  • Just keep moving forward. Don't stress about yesterday's calories or productivity. Yesterday is in the past and all we can control is the present. I never fully deprive myself, I make choices daily and sometimes they're not the best. I try to exercise a bit more when I do make the wrong choice. I've been using MFP since…
  • I totally agree... you've got an open door to be able to do something quite nice and brighten someone's day. I think anonymity would be a bit weird if I were the recipient. It would drive me bonkers trying to find out where they came from, but to know a neighbor appreciates me would make me feel quite right.
  • it's my opinion that guilt should actually BURN calories!! any scientific evidence? :)
  • please do not forget that you are building muscle under there, and muscle does weigh more than fat so "loss" will be slower... it took me a year to lose all the weight I've lost. and I'm not at my goal yet!! don't cry, don't quit!
  • i have a coworker who does the same thing. her mom, too, was a nutritionist and she (and her mother) are "super obese" and both suffering health problems. I started with MFP last January and was so excited about it that I shared with her. She wasn't interested and started sharing all of her insight and advice (insert…
  • I hear ya... i have a (very decadent) cookie each day if I feel the need. I try to eat healthy and bump up the activity. I've been doing it for 1 year and counting and it's working! :)
  • trying again to post photo: before: 305 / after: 182 (and still working on it) I'm 5'8" and 43y/o
  • I started this in January 2011, but I looked pretty much like the May 2010 photo when I did (can't figure out posting photo) http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/vv261/gr8escap/MyPhotoStream2.jpg
  • I got a slenderizing camisole from Walmart for not too much and I love it. I've only got the one item though, so I can't be much more help than that. I'll be happy to see any replies you get.
  • sweet potato... and we had great baked ones tonight. they were so tasty and even better with a squeeze of lime!
  • i think it helps A LOT! I used to drink colas daily and now I might share one with my friend on a Sunday afternoon...although more often not. And when I do it will certainly not have high fructose corn syrup in it! (I choose the Mexican Coke or Pepsi versions) Even diet drinks contribute. But they do it secretly, by their…
  • I've become a tiny bit addicted to that little monster too. I don't weigh daily but I do it far too much more than I should. I'm with ya!
  • I think the answer is a variable one and depends on what you're looking for. The goals here on MFP are to help you lose whichever amount of weight (IE 2 pounds per week) you are shooting for, allowing for your personal height, age and activity level. I am not familiar with the purpose of calorie goals on other websites but…
  • you can do it... take it from someone who HAS lost the equivalent of an entire person, it IS possible! Use the tools this site offers, be honest with yourself in your logging and don't lose interest or hope! the people here are VERY good support! Sherry
  • I don't think any kind of motivation to lose weight can be too shallow! I remember the shame I felt when I needed a seat-belt extender on a flight. That wasn't even my motivation, but it easily could have been! Keep up the good work!
  • welcome! I'd past the 40 mark before I decided to make a change - so know that it is possible! I started with MFP in January of 2011 and in these 10 months, I've lost 114 pounds. It has been a challenge, sure, but just keep track of your calories, walk (a lot!) or your choice of exercise and you will not still be "this…
  • I usually know in advance so I eat less through the day, and have small samples of each item that I like at the parties.I also keep track of them whether I end up going over or not, at least I'm being honest with myself when the day is done.
  • i try to do this also. otherwise, who benefits from the reverse? nobody! :) weigh and measure, don't just weigh, you could be gaining weight in the form of muscle mass and losing inches (this is where i've been in the past few weeks, because although the scale is hovering near the same numbers, my clothes (pants mostly)…
  • nuts or peanut butter for sure... they work for me anyhow!
  • when i started on this adventure in January - i would walk 15 minutes per day. One of my work breaks, and I only got about 1/3 of a mile in that time. I eventually upped it to both of my 15 minute breaks, and after dinner (and my dog LOVED me for that) for a half an hour. I now go anywhere from 5-7 miles per day, after 10…
  • yes, you're building muscle and like a turbo engine, you must fuel these muscles!!!
  • when my sister recommended the app and site, i wasn't sure i wanted to be that "aware" of what I was eating. I figured i'd give it a light try-the highest calories I could get away with-and hope for the best. I also thought I'd be forgetting all about it in about a week. well, I have been here every single day, logging…
  • Welcome Dean! I'm sure you'll find a lot of encouragement here! I was referred at the first of the year by my little sis, and the resources here are very, very helpful! I've lost my weight following the calories designated and by walking daily. It can be done!
  • Hello Page! Your story is so dramatic and frightening! In the end, it looks like you've gotten a gift from it all, a new outlook! I'm here to tell you it can be done! I started this year off at 300# (!) and have - since starting with MyFitnessPal.com - lost 89 pounds! I've still got 61 to go to meet my goal. I did it using…
  • I agree with the many.. I've tried a couple of brands of almond milk and prefer the Silk Unsweetened (not flavored). I use it in my lattes and it's so good, as well as with cereal. I've even had a half-a-glass a time or two. I really don't like any milk less than 2% and the silk is as creamy as a 2% milk is... I didn't…
  • i really wanted some Reese's Pieces today. I could have gone down to the machine at work but I decided it really wasn't worth going all the way out to the car (parked in the north 40) to get the change for the machines... so I said "NO" to the Reece's Pieces.
  • some dark chocolate and some strawberry shortcake will be had and will be logged :)
  • i don't have cheat days, but weekends are a bit dodgy. I always count everything and i try to get enough exercise to "earn" some wiggle room ;)
  • i usually create a recipe in the foods section telling the number of servings it made. it works really well.
