same here...was out of town for a girls weekend, went to the office for a few hours when I got home. Didn't shop or do my food prep. Today is random stuff (tuna, peaches & cantaloupe we bought at a stand on the way home, protein bar). I teach tonight so tomorrow will probably be more of the same...

The advice in the opening post is also very similar to an article on bodybuilding.com called "How to Lose Weight." For me this approach has been easier to sustain long term. It was never about the scale or how quickly I lost "weight" since I wanted to lose fat not just weight. I don't feel deprived since I didn't cut my…

I'm 47 & I don't think it's ever been easy! But...I started logging consistently last September & have been pretty happy with the results. I didn't expect quick weight loss as it's never really been that way for me. I'm smaller now than I've been since I had my daughter...who is 20 years old. Cardio doesn't do much for me…

ugh...I hate to weigh myself. 1 of 2 things can happen. I can get frustrated that I haven't lost (or haven't lost what I thought/hoped I would) or I'll do well & reward myself with a false sense of entitlement allowing me to eat quantities of food that would make anyone fat. I knew it was going to be a long process so I…

agreed on this...size 12 to start & wearing a size 4 today. they fit a curvy figure perfectly. ordered some online this week 40% off

I lurk on this post every day, but don't think I've ever posted on it before. Truth is...you have no idea what your body is capable of doing or looking like until you get your nutrition on point & develop some kind of lifting program. I have taught Jazzercise for 14 years & was convinced I was always going to be a little…

There are loads of "diets" out there & honestly they all pretty much work as long as you cut your calories to a deficit. It's finding what will work for YOU long term. I'm 47 & eat pretty much anything I want. I just exercise regularly & count my calories. I have 1,500 as a daily goal but everyone has different caloric…

I think it depends on what they're using. I dated a guy who was doing something that made his face so puffy like chipmunk cheeks. My ex's girlfriend looks like she did the same thing before the Mid-Atlantic show in October. She was unrecognizable at the time, but looks ok now, just like the skin in her face is a bit droopy…

lol...can be an issue in skinny jeans & forget most boots. I feel your pain OP. I wear a size 6 shoe so most boots my size won't zip over my calf. Maybe mine aren't as big as yours though 'cause I have never felt unfeminine because of them. Maybe I just haven't paid attention though haha

I think most gyms probably have floor monitors that are minimally trained, but not actual instructors. There may also be some personal trainers lurking around for clients (haha). OP...maybe take a friend with you & focus on enjoying the workout with your friend a couple of times vs. getting your heart rate up to a certain…

AGREE Be patient. I didn't see any results on the scale for weeks & was feeling frustrated except I noticed my pants were getting looser & looser. I stopped weighing, but continued to be vigilant about my lifting (was already doing enough cardio since I teach Jazzercise 4x a week) & logging. I suppose I should weigh…

I know it can seem hard, especially at first, but the payoff is so worth it! When people ask how much weight I've lost or tell me I need new pants 'cause my compression pants aren't compressing anymore (haha) I don't even think about all the days/nights I eat sweet potatoes, cabbage & chicken. Trust me...nothing tastes as…

sorry about losing your dad :'( we all look for anything that might help to feel like we're at least trying to do something (we all ate a ton of broccoli sprouts when my sister was dying of cancer) You can def drink more than you can eat, but that's only because you're leaving out the fiber. What's the point? I'm glad if…

OMG what we need is a like/love button (sorry OP but he's right)

ummm...you're eating 3 meals a day PLUS the juicing so that's unrelated to the OP's topic of juice fasting. Not sure much of what you've said makes sense anyway. I have a friend (real life friend) who has been juicing (juice fasting I'm guessing) & losing like a pound a day. Terrible idea in my opinion for a variety of…

Pure Protein vanilla here too. I use it in a variety of things from overnight oatmeal to mixing with a small amount of almond milk to make "icing" on baked sweet potato or baked apples (along with allspice or pumpkin pie spice). On nights I teach right after work I have a shake to hold me over until dinner since I don't…

replenishing muscle lost isn't as easy as you make it sound! it takes a lot of work to build significant muscle & requires eating above maintenance, which kinda defeats the purpose of losing the weight to begin with...or am I missing some piece of the puzzle?
-
You're never going to look "too muscular" on 1,100 calories per day. Women don't gain bulky muscle easily without "help" & building muscle while in a caloric deficit is nearly impossible. ETA - is there some event coming up that has you wanting to lose so much so quickly?
-
You don't want to be told to eat a normal amount of food so I will skip that. The women you see with the toned lean body you want have preserved their muscle mass. Dieting leads to fat and muscle loss, especially if you are not lifting weights and eating enough to promote muscle retention. What kind of workouts are you…

They should if they want to look better naked (or in a bathing suit...whichever you prefer). It's also nice to have more muscle to help your core strength as you age.

word...sweat dripping on the floor when I'm done teaching a class, sweat running into my ears, rusting my mic (I just pop the battery out after class 'cause I've ruined a mic on/off switch with rust). When my daughter is in class she likes the front row & I try to make my pony tail throw sweat on her...yes, I am bad. haha…

I'm 47, 5'2", have my calories set at 1,500 & eat back my exercise calories...some days all, some days half, some days none. It just depends on how I feel. I would be depressed if I thought I could never lose weight unless I ate so little. I teach at least 4x a week & lift (moderately heavy) so not interested in eating…

Smelling good food can make you crazy if you don't have anything. I work for a company that makes & develops seasonings for things like chips or meat. When R&D cooks it can smell so good! I'm getting better at ignoring it. My personal pet peeve is HEARING other people eat. I don't want to hear you crunch on carrots at your…

OMG yes...a must read if you want abs (still a work in progress here)

Boom...that was dynamite. If we just had a like button I could press it instead of commenting....

I'm not planning to give up weighing entirely, but I don't weigh very often. For me, it starts a pattern that's unhealthy. I start cutting back more & more, to an unsustainable level, obsess over what the scale is going to say, try to sweat more (weighing before & after class), eat even less, eat lighter weight foods, or…

I have a few recipes saved, but it's actually easier for me to eat single item foods. (especially now that my daughter is in college) I like cooking, but not feeling the complicated, multi-ingredient recipes since it's just me now. For stuff you make often it's worth the effort to enter the recipe the one time & have it…

Agree...it's less about motivation, which waxes & wanes with the moon it seems, & more about setting yourself up to succeed with appropriate food available & just getting up every day & doing the damn thing until it's 2nd nature.

As others have said...doesn't matter when you eat. I teach after work a couple of nights a week & get home pretty late. I also don't like to eat out for lunch for a variety of reasons (time, quality of food, expense, calories). Sunday night is food prep night. This week I made a big pot of collard greens, a bunch of…

hahahaha I was gonna read the rest of this thread but this sums it up...
