I love the app for my iPhone! It's so easy to use and makes the running easier when you have the ding or voice telling you to run/walk. When I started the program I was dying during the 1 minute run. Now at week 8 {some wks I repeated} I am running for almost 3 miles:) Good luck and welcome to MFP!

I had the same problem when I started running. My trainer friend gave me some great stretches that helped. I also made sure to put my legs up and ice my shins after every run. My friend and I are on Day 3 of week 6. In the beginning we could barely make it through the minute runs. But we did it at our own pace and if we needed to do it longer that was ok. I use mine first thing in the morning before anyone else is up. I just wear the same t-shirt on weigh in day so it's consistent each time. I can't wait until my chubby Mii thins out;)
