My personal view is that both exercise and diet are important. I started of just losing weight via diet. I then found that I couldn't sustain the deficit so started exercising but I am glad I did because the danger with prolonged diet based deficit is muscle loss and a loss of bone density. In other words, exercise to try…

I have a BMI of 26 so am overweight. but not much belly. I have known people with a pot belly and yet they still claim to be within a weight that is not over weight. BMI is for populations not individuals so it should work for most but there will always be a few who drop off each side of the norm

Exercise is part of the energy deficit equation. IMHO it just isn't many calories.

In my view, people need support to lose weight and change habits. My support is from my wife but if ww or other groups works for you then go for it. If it works then it is money well spent. Using books to help with food ideas is good too

We all have weeks like that :)

Don't go below 1200. Just take things slower. As you lose weight you metabolism drops. Large people need more calories per day than thin people.

2 is still great. Estimating your bodies energy usage is dodgy and it changes. If you are losing weight then you are eating at a deficit. If you diary is v accurate then maybe the estimate of what your body needs is lower than mfp estimates

It depends. For example running 5 km then it is probably neither here nor there if you eat them back or not. But if you do longer exercise eg 160 km cycle rides then it is vital to eat a substantial amount of the calories while you do it. The difference is exercise to generate a deficit and exercise for pleasure. All I…

I also put in lots of weight after having it removed

I had mine removed after serious attacks but even key hole surgery is serious. There is a probability of fatality with any general anaesthetic. So no symptoms should mean no surgery. Having a gall bladder attack is not going to be fatal. Get another doctor.

Add peppers and a courgette then you have Ratatouille

Fitbit flex is good but I wish I had the one with a heart rate monitor built in

I put on weight but continued to lose waist. If you exercising lots then are you gaining muscle mass? Try skin calipers to help you measure %body fat. They aren't perfect but better than impedance based fat measurement and a lot cheaper

This a a great opportunity. Reflect on how you felt and then when you have another cheat day or just a nice meal with friends and family then just be mindful of your experience. I have felt the same and found that after a while I don't want to blow out as much but I can still enjoy food ( just a little bit less on the…

Don't think if it as a diet but as retraining your eating habits. You must weigh everything. Calories burned can be inaccurate too. So again try not to eat back all of your calories from exercise
-
Do it for yourself. Then you cannot fail. The ex girlfriend is probably doing just that

I used to be critical of the "plateau" as my weight loss was really consistent for ages. Then I entered the "plateau". Without a doubt, I must underestimate the amount of Cals that I eat and despite using apps like strava rather than map for calories burnt during exercise I am convinced that these are over estimates too.…

By the way you looked fab at 169

Thanks. Nice to know I am not average :)

I so agree. Thanks for letting me vent

Because insurance companies pay more attention to these type of metrics than the facts and the fact that my original target was to get to below bmi 25 which just isn't
-
Current pic yet bmi 26. Main prob re clothes is trousers that are too tight on the thighs and yet still are 32" waist. Cyclist thighs!!! I wasn't asking for advice but have had plenty. The point I wanted to make was that bmi is a poor tool for the individual. Looking in the mirror, using a tape measure and using calipers…

Good luck, eat well.

Disconnect fit bit from mfp then reconnect from Fitbit site

After losing 25kg through diet and lots of cycling, I recently had trouble buying trousers because the trousers were too tight on the thighs but loose on the waist.
