Welp, better go starve myself! And I realize that yes, people thinner than I am wear 2s and 0s and 00s (and now J. Crew just introduced 000s, so dumb - JUST STOP VANITY SIZING), but if you think that a size 4 is "not skinny at all" then you have bigger issues to address. Good luck! And thanks everyone who responded in my…

Ha, I still remember looking at my mom in the dressing room and saying in bewilderment, "Well, if I wear a size 4, what size do the skinny people wear??"

I'm getting married in two months (eek!) and have lost about 7lbs of the 10lbs I wanted to lose. I'm hoping to lose the last 3, but I'm not stressing about it. I laid off the snacks between meals and picked up weights, which I worked into my typical cardio routine. Lifting has made a HUGE difference. I would definitely…

We're the same height, and two years ago I was about the same weight as you were (142). I have lost about 10 lbs since then (though half of that has come in the last six months). This is what I did: worked out consistently and cut back on a few things, mostly bread and alcohol. It was nothing drastic, and I did not expect…

MFP does take height & weight into consideration, but is also notorious for overestimating calorie burn which is why a lot of people recommend only eating back half your exercise calories. A heart rate monitor will give you a better idea for steady-state cardio, which might be helpful for you. Also, 4,445 calories seems…

Congratulations on taking control of your life! Some advice, though - start heavy lifting now. Why wait to hit your goal weight? You'll be able to gain muscle fairly quickly since you're new to lifting and it will help with the loose skin. Good luck and congrats again!

Increase intake of things besides fruit and veggies, which will not give you the calories you need. I second the post that suggested nut butters, protein powder and I'll add beans, which can have high calories. Try spreading peanut butter on your rice cakes and topping them with bananas or other fruit. It also might help…

Eat more. You should be netting AT LEAST 1200 calories a day. If you're eating 1200 and exercising 500, then your net is way to low.

Hi Brooke - I know it sounds scary, but you really need to reach out to a professional to discuss these issues. Your school's health center should be able to help and will be able point you in the right direction. The most important step is realizing you have a problem and wanting to get better, so way to go. Talking to a…

Unfortunately, spot exercises don't work, so there's nothing you can do specifically to shrink your belly fat. Some form of cardio and full-body weight training is the way to go (along with eating at a deficit). The best way I heard it explained was to imagine your body is a sponge. You can't squeeze water out of just a…

I typically calculate my overall pace and then use that calorie count. For example if I run/walk a mile in 15 min, I use the calorie burn for a 15 min/mile even if I ran a minute, then walked a minute the entire time.

Being in a relationship that's centered around food can definitely make it easier to gain weight, but the flip side is that if you can recruit your partner to join you in working out, it makes it that much easier to lose! See if you can get him to go to the gym with you, even if it's just once a week. It's more fun that…

Hi - I'll be 29 in July and lived in NYC for six years before I moved to Chicago last year! NYC makes it tough to cook for yourself because 1) kitchens are tiny and 2) there are so many amazing restaurants. I feel your pain. Fitness wise, I'm basically trying to lose a few lbs and tone up for my wedding in September. I'm a…

Dried beans are cheap, healthy and filling. Bulk frozen chicken breasts and bulk frozen veggies are also good options. Check out this blog: http://www.budgetbytes.com/. She's a nutritionist/blogger who creates cheap, healthy meals. She has some good recipes.
