That is really impressive that you resisted! I always enjoy a glass of wine when I cook a proper meal. But a glass while cooking, a glass during dinner, and then I will want another after dinner... that was my bad habit before I started really cutting back through this group and these challenges. I still find it really…

Awww... thanks! I still try but I admit I’ve grown a little weary...

Checking in! Ended Jan as I predicted with 12 AF days. so far in Feb 3/6 days AF after superbowl weekend (YEAH CHIEFS!) and a mid week Blues game, another one coming up on Saturday! This is a great sports week for me! I also had a planned work trip get cancelled so Feb isn’t shaping up to have too many non-standard events.…

Seriously? Sorry the conversation shifted and you felt like we were talking past you. Nony and I are old friends on here and I got the sense she was following your intent better than I was. Sounds like you’ve got it figured out. Good luck.

I think she is wanting to set her MFP goal at 1746? This is what I’m confused about. Sometimes I think too many data points can be overwhelming and I think that may be what happened here. I recommend letting MFP set the goal based on current stats and a 1lb/week loss. She wants to go with sedentary and with the FitBit and…
-
Why are you trying to customize your goal based on one day’s number from FitBit? MFP will give you a baseline starting point. What does it tell you if you select 1lb/week and sedentary? What about 1 lb/week and lightly active? If you choose one of those and have it synced with FitBit you’ll still get the benefit of the…

Personally my recommendation is to change your activity level to lightly active, select 1 lb/week rate of loss, and let MFP calculate the calorie target, and still eat back all the calories. Also the 1 lb/week goal would only be for a little bit longer, under 20 lbs to lose you should be expecting about 0.5 lb/week. So…

I think she said her total yesterday was 1926 and she subtracted 180 (but I wasn’t sure where that came from) because she though that was the exercise portion of the 1926.
-
Where did you get the 1746 figure from? Again, you don’t take the deficit from BMR. You take it from your TDEE. The total amount of calories you burn including just being alive (BMR), plus daily actors (= NEAT) + purposeful exercise = TDEE or total daily energy expenditure. BMR is the amount of calories your body needs to…

A moderator on FitBit but was it specific to how to use MFP and FitBit together? What is your typical step count, when you aren’t sick? Some people like leaving themselves at sedentary. Regardless of what activity level you choose, MFP and FitBit sync up all day long. Also after you’ve been doing this for a while, you get…

What do you mean it gives you too many calories until it’s too late? I didn’t say that, are you misinterpreting my screen shot? The adjustments move around all day. They are an estimate of how much you’ll burn by the end of the day based on the activity you’ve had. It’s also advisable to enable negative calorie adjustments…

Have you started menopause already? If not you are pre-menopausal...

Yeah I was going to say the same. FitBit and MFP really do most of the math if you know where to look and how to interpret it. In case you’re curious OP you can go into your diary and under exercise you can click in and see how the adjustment is calculated . Here is mine from yesterday. The number on the bottom shows what…

That is important information to share, yes, and helps mitigate significantly undereating. What it doesn’t address is if 1200 is the right goal for you in the first place. Its good you are eating back some of those exercise cals, but if you don’t mind sharing - how much weight are you trying to lose, and what rate of loss…
-
FitBit is an activity tracker, and for many of us, a darned accurate one. It estimates your total calories burned from all activity, NEAT and purposeful exercise alike. This is an estimate of your TDEE and if you have it synced with MFP and are seeing large adjustments, it’s an indication that you are more active and…

Maybe spend more time in the motivation/support section, and the success stories section. Some people find a lot of inspiration in there and there’s usually lots of cheerleading. I truly am sorry you’re struggling with your weight loss but I just fail to see how asking me to depart from my natural communication style of…

Have you posted this rant on your personal feed? Have you tried reaching out to the people who gave advice to tell them that’s not the response you were looking for? Have you defriended the ones you feel are most egregious in their “tough love/no empathy”? Bringing your complaints over here and not clarifying up front that…

Humans are “basically” mammals? Hmmm... Sorry you’re feeling rubbish. I have a sick kid and husband right now too. It’s no fun. You need to take care of yourself and all of them, stay hydrated, eat what you feel like - in my experience CICO tends to take care of itself when you’re not feeling well and you can get back on…

I’m another who usually knows when those overages are likely to occur because they may be planned social outings or special events. I bank calories leading up to those but just as normal practice I usually eat a little under goal during the week and then higher on the weekend looking at my overall calories for the week. I…

Hi all, checking in toward month end. Not my best month numbers wise, but got back up to double digits AF which was my goal. 12 for the month. Book club tonight so that 12 is probably my final month tally. Feb weekend kickoff with my Chiefs in the Superbowl - I'm headed to KC to hang with my adult siblings and watch the…

Why are carbs to be avoided later in the day? What do you think happens it you consume them? And what’s magical about protein before bed if you are lifting?
-
You mean you accidentally are using this program the way it was designed to be used? What did you think you were “earning those calories from exercise for?”
-
Or... don’t follow a plan that is so restrictive that you feel overwhelmed and discouraged in the first place. Many successful people eat all the foods they enjoy, fitting them in their calories, without ever feeling like a “cheat” is necessary.

It’s always amazing to me how demonized pizza js on here. Not only are the calories manageable if you limit to a couple slices, it can have a decent distribution of macros as well, depending on toppings.

Another vote for air fryer. I just tried making salmon in mine the other night and this is how it turned out. Prior to getting one I used to sear in cast iron skillet and then finish in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes.

Perhaps if you didn’t view pizza as some forbidden food to feel guilty about, you wouldn’t even need to eat a medium pizza in order to feel satiated. I often eat 2-3 pieces, with a salad, and some wine, and still stay within my calories for the week.

I finally racked up some consecutive AF days This week. Currently sitting at 7 AF and 9 A for the month. With some of the other events - work and social I have for the remainder of the month I’m aiming for 12 AF. Weekend plans - have a dinner party tonight and nervously watching football on Sunday, Go Chiefs!

Because that’s how MFP is designed? The calorie deficit is built in with the presumption of no exercise. If you do exercise, you are creating an unnecessarily large deficit which can have adverse effects. Also, calories fuel the exercise...

So if you feel it’s accurate then why wouldn’t you eat them back? How do you know it’s activate if you aren’t factoring those calories burned into your data points?
