I agree with @miriamtob here, though i do think that @mamapeach has some thoughtful things to say for sure. what's the point in picking out the most inflammatory things on alternative meds and posting it as "ayurveda?" it's laughable to anyone who has gone to a good chinese medicine doctor or been to a (good) integrative…

oscillococinum (sp?) is homeopathic and works for me. It's what everyone on film shoots uses for the first sympton of flu-like colds, sold at every deli in NYC, now at some truck stops....I wonder if it didn't work if it would be so omnipresent? I've been taking it for years...it def tastes like sugar placebos, but it dang…

no, I totally agree, it has (and I like that!) but I think there is some fringe-y stuff that just annoys me and is fear-mongering. So I like to remind folks of where this started - in health. Also Deepak Chopra is not the be-all end-all of ayurveda. He's one dude.

@jgnatca are you responding to me? this is way outside of what I'm talking about.

Did you read my whole post? It's integrative health @Miriamtob, I'm right there with you. I'm trying to be amused by the narrowminded way people have tried to respond to this...and totally taken it away from my original post and my subsequent posts which attempted to bring it back in line with that. I'll repeat it one more…

It's still amazing to me that my original post caused so many responses. I am loving the dialog here, although some of the staunch opposition (particularly the vomiting ayurveda thread), I found hysterically funny. You can find extremes about anything, and that certainly doesn't fall into the ayurvedic principles I've ever…

Hi original poster here. It's amazing there have been so many posts on this thread, clearly it brings alot up for folks. One of the more interesting things for me is the dichotomies posed here. I don't think there needs to be such black and white thinking when it comes to this stuff. When I lived in new york, I went to…

Yeah my mom and my dad at 71 and 81 respectively both do yoga every day...I don't do it quite that much but I do think it's pretty incredible.

Actually here's one that came up on a google search. Check out the source: http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/emptycalorie-foods-vs-nutrientdense-foods-1350.html that's great about your weight loss. Believe me I eat my fair share of ice cream. I just don't feel as good when I eat alot of it.
-
Well, when it comes to weight loss, a calorie is a calorie. Your body won't be mad at you for eating 100 calories of ice cream instead of 100 calorie of kale, and it won't make you gain weight on the ice cream and lose weight on the kale. These foods are nutritionally different, but neither is a good or bad food. It's all…

Ha, yes well i feel like i have one sometime! No, I wasn't talking one vs. the other. I'm talking the same amount of calories.
-
I'm not sure anyone is arguing this CICO stuff...at this point I'm unclear why it got brought up. It's obvious one feels differently if you eat 1500 calories of less nutritionally dense food (ie popcorn, candy bar and soda like I do sometime at the movies) vs 1500 calories of say salmon, brown rice, apples, salad, and some…

Just to clarify my original post since alot of people who have commented since haven't (understandably) had time to read the whole thing. 1) I was enthusiastic about exploring ayurveda bc it seems to make sense for my body and thought it was something worth exploring and sharing. Though this was not in the original post…

Of course, agreed. But if you read back on the thread (not that you have the time, it's a long thread!) then you will see that that is not what was being argued, I don't believe. When it gets semantic like that - like when people say you will lose weight if you just reduce calories, then the unit of energy vs. nutritional…

wanted to post this for anyone on this thread who was interested in ayurvedic cooking. I've really been enjoying the days I've been trying, though the increased fiber (ie less processed foods) has been a little hard on my stomach. Hope this is helpful to some of you as well. As for me, I'm heading to the library!…

This person is a registered dietician, in addition to using some ayurveda in her suggestions. And i'm not just drinking lemon water, which I sip it throughout the day. I drink plain water all through the day too.

exactly. Not everyone on this thread is paying attention to what I'm saying, there's an assumption that I don't understand calorie deficit for weight loss. Which I never said and do understand. There are many things unrelated to calorie deficit (such as nutritional makeup) that also make a difference. It seems there are…

Totally agree that some of the first article sounds like hooey. But I do like my nutritionist and so far what she has told me sounds reasonable. This is the last graph of the 2nd article you sent me (and i'm not trying to treat cancer, just stop chronic stomach pain from stress from my job): At its most basic level,…
