  • Keep it up brother. And from experience, our scale is a 500 lb heavy duty package type scale and when I was 440, it fluctuated a LOT and it was hard to know what the real weight was. It was not till I got under 400 lbs that it started to be more consistent. And on Monday I was going to the doctor, so I weighted fully…
  • Consider most WLS patients are to eat less than 1,000 calories a day after surgery for a sustained period of time, it is entirely possible to eat less than 1200 a day and lose weight and not be malnourished (not saying the people on the show are not malnourished). I think the biggest reason it is not suggested for regular…
  • I have always been big. When I graduated from HS, I was about 240. Yes, I was overweight and yes, I should have lost weight, but part of it was a skewed view of others. The other guys were so thin. What I did not realize then was, I had matured faster and was already in my "adult" body, many of the other guys were still…
  • I do not typically listen to the docs advice either, but for this one I would. The pressure you would create would like rip out the stitches and that would hurt like a mutha. Plus you would have to get re-stitched. You should have just patched yourself up with duct tape and been done with it and you could have run by now.…
  • Yeah, I was really fine. I got up and walked around, called my wife and asked her to come get me. I knew my arm was broken, but was planning on her just driving me to the ER. They were worried about internal injuries or head trauma, but my helmet just had a slight scuff on it where it nicked the pavement. I know they were…
  • I wrecked my motorcycle 3 yrs ago, and I was not wearing any leathers. I shreaded my t-shirt and they cut it off at the scene once I was on the back board. I also broke my arm, so they would have had to cut me out of a jacket. In the ER (I was fine except for the broken arm), they cut me out of my jeans and unders. They…
  • Are you tracking your heart rate with a HRM? Or are you just going by perceived exertion? I am pretty sure you are raising the HR, maybe not as much as if you were on a cardio machine in the gym or if you were riding a real bike, but any movement is better than not doing anything and while it might not be helping your…
  • My Falcons did exactly as I hoped, they did not have a shot at Robinson, but they picked up Mathews and he should be able to provide some good protection for Ryan. Now, they have an early pick in Round 2, hopefully they can pick up a good rusher.
  • Falcons fan here. And I hope they get the best tackle available. I would like to see them get Mathews or Robinson, but if they are snatched up, Lewan would be good with me too. I really hope they do not mortgage the future to trade up to get Clowney. They have to do a better job of protecting Matt Ryan. It is great to sack…
  • Hot Hot Hot I have a major thing for redheads and even though I know if one would not be found attractive by the general population, I am still attracted. But a woman that is good looking blonde or brunette, is of scorching hot as a red head. And I do find them feistier and more passionate and I think that is part of the…
  • If the treadmill bothers your knees then don't do it. Causing yourself pain is only going to cause you to quit doing the workout. Keep the workouts as something you like to do and nothing that is causing you joint pain. I heard an Orthopedic surgeon speak not long ago and he said treadmills were the worst things in terms…
  • You would be more accurate if you had the chest strap. Partly because you can input more info into the watch or phone. And partly because it knows your HR constantly, not just the couple of times you grab the bar. Most of the calculation by the machine is taking your age and weight and perceived exertion on the treadmill…
  • Always take the lower to be safe. But HRM are not accurate when it comes to activities like lifting. They are meant for cardio type work.
  • I have no scientific study one way or the other and there is not likely a lot of information just due to finding suitable subjects. I think it is very difficult to do so. But if I recall correctly, there has been at least one contestant on the BL that gained muscle while losing all his weight. But the question becomes why…
  • I am no expert but I have always heard that the chest strap ones are the way to go. The watch only may be okay, but it is not going to be as good as a chest strap. I would not do it solely to track calorie burn as most of your calorie deficit is likely to be your BMR - your intake. But I think they are good if you are…
  • I was sort of in your boat. I also did not want to pay a monthly fee (like the BodyMedia product) and I wanted HRM. So I got the Polar H7 and have it hooked to my phone using the Polar Beat app from Polar. It works pretty well. It does not monitor sleep or those things, but my Samsung Note 3 has a pedometer and I am not…
  • I use an HIIT app and it had a preset of 45 sec high and 15 sec rest for 12 rounds and it was listed as fat burning. I do 3 mins warm up set the treadmill to the highest I can do 12 rounds of and jog for 45 and rest (stand on the sides) for 15. I do 12 rounds of that. The first 2-3 rounds I could go harder, but it gets my…
  • Compromise, walk the faster pace for an hour, best of both worlds and will help you lose even faster.
  • Well it can also help you ensure you are getting the most efficient workout. That you are recovering well. And that you are not over training or under training.
  • Do you belong to a gym now? If so do they have a similar machine? Try it again and see where you are (without the wonky knee).
  • Using the details you provided, this website (just the first one that came up with the search) http://www.shapesense.com/fitness-exercise/calculators/heart-rate-based-calorie-burn-calculator.aspx gives a number of 431 calories during that duration with that average HR. So, I would look at the numbers you entered when you…
  • Assuming those pics are recent, then no, just tone up what you have and build some muscle.
  • Seems a bit high to me, but it is mainly where you got and kept your heart rate. Does your new HRM show you your average HR? What about how long you were in a particular zone? Google HR to calories and you can enter that information to see how close the HRM calculation was.
  • Mine started hurting like that and I was diagnosed with plantar facitis. I have to put inserts in my shoes and it helps dramatically. I use Super Feet (as recommended by my podiatrist). You can find them online, but I would suggest going to see a foot doctor to get a good idea of what might be causing the pain.
  • But between 16 and 18, your body is changing and filling out and you are gaining your "adult" body. So those that had thin faces as a young person may not once they become an adult. I still think working on weights is where you should focus, not so much on a calorie deficit. An 18 yr old needs a certain amount of calories…
  • If you are 18, and 5'8" and 147, I doubt you have much fat. I would suggest using weights and build and tone the muscle. Work on your abs and other large muscle groups, but I doubt there is much fat to burn.
