New Rules of Lifting for Women! It's a great lifting program for beginners, easy to follow, and not overwhelming. I highly recommend it!

I love hiking for fun and fitness! I live next to a state park in Vermont that I visit about four times a week (when weather permits) for a short 3-ish mile hike before work. It's not super strenuous, but there is a nice incline, and I usually throw in some trail running. I do a longer, more strenuous hike about once a…

It's not uncommon to see the scale go up after recently starting a new lifting routine. My scale weight was up for about a month after starting lifting, despite the fact that I continued to eat at a deficit and maintain my normal cardio routine. It's likely just extra water weight that your muscles are holding onto as a…

You've probably seen that MFP does have BodyPump as an option under cardio exercises. I tend to modify the calorie burn that they project to be slightly lower (maybe 3/4 of what they suggest) just to be on the safe side, though.

Bruising can occur in deep tissue massages, especially if you happen to bruise easily. The question of whether or not you should file a complaint or ask for a refund should have more to do with how the therapist explained the treatment to you. Did he check in regarding pressure? Did you ask him to use less pressure and he…

5'7" CW: 160 GW: 148 The goal I really want to focus on solidifying over the next 90 days is doing at least 15 minutes of yoga five + times a week.

Sometimes challenging yourself with new goals or excercises can increase motivation and make things more fun. Maybe make a goal to reach a certain number of push-ups or squats a day by the new year or to not consume refined sugar from now until then (except for a couple of holiday cheats). For me, short term goals (when…

I struggle with a crazy busy schedule, too, and right now, going to the gym is just not a possibility for me. That having been said, you don't need a gym or an extensive routine to get your daily exercise in. Find a short and managable routine that works for you that you can squeeze in in the morning or after the kids go…

I think that moderation is the key here. I personally consume it, but not in excess (though I love cheese!). If dairy doesn't sit well with you or if you find you feel better without it, I would recommend coconut milk. It's good, low cal, and much more environmentally-sustainable than soy (GMO crops and rainforest…

I would be hesitant to recommend flavoring powders like crystal light, as the sugar substitutes used in such drinks are not necessarily very healthy when used regularly or in excess. If you like carbonated drinks, buy a water carbonator like SodaStream (or just buy carbonated water) and put a little splash of your favorite…

I do uncured bacon (no nitrites) and two eggs every morning. Sometimes I will scramble my eggs with kale or other vegetables leftover from dinner to switch things up a bit. I find that if I have a breakfast higher in protein and good fats and lower in carbs, I feel much more satisfied throughout the morning and am less…

I, too, am a fanatic. I discovered Trader Joe's variation a couple of months ago- it's AMAZING! It's got a little less of a kick than some other brands, but the flavor is phenomenal. I put it on my popcorn, on plain rice, on sandwiches- pretty much on everything within reason. Also, I agree with the above poster- crucial…

If you don't have access to gyms in hotels, do a quick search to see if there are any hiking trails around the places that you're visiting (alltrails.com). This is not just a good way to burn some calories, but it's a great way to really see the different landscapes of the US and spend time with your family!

Way to go!

So awesome. Keep it up!

Way to go! I've been doing a lot of hot/bikram yoga at my local studio, too. I find that taking a variety of different classes (if they are available to you) keeps you exploring new postures and forgotten muscles, plus it doesn't give your body a chance to get too comfortable with a set of postures and get lazy. For me,…
