  • Definitely - more defined waist and slimmer thighs.
  • I prefer to go by the 80/20 rule. If you're strict 80% of the time you can allow yourself a bit of leeway the other 20%. Not to go crazy, but there will be birthdays and other family occasions. For example, if your partner surprises you with a nice meal out, are you really going to say, 'No thanks, I'm on a diet'? As John…
  • Wow, you are amazing, what a terrific change! Well done you!
  • Library assistant.
  • School trip to Provence (with overnight stopover in Paris) when I was 16.
  • I log as I go too, except for things like milk etc which I'll use thru' the day.
  • I usually go for a banana! I also take Co-enzymeQ10 to keep my energy levels up as I'm on statins and they deplete your natural stores .CoQ10 helps you release energy from food.
  • Cutting down too far is counter-productive, as your body goes into 'starvation' mode and hangs on to the fat. 1200 cals is quite low enough. If you struggle to reach it, have something more calorific but good for you, like oily fish or wholegrain carbs. You need to consume 3,500 calories OVER the average daily maintanance…
  • I met Walt Disney when I was 8. He was a model railway fan and visited a passenger-carrying one on a track my Dad's model engineering club ran in London (it's still going!)
  • Try pears with skin on or figs, they help.
  • I'm always alone, as it's so hot in London this week I've been having mostly salads.Tonight I had a chicken breast cooked in my George Foreman grill, which I use a lot, with veggies. I use my steamer for veg. One thing I do is make a batch of freezable recipes so I always have home-cooked 'ready meals' in the freezer.
  • Doctors in the UK aren't overly concerned about low BP, tho' they tend to make more of it in some European countries. As long as it isn't making you extremely tired or liable to faint, it shouldn't be a problem. Just keep your sodium/potassium balance right and you should be OK.
  • All sorts! I like what we call 'builder's tea' in London, strong with a dash of milk. In hot weather I like Earl Grey with lemon, or fruit teas .Camomile is good at bedtime or for a cold and peppermint is good for indigestion. And I love redbush (rooibos) tea from South Africa as a late evening drink as it has no caffeine…
  • I like the sun, but it's a bit too hot for me at the moment.I prefer it bright but fresher. Good thing is I don't feel like eating so much in hot weather, and I can enjoy a cooling swim.
  • I can't go to bed hungry, so I save some calories for a bowl of cereal or couple of slices of toast for supper.
  • I'm in Waltham Forest, East London.
  • I will join the smug brigade - have been retired for 5 years, but never worked Saturdays, I was a school librarian. But I feel for you stuck in the office in the heat, hope you have a cool drink handy.
  • Fantastic, what a great achievement!
  • It's not the one meal that matters, it's the whole day's food. Cereal is good, but it's better if you can eat wholegrain cereals or ones without added sugar.( Don't know about the US, but here in the UK Special K has a 'new recipe' which I find disgustingly sweet. I don't see why a 'healthy' cereal would have so much sugar…
  • What I did was make up my usual salad and calorie count it, then I use that count when I have a salad. If it's bigger than usual I add in the percentage and of course any extras I add like low-fat coleslaw.Works for me.
  • If you lose weight fast, it often comes back. If you lose it slowly and steadily,it will stay off. You are doing fine! Also, we store a lot of excess fat around our internal organs, so if you don't see it coming off the outside, it's probably coming off the inside, which may not look as good but is a big bonus health-wise.
  • My son took me to Wetherspoon's while out shopping and they had a free nutrition guide leaflet with calories and nutritional values for all their meals, even with sections on variations in Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Worth looking out for if you go there.
  • All good suggestions, but watch the dressings on salads, they can be very high. If possible ask for sauces/dressings to be served on the side, then you can limit them.
  • echinacea is meant to be good for the immune system. If your detox is causing you to miss out on vital nutrients it's probably not a good idea to continue. Shingles is caused by the herpes virus which also causes chickenpox and cold sores, and low vitality/immune system are likely to make you more susceptible.
  • Chestnuts are the lowest nuts, but you need to roast them so it's a bit of a faff. Next lowest are almonds and pistachios, however all nuts are between about 600-700 calories per 100gm. Brazil nuts contain selenium, which is good for you, but you don't get many for your 100gms. Pumpkin seeds are a bit lower than sunflower…
  • You look gorgeous! If you're doing lots of exercise, burning fat and building muscle, muscle weighs heavier than fat, so that could be it. Also weight often doesn't change for a bit after you start doing more exercise, then will suddenly shift,so keep at it.
  • Tesco do a reduced fat one, tastes fine to me.
  • I have a stock reply to people like this: 'I'd rather be as fat as a pig than as ignorant as one!' Usually shuts them up.....
  • If you have a local market, check it out for fruit and veg - not always so good-looking as supermarket stuff but good value.I always use mine, today I got 8 nectarines for £1 and big bowls of cherries & apricots also £1 each.
