  • I am doing it for the second time (the first time was a few years ago). It seems more difficult this time but I am determined to run a 5K with my 24 year old son on my 50th birthday in August. Like it was mentioned above, the biggest factor in your weight loss is the food/calories. Exercise should just supplement your…

  • I am just getting started with my new Surge. I just completed the setup and I am looking for motivation and accountability. Feel free to add me www.fitbit.com/user/4BYKS2 I have been challenged by my 23 year old son to run a 5K with him on my 50th birthday in August so I will be working on dropping weight and completing…
  • Started at 34.5 and now a 24.4. I am happy with how I look and feel. I am now running 5K's and feel so much better officiating high school sports. If I happen to drop a couple more pounds, I will be fine with it. I am more concerned with strengthening my core and working on my endurance.
  • Congratulations. Isn't that a great feeling?
  • I was forced to skip my run this morning due to an injury and it is killing me. I umpire baseball and I took a foul ball off the inside of my thigh yesterday that left me with a pretty good bruise and charlie horse. Hoping the discomfort goes away so I can get back out there and run in a day or two. Congratulations to…
  • Thanks for the feedback. I did my run this morning and it felt great compared to the last couple of afternoon runs. The pace was close to what I ran in the race last week. I think I will find a 5K race in September to help me stay motivated. I like the thought of varying my workouts so I don't get bored running the same…
  • I graduated a couple weeks ago and ran my first 5K this past Saturday but I am still putting in consistent workouts so I can run another 5K on September 7th. The friend that I ran the first 5K with wants to do a color run in October too so I have my goals to keep me motivated. Had my toughest run in a few weeks this…
  • Ran my first 5K race yesterday and finished in 28:30. I learned a lot about strategy (don't start way in the back - it takes a lot of effort to get around all the people that start out slow). I finished 11th in my age group out of 27 runners so that is an accomplishment in my eyes. I am already looking for my next race.
  • I graduated C25K last week and I have my first "official" 5K tomorrow morning. I have been running 5K workouts the past two weeks and have been between 9:20 - 9:30 per mile. My goal for tomorrow is to finish in the neighborhood of my best run so far of 28:55. By the way, I am a 46 year old with serious foot problems that…
  • Thanks for the feedback. I will keep it simple and hopefully beat my goal in the race. I will definitely come back here and post my results.
  • Today was my last "practice" run before my 5K on Saturday and it was a struggle. I got my 3.4 miles in but my pace was 10-15 seconds slower per mile than my last couple of runs. I am hoping that it is just a blip on the radar and that I will kick some serious tail on Saturday. Any tips, hints or suggestions on how to…
  • I will have to check that app out. Thanks.
  • Did a 3.5 mile run this morning in preparation for my first race on Saturday. It seems weird to not use the C25K app since I graduated last week but the Nike+ app is great for telling me the pace each mile. I will have to explore the app to see if there is a way to get reminders each half mile so I can make sure I am…
  • Let's see if I can answer these in the same order: I have bad feet and I was able to ease into running with the C25K. I just graduated last week and have my first "race" this Saturday. Just take it easy and listen to your body. I do not lift weights but I do some yoga to help me with the flexibility and specific muscle…
  • I am in no way an expert but I have been doing the family grocery shopping and meal planning for more than 20 years so I may be qualified to answer your question. I always look through the sale ads to see what is on sale and then design our meals around that. I will plan lunches based on what I seem to be in the mood for…
  • Congratulations of your first 5K and meeting your goal. I am getting a little nervous for mine this Saturday. Isn't it revealing that we can now say things like "I am planning to run again maybe tomorrow, but just an easy 2 miles"?
  • I ran a timed 5K this morning to prepare for my "race" next Saturday and did it in just under 29 minutes. I am sure with the adrenaline and excitement of the race that I will be able to come in under 30 minutes. I just have to get a good week worth of training in and then rest a bit before the race on Saturday and I will…
  • I have noticed a difference in my feet. I figure that it is a combination of losing nearly 70 pounds and the running. I didn't want to rip the soles out of my running shoes so I have been running without my orthotics. (Don't tell my podiatrist) I got extra wide running shoes and they felt "sloppy" at first but I haven't…
  • Thanks for all the great tips. I feel pretty confident going into it but there is always that little nagging voice in the background with the "what if" questions. I will be sure to post my results when I am done on the 3rd.
  • GRADUATED TODAY!!! W9D3 30 minute/3 mile run in the books. What a huge boost to my self-confidence. I will admit that I went into the C25K with the attitude of "If I finish it, I finish it. If not, oh well." But the further I got into the program, the more determined I became and the more confidence I built. BTW - I am a…
  • GRADUATED TODAY. W9D3 in the books with the third 30 minute/3 mile run in the books. This morning's run didn't feel as good as Wednesday's but I made up for it by stretching the workout a little longer to total 4 miles with the warm-up and cool-down walks included. Bring on the August 3rd 5K that I am registered for!!!!
  • Thanks everyone. I just hope my wife isn't upset with me for posting the "embarrassing" picture on here. LOL
  • You look great. Congratulations.
  • Congratulations. I am just wrapping up the C25K myself and have my first competitive run on August 3rd. I am just hoping not to embarrass myself out there. Keep up the good work.
  • What an awesome transformation. Congratulations.
  • Thank you everyone for your kind words. We are proud of our success and are looking forward to staying healthy and enjoying all that the "empty nest" has to offer.
  • I remember the day well when the scales showed that I had moved from obese to overweight. I think I checked it two or three times just to be sure. Now I will be in the "normal" range when I hit my goal weight. I am also hoping to get rid of some of my medications when I go for my annual physical next month. I have been…
  • W9D2 in the books. 3.9 miles in just over 40 minutes. Recorded my best mile at 9:14, and it was the third mile. I almost didn't run today because my foot was a little sore but I sucked it up and hit the road. Weather has cooled off considerably (it was about 50 degrees when I started) so maybe that helped too.
  • Sounds delicious. I will have to try it. I have been looking for some spicier meals to get out of the rut of eating bland food and this may just do the trick.
