• Agree! ON Chocolate and Vanilla taste great. I mostly use supplemental protein in either mango or chocolate/peanut butter smoothies. I'm always looking for products with fewer ingredients and ON Gold Standard 100% Whey (no artificial flavors or sweetners) is pretty good. Price has increased quite a bit though :o .
• Pilates reformer...at least 2x week.
• Both my son and I have asthma. There are times during the year that our asthma is worse than others. We both take our rescue inhalers 15-30 min. before the event (for him basketball and for me outdoor cycling) and then again during our exercise. I wouldn't be able to exercise sometimes if I didn't do the inhaler before…
• How's your commute by bike going so far? I biked to/from work at least one day a week most of the summer until the end of September. My commute is 19 miles one way and takes me about an hour and five minutes so I know what you mean about needing to wear the proper cycling clothes. I don't think I could bear to make the…
• Since it's cooled off, I've been craving soups and crock pot chilis. I make/blend my own soups with fresh veggies (i.e. sweet potatoes, carrots, onion and ginger) and sometimes pea soup (frozen peas), both of which are very affordable and so filling. I usually eat a grilled cheese with them. My crockpot chilis are cheap…
• Sorry if I'm duplicating (didn't have time to read all the posts). I don't know how many calories MFP is telling you to eat, hopefully more than 1,200 cal/day. I saw immediate results (within 2 weeks of starting MFP) just by doing the following: 1) stopped eating out 2) logged religiously on MFP what I was eating 3)…
• kettle corn and green chile hummus (not together!)
• Speaking to Pilates....I don't even think it really counts as cardio. Maybe parts of an advanced class...don't get me wrong I LOVE Pilates reformer and do it pretty religiously every week at least 2x. I took 18 months off one time out of a 6 yr period and I'm still shaking my head at that stupid decision. It has probably…
• MFP had me first at 1,370 then at 1270 cal/day. It was WAY TOO LOW. I am not the kind of person that can go hungry. I eat when I'm hungry because if I don't then I won't have a good workout. I upped my cal intake to 1,600 day and manually entered that into MFP. I probably need to up it to about 1,800 because I find that I…
•
They never gave you an official diagnosis? Did they do any imaging on your knee? Surely there is *some* paperwork you could request from your doctor that explains what the visit resulted in.
This. I'd go back and demand an MRI if you didn't already have one...are you in the U.S.? I'd also consider…
• i eat most if not all of mine back because i will bonk during my workouts. when i have hard workouts i'm ravenous and HAVE to eat the cals back. i also did not/do not want to lose muscle and I didn't want to lose too much weight too quickly (right now I'm at .5 lb/week) so eating back calories burned during exercise was…
• UPDATE ON THE BIKE FIT!! I got my bike back on July 18 after I put it in the shop to follow the recommendations that came out of the fit. I got a new saddle (the saddle that I had did not fit my sit bones AT ALL), handlebars (they were way too wide for my build), and new pedals. I rode 2.5 hours today and didn't feel a…
• I can't wait to try this with my new Polar ft-40. I'm new to commuting on my road bike to work - 39 miles R/T. Going to work the other day, my HRM said I burned 924 cal at the end of the ride. It was a tough ride. Forgot my asthma inhaler, slight head wind, etc. and I just had to overall work my butt off. Then that…
• P.S. I know you said you only eat at Subway or Chipotle once or twice a week but try to find out how many calories you're consuming with those meals. Chipotle has a nutrition tab on their website...not sure about Subway but I think they do too. One thing I learned when I first joined MFP was that the freaking Jimmy Johns…
• Great job on the running! I agree with the other posters - I would put A LOT more focus on what you're eating and track it like crazy...make tracking your #1 priority. Then start paying attention to any overages on calorie intake and figure out how to balance it out. If your honest with yourself, you should be able to tell…
• 5.5 lbs in 3 weeks - awesome! I was you six months ago. I turned 40 in June but started MFP at the end of January 2013. My goal was 140 by 40 and I barely made it. I lost weight from the beginning on MFP but had to adjust my numbers because MFP had me eating too few calories (I made that adjustment pretty early on using…
• what is VLCD? thanks!
• Forgot to add that my bike fit is going to be done at a sports medicine clinic not the specialized bike shop where I bought the bike.
• This! Sore sit bones have been the story of my life. I'm not exactly a beginner but peeps around here are hard core so I consider myself a newb. I'm finally getting a 3-D bike fit. It's not cheap but everyone tells me this is the way to go. If you have any medical conditions you may qualify for a medical bike fit which is…
• I'm all for reforming school lunches but it needs to be comprehensive and well thought out with a lot of parental/family involvement so that the kids, parents, and schools can work to being on the same page...not just "hey we're offering a salad bar now and no more Cokes kiddies!" There must be a massive marketing…
• totally THIS...it's so distracting  ! the cardio area in my gym is surrounded by a 200m track. if you're going to fart, can't you take it to the track please? and if you're 3 treadmills down from me and i can still smell your 4-day old sweat there's a prob. wash you're freaking clothes from time to time. yes gyms are…
• I'm 5'10" with a 36" inseam...all legs no torso. I haven't tried 30DS but I do have what I think are height-related struggles in Pilates...it took me several years to be able to do a proper teaser (I was over using my hip flexors to hold up my legs). One of my instructors told me that it was because I had longer levers…
• i add greek yogurt to my fruit smoothies (bananas, strawberries, blueberries with Optimum Nutrition all natural vanilla), which boosts the protein. i'm tempted to try some "green goddess" smoothies made with some veggies but haven't yet. do you live in a larger city? i live in a town of about 100K, and about 2 months…
• This and also try Coleman Natural Uncured Hickory Smoked Bacon...we eat a ton of both in my family. I think Applegate has less fat to begin with but haven't really compared the labels...just notice that I have to pour off much less fat with Applegate.
• I agree with this post on one thing - 650 cal/day is way way way too low. I personally think 1,200 cal/day is too low. I also think BMI is a pretty useless measure especially for competitive athletes. What kind of runner are you and what level? Are you in college? If yes, does the college have a sports medicine clinic you…
• Maybe I'm doing a hybrid of the mfp and TDEE...I have a very sedentary desk job so when calculating my TDEE I chose the sedentary category. I entered that calorie goal -5% into MFP. When I do exercise, I enter those calories burned jinto MFP and eat them back on top of the TDEE (sedentary) -5%. I've been exercising…
• I've slowly lost 18 lbs since starting on MFP in January 2013. I started doing TDEE -10% in early April and still lost about about 2 lbs since then...I'm aiming for very slow weight loss if any at all now. I just changed to TDEE -5% to see what happens. I'm slowly taking myself to just TDEE and maybe in the + zone because…
• No way no how does this work for me. Total abstinence sets me up for failure big time, but I've seen people it works for too.
• I have a major sweet tooth, especially after dinners, because I grew up always having dessert after lunch and dinner. Well I've had to really cut down on desserts (I haven't cut them out entirely). I keep a ton of fresh ripe fruit (bosc/bartlett pears, kiwi, strawberries, tangelos, and mango for example) in my house and…
• I'm in the same boat. Today with exercise my protein goal is in the 150s :noway: In fact, on days I actually I hit my protein goal, I feel like celebrating! I have been trying to eat lots of Greek yogurt and I just recently started making smoothies with Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Natural Whey (vanilla) and throw…
