  • They don't say we can't sell by WEIGHT, but it has to be kilos, not good old British pounds and ounces!
  • No tea can make you slim, it's all sales talk! If you're after a healthy caffeine free drink, try redbush (rooibos) tea from South Africa. Delicious, and has antioxidant properties.
  • Roast them! A good mix is sliced red peppers, baby tomatoes, sliced red onions, sliced butternut squash and sliced courgettes (zucchini). Put in a plastic bag and toss in a tablespoon of olive oil, spread on a baking tray, top with a few sprigs of rosemary and roast till soft. Delicious. You can also do a jacket sweet…
  • i was doing well losing weight until my husband died. Although it wasn't totally unexpected as he was 25 years older than me and had health probs, we had been married 38 years, and I regained most of my weight loss thru' comfort eating. Then I had a few years of upheaval with moving house and other things, so didn't settle…
  • I'm a pensioner and have to watch pennies too. I don't know if you have them in the US, but I buy a lot of my fruit and veg in our local street market. They're not the perfect size and shape and colour demanded by supermarkets, but are perfectly good. Since the stupid EU directive that we can't sell by the pound (weight),…
  • I restarted on 1st January, by which time I was tired of rich foods and wanted fresh stuff anyway. Last year I managed to lose 1lb overall! So I'll obviously be good at maintaining if I ever get that far.Am trying to lose the weight I regained comfort eating after the death of my husband in September 2010.
  • Congratulations, what a fabulous achievement!
  • Sounds like you have an eating disorder and should get proper medical advice. Try not to see food as an enemy but as fuel. If you starve yourself you lose muscle as well as fat, and can damage your heart,as that is a muscle! Take a good look at the healthy food pyramid/plate and follow that.
  • rosemaryconleytv is free and has good low fat recipes.(British site)
  • Eating too little is counterproductive as it makes your body feel it's starving and needs to hang on to fat. It takes a deficit of calories of 3500 to lose 1lb, which averages 300 a day, so you can do it with small changes.
  • The only way in which drinking tea (or any other fluid) can help weight loss is if you haven't been drinking enough. Some people drink less because they know fluid weighs heavy. (I've been told' a pint of water weighs a pound and a quarter'). However, this is counterproductive as not drinking enough causes your body to…
  • If you're having trouble with scales, try measuring instead. If you're sticking to your calories/exercise you should be losing. Is there a scale you could use at a pharmacy or gym near you? They should be accurate, but don't take notice of the actual number, just if it goes down! Home scales can vary according to the…
  • There is a very good acronym - HALT. It means if you're Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired, you'll make bad choices, and that includes food choices. The culprit is probably your tiredness, which makes your body go for a quick sugar fix, but that makes your blood sugar peak and then drop again, so you feel worse and even more…
  • I'm another fan of cooking ahead. I live alone, and if I find a freezeable recipe I like that serves four, I'll make the whole thing and freeze 3 servings. That way I always have 'ready meals' in the freezer, but as they're home-cooked I know they're not full of junk and additives. A slow cooker is also good, just throw…
  • Hi, everyone! It's raining here in London today but mild for the time of year. The problem with being a small island (or collection of islands) on the edge of the Atlantic is that our weather literally depends on which direction the wind is blowing! I don't have as much of a problem with having 'naughty' stuff in the home…
  • Drink water if you like it , but despite what some people say, ALL non-alcoholic drinks contribute to hydration, tho' it's best to avoid sugary ones and only have 1 glass of fruit juice a day. A glass of plain water can be zinged up with a squeeze of lemon or lime juice, no need to buy flavoured.
  • I tore my gastrocnemius muscle in calf while walking (don't know how as it's usually a rugby injury!) Anyway, the Urgent Care Centre nurse i saw advised the RICE treatment, ie, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. She said it would feel better in 2 weeks but DIDN'T tell me it would take 6 weeks to heal properly, so I re-tore…
  • The advice in the UK is 30 mins exercise (at least) per day, but it doesn't have to be 'formal' exercise. Something you don't do every day, like gardening or spring cleaning counts, so I would think your log carrying would also count.
  • Protein keeps you going,so it's best to have that as part of your meal. You could have hard-boiled eggs or a mixed bean salad, which are easy to carry. Also good to use low GI foods as they won't give you blood sugar spikes and leave you hungry.
  • Have you been tested for IBS? Or if you think it could be a food allergy, commonest ones are wheat or dairy.Try cutting out any food group you think you might not tolerate and see if symptoms subside.
  • According to my Rosemary Conley Calorie Guide, an average portion of fish shop chips is 550 cals.
  • Set small goals and give yourself a non-food reward eg a favourite magazine or new nail varnish/lipstick when you reach one. DON'T look at the overall amount. Remember the saying 'How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!' If food costs are a problem, try visiting budget supermarkets like Lidl and Aldi, their quality…
  • I do eat a small supper, but that's because I tend to have an acid stomach and if it gets empty and grumbly it will keep me awake. If you eat at night have something light, anything fatty will lie on your stomach and make you uncomfortable.
  • Widowed 3 years ago next Tuesday after 38 happy years of marriage. Shame we didn't make the Ruby Wedding, but he WAS 25 years older than me. Now enjoying an independent life.
  • Please try to keep it up, smoking is so bad for you! My mother died at only 58 because you had emphysema and wouldn't stop smoking. She got pneumonia and coupled with the emphysema it killed her. IN Britain the NHS promote October as 'STOPtober' month for smokers. If you Google STOPtober you might find some good advice.
  • I like Mediterranean roasted veg - courgettes (zucchini), peppers, baby plum tomatoes, red onion and a few cloves of garlic, with a couple of sprigs of rosemary.Roasted garlic tastes really sweet. But you can roast most veg, root veg, butternut squash and sweet potato are good too. If you don't want to use too much oil,…
  • Have you had a cold or similar virus recently? You can get an ear condition called labyrinthitis after one, which causes affects balance organs giddiness.Ask someone to check if you sway when standing with eyes closed, if so, see GP.
  • Managed to make it thru' August with a loss despite the fact that I've been unable to exercise due to a bad back AND all 3 of my sons have August birthdays (14th,23rd & 24th ). Luckily they decided to get together for a joint celebration BBQ rather than have individual 'parties', so I was only faced with food temptation…
  • Stopping smoking is the best thing you can do for your health! My mother died aged 58 of pneumonia and emphysema because she would NOT stop despite being ill. Nicotine does suppress appetite, also your sense of taste gets better after stopping. Part of the problem is being used to having something in the mouth, so people…
