a couple of years and getting a bit soft, I dreaded seeing my former trainer in particular, but really anyone. I received an email from a new trainer because I hadn't been the gym…
  • I put together a standing desk for my office several months ago, and LOVE it. So at least I'm up all day. (I also use a high quality anti-fatigue mat.) http://iamnotaprogrammer.com/Ikea-Standing-desk-for-22-dollars.html
  • I actually haven't done treats for goal weights. Rather, I treat myself for commitment--in terms of logging streaks. (And I mean seriously committed logging streaks, which is all I've had. If I had technically logged in every day but wasn't actually on plan, I wouldn't treat myself for such a streak.) My philosophy has…
  • I take a different approach than others. Unless I really want what's being offered, why eat it? I mean, I might enjoy the pizza, but if it's just a slice of pizza or a heaping bowl of broccoli with some lean meat and maybe a bit of pasta for probably half the calories, I'll choose the broccoli etc. or something like it…
  • I wouldn't log it while losing (or now), but I never ate back exercise calories anyway. Maybe bring an additional healthy snack in case you feel you need something to make up for some lost energy.
  • Very cool - congratulations!!
  • A lot of people at my gym do.
