Yeah, I know there are a ton of misleading stats on both sides. That's why I don't like getting into statistic fights! The only completely true stat is that more guns=more gun deaths. Who/why/where/could it have been prevented? is pretty constantly up for debate.
-
Grin. I know better than to get into a statistics fight with a 2A/gun person. America's known for "fake news" for a reason. But the thing that comes through here is how terrified gun people are of their daily lives... "seconds to be victimized or killed..." "rape, murder, and assault..." I just don't get it. I grew up in…

Nah, it's just that although some statistics are a little fuzzy, she's probably much more likely to hurt herself, hit someone close to her, or let the weapon fall into the hands of a child than to prevent rape or murder by carrying. But someone said it above-- mace isn't "cool." And look at all the posters who think OP is…

Thanks for the info, Melanie and CB. Melanie, your info gives me hope that he can beat this without drugs. CB, if you don't mind my asking, how did you find out you had high cholesterol? How much did your numbers drop when you took a statin?

Yeah, seems likely it's FH. He's Jewish and there's some history w/ family (though not, like, EVERYONE). We're on an HMO and our docs don't really do much besides send us noncommittal emails and have five minute convos. The doc said to give it three months of diet and exercise and he'll check him again.
-
Is it worth trying, though, until his 3-month re-test? His doctor didn't seem overly concerned, but my understanding is that that is a very high level.

How many oz in the whole package? You can estimate based on the package size, like if the whole package is 8 oz then 2 oz would be 1/4 of the package. Many soba brands have the noodles separated in little serving-size bunches with a little paper or plastic strip around them-- I take it yours doesn't have that?

Commiserating here as well. Map My Fitness has gotten so much better, but MFP still takes the cake on food tracking (pun intended).
-
I'll start. 1. 29 2. Pear all the way 3. Diet has made more of a difference, but exercise is turning my shape into more of an hourglass. (fingers crossed)

Add me if you're my twin! 5'4" Age 29 CW 149 GW 130 or less

Ugh. Mine isn't over til June 17th.

4-day weekend starts tomorrow. My district has this holiday called, "In Lieu of Lincoln's Day." Weird.
-
Well, I gained two pounds after 42 days of being extremely careful and then four days of serious exercise and serious eating. I was still tracking those last four days, but I hiked a lot (about 1000-1500 cals burned a day, acc. to HRM), and, well, it was spring break and I was in Arizona. I ate salty Mexican food like my…

I totally hear you about "lost for words." I felt exactly like that when I was done. I'm actually impressed you stuck with it-- I read it out of necessity/boredom as it was one of the only English-language books around. Yeah, the ethno-centrism (which I think is kind of a euphemism, actually) was pretty harsh and…

This is a fascinating graphic of the federal budget. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/02/01/us/budget.html Look at the education budget. Then mouse over it to see how much of that is "Elementary, Secondary, and Vocational Education." Compare that visually to our defense budget or even, say, the budget for border…

Let me know what you think. I'm not exactly recommending it-- it was one of the weirder things I've read... but it was, erm, effective.

What an awesome success! Especially making it a lifestyle and keeping it off! I almost never post in the success threads but you inspired me!
-
Interesting-- we're the same height and weight (almost-- I'm at 150)
-
I have added protein shakes, but not as a routine. I drink them once in a while after a particularly tough workout, but otherwise just drink a glass of milk or eat a little granola and yogurt.
-
I'm still going! I need some other peeps to tell me I'm not the only one!! ;) I'm starting to feel a little silly for not weighing...
-
You AND your little one look fabulous! Congratulations, mama!
-
Wow. You look fabulous! Thanks for sharing!

I really feel like the scale motivates me positively... not, "You better not eat that because the SCALE will get you," but "Hey, look, the scale moved! I'm doing the right thing for my body and I should do it more!" I KNOW the right way to treat my body. I'm very capable of doing it, too. I track and I exercise every…

Yeah... the curse of the athletic thighs!! Thanks, jeans manufacturers, for reminding me all the time that women should have little bitty thighs.... I kid. I'm 5'5" and started at 168 (162 with MFP), I'm at about 150 now, trying for 130 but I'm not sure how possible that is-- I was 140-145 when I was running three…

I miss Oregon. But.. maybe I'll get to go back there. I just got a pink slip! Damn budget cuts.
-
Arrrgh! Our spring break doesn't start until APRIL 18. Groan. Last year it was the last week in March. I'm dying.
-
I haven't weighed myself... but I'm being bad. I'm eating lots of sugar, and not much else. I exercise a lot, so even with the sugar I'm staying under, but I just don't feel good. I need to give up chocolate for the rest of Lent, too, I think. Who else is chocolate-free til Easter?
-
It doesn't look as though you've really got a lot to lose, so probably 1 lb or less a week is a more realistic goal for you.. It's possible that the early weight loss included water loss... Don't get discouraged, running is good for you and WILL pay off.
-
Okay, okay. After reading the other posts, I'll bow to the Catholics and stick with it til Easter Sunday. Damn it's gonna be hard!
-
I'm in-- but out in 40 days, on Palm Sunday. Starting weight 151!
