I have a HRM and so I think I'm estimating my exercise pretty well (maybe 100 cals or so either way over a full day). I'm not having trouble with cravings (except TOM). I think my average net calories is about 800, though.
-
title should be "max amount of cals you will allow yourself to undereat?

sweet potatoes with a little brown sugar, garlic powder, and chipotle chile powder on them. dang. they are heaven. also mochi and trader joe's giant white beans.

I went to this awesome workshop on "mindfulness in education" today at a meditation center. now i'm wondering if anyone does meditation/yoga/mindfulness stuff with their kids (of any age). it was an illuminating workshop. i learned i'm not very mindful as a general practice. ha. i squirm around too much and complain in my…

Do digital stories! They can use all of the above to do a slide show illustration with a voice-over on pretty much any topic you choose. look up digital stories for more info. I can email you some of the materials i use if you want.

So...freshman year of college, living in the dorm. A few of us were going to look at a house to rent and needed to borrow our friend's car to get to the appointment. I was the only one that had driven jessie's car before. "A blue sentra, right?" "Yeah, it's in the big lot. on the east side somewhere. you'll have to look…

There are several good ones with chest straps that run about $75-$100. Still expensive, but a third of the cost. Polar ft4 or ft7 are good.
-
It's absolutely delicious. A little olive oil, salt, and whipped cream if you just want to go for broke. Confessions? Real confessions, father? Uh... I accidentally stole a car once? ;)
-
I put olive oil on chocolate ice cream...

Oooh, that's a good idea. I think a simple HRM is a good idea because it tracks your specific calorie burn more accurately than a website, but gMaps pedometer is a very simple tool to track the distance you run and you don't have to sign up or anything: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/

Yes, Polar makes one, Garmin does one, and so does Timex. They're not cheap. They run about $220- $350. http://www.sportsbasement.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=90036625-09!Polar http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpage-TIGPSHRM.html…

That's so fascinating. Basal body temp is an indicator of a LOT. Many women know that your basal temp is an extremely accurate way to tell if you're currently ovulating, and persistently low basal temp can be an indicator of hypothyroidism. Good to know!

That sounds tasty! I need a crock pot. Do they use a lot of energy?

I was doing better with food in the room. I've kept organic peanut butter in my desk for the last couple of weeks and then I find something to eat it with and that = lunch. Celery, banana or apple. Unfortunately, I caught a mouse in my room yesterday. Put it in a plastic jar where it distracted the bejeezus out of my…

Yay, payday!

It looks like you exercise like a fiend, so make sure you're eating enough to support that. You're eating a lot of protein and processed food; I would probably say track your sodium intake on your diary just to make sure. Your portions look great. You will definitely lose weight with all the exercising you're doing, but…

Ooh, my hat's off to you. I really have no idea what to do with little kids. Cool, I agree! Glad so many teachers found it!
-
This is a truly wonderful post. You're absolutely right that language creates our reality, and what we choose to call something very much affects what it means to us. No more Cheat Days!
-
You're NOT talking nutritionally? What, may I ask, are you talking about?
-
ArmyWife, what a nice thing to say! I ALWAYS feel like I can't do enough for the kids and it's nice when parents are appreciative. That means a lot.

You (and others who have said the same) make a good point. It's really all about portion control. The original idea of the thread was for those things that do seem healthy but are very high in calories or sodium. It really was the Mission street burritos that shocked me. Here I was thinking, "It's a tortilla full of…

was it cancun? or el farolito?

fruit juice! if i have fruit juice now, it always has a handful of spinach or kale thrown in. it's too sweet, anyway.
-
Is this a money/class question? I'm hijacking my own thread, but it's interesting. Here in the Bay, there's no shortage of delicious, healthy restaurants that serve clean food-- for a price. The high end is of course places like French LAundry and Chez Panisse, etc. and Berkeley has a number of mid-range restaurants with…

HAHA Shawnalee. Oops. Okay, so I should basically be measuring where my jeans sit and my entire backside. excellent. also, what other body measurements do folks take?
