  • I've heard of adding a potato to the soup, but I think that's for salt. Yes, I'm a heavy hand with black pepper. Some day they'll tell us it's bad for us or good for us. I've never heard anything one way or the other.
  • I agree with DeeDee that learning new information and approaching health and fitness from many perspectives is a good thing. Talking about this topic makes me wonder about it and think how I deal with it. The water issue is relevant, as not everyone wants or needs so much water per day, while others seem to need a lot…
  • I agree with this - drink when you feel like it. I happen to feel like it a lot and probably drink the 8 glasses per day, whether it is in water, tea, or broth in soup. I may even drink more. But as a diabetic, I am frequently very thirsty and keep water nearby at all times. Whenever I go for a drive or a walk, I am sure…
  • I'm 56, just 2 months away from 57, and I definitely jiggle more than ever! I think the shrinkage concept is accurate, as I'm already nearly two inches shorter than I used to be. Now I'm taking calcium and vitamin D and laying off the diet sodas, not more than one a week. I can attest to strength training, though, because…
  • I try to log everything but generally take one day off a week from logging. I try not to sit at the computer too long, as it slows my momentum, which is very important for me to keep. Anyway, I usually add the mustard, mayo, whatever I'm putting on my sandwich, even the lettuce, etc., because I want to keep track of all my…
  • My exercise goal is just to get out there and exercise. I am the laziest human being on earth, at least sometimes it seems that way. I always come up with an excuse. Too many people at the gym, not enough people at the gym, too early, too late, too cold, too hot..... you get the picture. So to get out and walk three times…
  • I like 1% lowfat cottage cheese with fresh or frozen unsweetened fruit added, plus cinnamon. The nutmeg would be interesting, too. When you use a cup of frozen fruit (like Wyler's Wild Maine Blueberries, fantastic!) you are adding very little in the way of carbs and calories and getting a lot of protein with the cottage…
  • Try microwave steaming the cauliflower instead of boiling it. Just rinse broken apart cauliflower in a strainer, shake off the excess water, and then steam in the microwave in a covered dish. That eliminates the excess water and keeps all the vitamins in. Try mixing a little lowfat cottage cheese in it along with the…
  • Activia light in the little containers, very satisfying yogurt that's good for the digestion, too. apple carrot sticks cinnamon raisin bread, 1 slice toasted nonfat milk almond milk, unsweetened soy milk, unsweetened vanilla cheese stick 2 clementines 1 orange 1 banana these are all around 100 calories, not exact
  • South Portland, Maine, where it's going to pour like crazy today.
  • I have a digital scale with a big readout, and the name on the scale is THINNER (positive thinking, perhaps?) I have to weigh myself several times, every time, because it's never the same three times in a row. So I take the number that is repeated most often. I have made the mistake of not doing that, just taking the first…
  • Sounds yummy! I like the other idea comments posted, too.
  • Ditto! Great to keep track. You're really working it!
  • That's great that you're getting yourself a treadmill. I live in Maine, so it gets cold and icy, too, treacherous under foot. I'm lucky to live just a few blocks from a Snap Fitness, where I have a membership. Now to get me there is another story....
  • The fact that you commented on the message board topic will appear on your home page and your profile. You can go back in history, so to speak, to find it again easily. Or you can go straight to the message board and look for it. Another way is to make friends with the leader and several others and you will see that…
  • I've grown stevia and just powdered the dry leaves into a jar. Is that how you do it? It's much less powerful as a sweetener than the stevia in the packets, which is a concentrate that I have no idea how they make. But the powder from the dried leaves is gently sweet.

  • Fabulous! That's me 112 pounds from now!
  • This sounds like a great idea, but I share others' fear of boiling in plastic, even freezer plastic. Omelets won't stick to the pan if you let them cook undisturbed until they slide independently when you lightly shake the pan. Also, I cover my omelet so the top can cook, too. But this sounds like a great way to make a…
  • Jillian is a POWERHOUSE. She's tough love!
  • I hear you. Forget about August for the time being. Focus on just today. You can do it just today. Give the cake away if you have any left. Just that act alone will be empowering. You can do this!

  • The small chili and a side salad at Wendy's is great for you and your pocketbook. I only know of MacDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King, haven't gone to the others, but I know each has a salad option with low fat dressing options and they also have grilled chicken options. For nutritional value you can't beat a salad with…
  • I just looked up the chart you mentioned and it's very helpful. I've added it to my favorites bar so I can quickly refer to it when tracking my exercise calories. Thanks!:flowerforyou:
  • Yes, I would definitely count it. In fact, I wish our exercise list to choose from contained a comprehensive list of household and yardwork chores.
  • I like the Teddy unsalted natural peanut butter on a nice whole grain bread. The cottage cheese idea is great because you can mix fresh fruit or chopped veggies with it.
  • but only privately, to themselves, a reference snickered to each other as they wave her goodbye from their front porch.
  • Wow! Sounds awesome. I welcome any low sugar popsicle recipes, because popsicles are my favorite treat.
