I went to Makkudonarudo in Tokyo's Shiodome area -- and succeeded in ordering 2 bunless double cheese burgers! The crew was puzzled last month, but the guy remembered me and my weirdness... Had to pay full price though, no hidden menu a la carte. Cost is 320 yen ($2.80) each. Packed in a big mac box.

There's a spectrum of low carb diets, from zero carb (aka Meativores) to the carb-full Standard American Diet (SAD). Some people also do low carb, high fat vegetarian. How Jimmy Moore defined them: Zero carb: Less than 10 grams of carbs daily and 5%…

Yup, most of us have learned the hard way that overindulging in old favorite snacks will result in carb cravings returning with a vengeance, and added lbs too. The best lesson to teach how to kcko. I just lost a battle with a timtams package this week.... sigh.

I am in my 4th year of lchf, and have kept off the 11 kg (24 lbs) that I lost in the first year, though I bounce up and down a kilo depending on my carb ups. I keep calm and keto on because I feel better that way! You can too.

Two screens at the end of that Phinney video say it all:

It could be too much magnesium. Natural Calm is citrate, I think--too much of that is a disaster pants trigger for me! Too much fat before becoming adapted is also a trigger. Go slow as you kcko.

That is a fabulous list! thanks for that link.

I saw some tweets about that -- pretty ironic!

I lost 11 kg over a year and a few months, see my avatar for the ups and downs. I ate roughly 1200-1300 cals during that time, less than 50 gr carbs, often skipping breakfast. That was 4 years ago, I am now 60. Have maintained on 1500-1800 cals per day, with still doing IF several days through the week. Not often in…

You can also consider intermittent fasting once you are fat adapted (wait a month or so) and have a sense of how it is working for you.

I too use guesstimates when logging some foods, as most of the brands in Japan are different from US ones. If I can log via the bar code, sometimes the product is already in MFP, which is handy. And while we are on the topic of wine.... don't do as I did last Thursday and go out with the gals... I am such a lightweight…

If you are in the US, you can order low carb products from Netrition.com https://www4.netrition.com/cgi/product_categories_display.cgi?categories=VLC#{product-grid|page=1} Shipping is high to Japan, sad to say. :(

Yes! I used the reddit keto site a lot when I was starting out.

I just saved the url -- go the start of this post (page 1 of this entry) and copy/bookmark the url in your browser. It should open it directly whenever you click on it. MFP isn't so great for saving posts, I find.

Hi, low carb eating does change your taste buds a bit, I think. Sweet things taste way sweeter to me now, been doing this 4 years. It will take your body a while to adjust, so give it a bit more time. Keep calm and keto on... :) ps. there is a low carb group you might want to join here:…

Those chicken hearts are on the menu at yakitori shops here in Japan, yum! But they never serve them on sticks that long... usually just about 5-inch sticks.

News from September says Japan now has 20 million at risk or with diabetes, current population is 126 million. http://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/AJ201709220045.html

I just found a spaghetti squash at the local farmers market in Tokyo -- score! I had not seen them for ages. Baked it up and it was perfect last night with a pesto sauce. Brought the rest for lunch with a curry today at work. Zoodles are also a new find for me, like them with any sauces.

Welcome! I was wondering at first if newts were a new keto thing, lol. :D

bumping again for the weekend! have a good one...

keep calm and keto on! It took me over a year to lose 22 lbs or so... (see my progress in my avatar picture). Stick with it and think about how much better you are feeling on lchf.

We also have a Launch Pad that includes a long list of books, videos and more right here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10348421/recommended-videos-movies-podcasts-and-clips#latest These are all recommended by members of this forum over the years. Your mom might find the Jimmy Moore books easier to follow…

I too did Dave Feldman's 3-day fat feast prior to a 14-hour fast ahead of the blood draw for my health check in May. Below are the results, compared to 6 and 12 months prior. I am happy to say that my total cholesterol dropped and my HbA1C stayed at 4.8! They gave me an A1 rating, woot.

I have discovered that just googling ingredients I have on hand, plus the word "keto" brings up a lot of good recipes.
