I'm 5'10" and almost 40. Like many of the women who have already posted, I love love love being taller...NOW  (for many of the same reasons already mentioned...and it is so fun to look down on people who are being *****y AND I don't hesitate to wear heels either). I wouldn't change a thing...NOW. Back in my middle…

Height: 5'10" Starting Weight - 158 lbs (started MFP at the end of Jan. 2013) Current Weight - 144 lbs Goal weight - 135 lbs Exercise days (5x/week) - 1,800 to 2,000 cal/day No-exercise days - about 1,400 cal/day MFP dropped me to 1,270 after I lost that first 10 lbs, but I'm not following that and am still eating the…

I bought some organic unrefined coconut oil and keep forgetting to use it (for anything). I did use it recently to make a kale kiwi salad (sauteed everything in the coconut oil) and it was really tasty. If someone is bored, please post some of your best recipes using coconut oil...it would be so appreciated!

I recommend going to a specialist (allergy doc or gastro) for allergy testing. I just had my son tested for lactose intolerance by our allergy doc. They did one of the tests in the office (skin test) and not only tested for lactose intolerance but also gluten, corn, and several other things. Then, they sent us to the…

I've wondered the same thing...have been reading that you should do weights before cardio. Here is a link to nonscientific article that you can take or leave: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/06/cardio-or-weights-first-exercise-order_n_1739089.html.

Thanks for everyone's posts! I just realized there are like 50 pages on "heavy lifting" in MFP "archives." I hate searching though because every time I want to go back it makes me reenter the search. Such a pain. Anyways thanks again!

These sound awesome...thanks for sharing. Sounds like something my son would eat too. I'm always cooking for 2 households.

Oops forgot those stats! Height: 5' 10" BMI: 20.7 I sure don't feel like a 20.7 BMI. Thanks for the advice! I hate docs...but you're right I need to call and get elaboration.

pilates reformer 3-4 times/week (1 hour class)...good core work if you stay focused on engaging your core and breath throughout the class.

this! also, are you used to drinking diet soda? some people cannot tolerate the sweetener in diet sodas. just a thought...

Completely agree! I would add the following to Week 2 or create a separate week (or two or three): GET ORGANIZED!! Start collecting menus, recipes, get your shopping done, get your food prep done, get your cooking done so that you always have healthy options on hand. If you can't eat in, identify places that post…

I don't have any at home stretching resources but I highly recommend Pilates Reformer classes. I've been doing Pilates for almost 5 years. I was extremely inflexible before starting Pilates. I started it because of a knee injury. I'm still shocked at how much more flexible I am now. I had some more recent injuries that…

I had my first visit with my cardiologist today and she started me on a very low dose ACE-Inhibitor because my BP is normal to low and she doesn't want it to drop. She told me to drink a lot of water and monitor my BP at home. She said it will give my heart a boost and help with the high pulse rate. She told me to really…

Bicuspid aortic valve runs in my family. While it's a pretty common heart defect in the general population, my older sister who also has bicuspid aortic valve was also diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm 5 years ago. I have bicuspid but no aneurysm developing per the last check-up. We can't do heavy strength training. She…

Thanks! I've bumped it down from 170 to 150 because I just don't think I'm burning 170. Love love love Pilates but agree with you on it not being a calorie burner. And I love your ticker!!

Are you a perfectionist? I recognize some of your language as my own and I feel for you. I was on travel this week and fell off the wagon for a couple of hours in my hotel room. Had a bag of peanut M&Ms and a bag of microwavable popcorn after I'd already eaten my calories for the day...I was so pissed at myself! Well two…

I know your post is 2 years old...just wondering if you found the answer you were looking for. MFP indicates 170 cal burned for 60 minutes of Pilates. I don't do a lot of cardio in my PIlates reformer class but it is hard (i.e. lots of abs, arm/back strength training, etc.). I've just been plugging in the 170 but am…

For some reason my family never ate fresh pears. I finally tried a pear recently and they are amazing. They've got to be ripe though! Bosc pears are to die for... Favorite veggie right now - roasted sweet potatoes or sweet potato nachos.

I eat back my exercise calories most of the time because if I don't, I bonk during my workout the following day(s), especially if I'm doing strength training. I workout because it usually makes me feel refreshed, stronger, and empowered, so if my workouts suck I'm miserable. Under my MFP goals, I'm supposed to eat 1,340…

Tazo Zen (green tea with lemongrass and spearmint) - with a teaspoon of turbinado sugar or no sweetner. Also great iced!

Thanks for your post! You just explained my epic fail tonight. I made chicken breasts with a chipotle sauce. It called for sour cream and as usual I subbed with Fage 2% yogurt which I love. Guess I"d never used Fage in a sauce you have to cook. I blended it with the chipotle peppers, milk, and some chicken broth and then…

well i don't know if the "energy bites" i made using a recipe from the grocery delivery service I use qualify as healthy for you but here is the no-bake recipe: 1 cup rolled oats (I used quick cook) 2/3 cup toasted coconut flakes (I toasted the flakes in a 450 degree oven for a few minutes) 1/2 cup peanut butter (I use low…

I'm going up my calories too...someone already told me to do the same with protein levels. I'm always over on protein and to be honest often over on the fat intake. I'm not out eating ice cream every day but I guess my food is fatty. lol.
-
well that was easy...thanks for the quick response!

Enstroms Almond Toffee over the holidays...if you're a toffee kinda person DO NOT google it, don't order it, don't look at it. Everyone I've gifted it to became addicted. I will throttle anyone who gifts it to me next year.

I'm waiting to hit the plateau like you're describing. Sounds like it happens to a lot of people. I just don't know how to deal with it when you can't really exercise. (I've had to overcome an exercise plateau and change things up exercise wise like choosing different exercises, etc.) It does make sense you'd want to maybe…

I agree with the posts that have recommended putting your weight in your heels. Also push off with weight in your heels - get those glutes firing and accomplishing a good part of the push off. Be careful though not to hyper-extend. I've got a major bum knee (reconstructed ACL that is now impinged and multiple cartilage…

I hope someone answers your question!! So I've been trying to stick to my goal of 1,340 cal/day. Then if I exercise I "earn" whatever calories I burned exercising, which bumps up my goal caloric intake to 1,340 cal + let's say 500 cal (whatever I burned). I usually eat that 500 cal back because I don't want to bonk at the…

Forgot to ask why you're aiming for 1,200 cal if you're doing well at 1,600 cal and losing 2 lbs/week? I'm new to tracking caloric intake, etc. so don't know all the ins and outs of it. Someone told me to try to lose 1-2 lbs/week and no more than that. Sorry if that's a dumb question!
