  • I have only run one half marathon (a few weeks ago), but I will still run in 5k and 10k races. I have signed up for a 10 mile race next year, never ran in a 10 miler before! I would like to say that I would not pay, however, for a 5k race, I run parkruns for that distance and they are free events in the UK.
  • Well done on trying it out on your own in the end OP, that must have been beyond disappoingting for you when they didn't show up :( Out of interest, did you ever find out why they didn't turn up?
  • OP that training for the marathon Plan you mentioned is for a novice, you are not actually a novice, you have already ran a half marathon and have been training for seven to eight months. Granted, you are not an advanced runner, but you are definitely not a beginner. Keep training, there is no point whatsoever in just…
  • Ironically, the following happened to me just over a week ago: I promised my eldest daughter than I would take her along to do her first parkrun event on the Saturday. Come the Friday the day before, I felt that familiar tickle in my throat and said to my hubby "I am getting a cold". Wake up Saturday morning and there it…
  • I don't do weights but if I did, I would clean them with either kitchen wipes or detergent spray and wipe thoroughly. I do, however, own an HRM and this is how I care for it: I rinse the strap thoroughly after every use, under running cold water. Every fifth use, I put it in the washing machine and wash it on a 30 degrees…
  • No rest days can equal overtraining and in turn injury and those same injuries will put you out of action for far longer than if you have taken your rest days. You may be okay and be training every single day for a few months and then one day, "it" will appear, that overtraining injury. They are a pain in the butt,…
  • Holland and Barratt were the only shop that stocked Chia Seeds around my area and THAT is a good enough reason for me to like the place! :D
  • How did you get on OP, was all okay in your HM?
  • I only found out about Bodyglide a few months back, it has turned out to be an absolutely excellent product. I was getting chaffing and scarring from my HRM strap, Bodyglide stopped all that and during my last half marathon, I didn't even have one tiny red mark from the strap and I had been sweating during the race quite a…

  • I have a 5k PB time of 25:34, a 10k PB of 56:33 and a few weeks back, I completed my first half marathon in a time of 2:08.33. I am finding I am getting a little addicted to the longer runs now, I will definitely be entering more half marathons next year and I might even attempt a 15 miler if I can find one  I do…
  • OP go to your doctor, because the moment you ask for medical advice on a forum full of strangers, you tend to get answers such as the ridiculous one I have just quoted above.
  • I have had the Polar FT4 for nearly two years now, love it. To use it as an HRM, you need to wear the strap too with the receiver on it, it all comes in one package when you purchase it.
  • He means, what surface are you running on and what is the temperature of the surface? The burning sensation, unless you are running along surfaces that tend to get incredibly hot, will not affect the soles of your trainers. The burning in your feet is more than likely attributable to other factors, size of trainers being…
  • I would bet that you start out too fast. Keep this quote in your head as you set off for a run: "Start running, slow down and then when I have slowed down, slow down some more" The above is what you start off at, after a few weeks, you will immediately know the pace you can comfortably run at.
  • If there is one thing that is definite concerning running, it is that you cannot continually improve day in day out indefinitely, it does not happen, if it did we would all be world record holders and be able to run for indefinite periods of time. Run your fifteen minutes walk for a couple of minutes and then run for…
  • I trust you are mucking about. However, on the offchance you are being serious here, I say to you - don't be so bloody ridiculous, no boss in his or her right mind would sack somebody for that
  • In answer to your question re would it be okay to just throw it in the trash, no it would not. It is also their place of work too, throw their food in the bin and I think you will find yourself in deep trouble. How you get your water is not their problem either, it is yours.
  • I just read that article, her death seems to be due to her banging her head when she fell. Going by her words when she was alive, she always intended to run until she dropped basically, right to the end of her life. Inspirational indeed!
  • They sound as if they are all up their own arses to be honest. If they think what you said was racist (and for the life of me I cannot see where the hell they are talking about as your comment being racist), I would hate to see how they fare in the real world, out there where there really IS some nasty stuff said and…
  • I have just about heard it all now. Just say goodbye to your friend, wish them all the best and then crack on with your own morals. Morals over pastry???? I can think of a sight worse things than sweets and pastry believe me.
  • I will be honest OP, when I first saw your opening post, I thought to myself "how the hell can she be burning that amount, she is heavily over-estimating!!!" However, seeing as to how high you are keeping your heartrate there for the whole session and how tough you have the level on that bike set at, I have changed my…
  • Cats gets fleas all the time if they go outside, they usually catch them from other cats. It only take a deflea once per month, a little drop of "de-flea" on the back of their necks and all will be well.
  • All well and good if you know exactly what your TDEE is. What happens if your day-to-day life is never the same two days running? How can you be sure you have the correct TDEE level for you?
  • I only discovered gels during the last five or six weeks, I have found them invaluable. Took a little getting used to the taste of the stuff though lol.
  • What race you got lined up OP?
  • How did you do OP, did you run a 10k in the end?
  • Unfortunately, the OP did say further back that insurance did not cover that condition in her dog :(
  • OP my own opinion is that nothing in running distances should be rushed, build up slowly and gradually, give yourself a good foundation, if you don't your whole house will tumble and you could be back to worse than square one. I have only just completed my first half marathon (two weeks ago) after training for eighteen…
  • Well they probably would never expect to have to pay that amount for crying out loud!! And believe it or not, yes people do indeed have kids when they cannot afford it, but that is not what you are doing presumably because you sound as though you have tons and tons and tons of dosh, so this doesn't apply to you does it…
  • Most likely a packet of jaffa cakes, all 12 of them.
