Thanks for that - yes I did think that swimming the distance wouldnt me me any faster (same principle applies for running), I just wanted to see where I was, so to speak. I'll work on my technique and on the pull etc. Will report back and thanks for your time in responding

My grandmother was a very strong woman and hated being old - this made her a bitter woman in her latter years and as I was the youngest she took a lot of it out on me. Not sure what her reasons were etc etc, but her death did nothing to me and the hurt she caused whilst she was alive made me stronger, even if they hurt…

I used not to - actually probably ran about 10 halves with only water. Then I discovered Cliff Shot Bloks, had one every 2 miles and felt a massive difference. Ran a PB (personal best) on the two that I took them on. So they work for me, but try them out on a training run as Carson suggests, nothing worse than trying it…

Also if they're running around that'll keep them warm. I've got a labrador and a heinz 57 (collie / whippet / jack russel cross) and he's got think fur (ie not as well covered as the lab) and he does fine, just make sure he runs around a lot. And it's about 3-5 degrees C in the UK now so at 12 degrees it would be lovely!!…
