  • Hey, Leo.. I can tell you're truly trying to be helpful, so I'll bite back the snark and sarcasm that was my first reaction to your post. :) I don't see ice cream or treats as 'empty' calories, even if not necessarily the most nutritious options. My ice cream, for example, includes carbs, protein, fat, as well as several…
  • So tonight, I thought I'd try the potato diet! See if that gets me going in the right direction.. Pretty sure I got it wrong, though. Does my side of steak and salad still count as the potato diet? Oh, and butter. I added butter....
  • Nothing wrong with guac and chips if you weigh and log it into your diary and make it fit your calories. I took a quick look back through the last couple of weeks and it doesn't appear you've been consistent with weighing and logging everything? Some things are listed in cups/tsp/'half apple' while others are in grams. You…

  • If I know I want something for dinner with a lot of calories, I pre-log to make sure it fits. Most of the time, I just log as I go.
  • I would suggest going into Goals on MFP, entering your stats and setting it to 'maintain'. That will figure your calories before exercise. Then enter your exercises and eat back 50-75% of those calories. It will show an increase in goal carbs, but you don't have to eat that. You can eat protein/fat instead to keep your…
  • Way to go!! I can't complain too much. I started Apr 22 and am down 13 lbs. I just want to hit that under 200 mark lol
  • How did you figure your calorie goal of 1850? Did you let MFP figure it for you with your stats or did you enter it manually based on your TDEE? MFP gives you a calorie goal before exercise and you are suggested to eat back at least 50% of those. MFP's estimates tend to be high, so no one recommends starting out by eating…
  • You must be silly bored today lol
  • I've only been at it for a month, so I'm really happy with the drop. I've been walking a mile or two each day and cycling a couple miles most days. Building up on both of those as I'm able, but a month ago, I could barely walk the 0.2 miles to the mail box without being winded. Now I'm fine on breathing, just having to…
  • I began exercising because my resting heart rate was running in the 90s and I don't want to have a heart attack at 45. I don't really enjoy it, but I do it. Now my resting heart rate is down in the 70s, so I know it's working.
  • Out of curiosity, what type of pain? Are you on hormonal birth control? The reason I ask, I was on Depo shots in my early twenties and eventually diagnosed with fibromyalgia. When I stopped the shots, the fibro faded away. After having my son, I started the pill and the symptoms returned. No more hormones, no more pains…
  • Allow yourself time to grieve. As suggested above, look for non-food methods to deal with the inevitable emotions. Look at your son and remember the struggle you went through to have him and how far you've come to be healthy for him. You want to keep that progress and, in time, make more so you can be there for him.
  • Agreed with above. At the very most, set it to 1.5lbs/week. You didn't mention your age, but your TDEE for sedentary should be around 2300/day which means you should be eating no less than 1300/day for a 2lb/week weight loss. Honestly, at 300lbs, you would be fine at 1500-1800 for a while (until your weight comes on down…
  • I don't think I could do kgs. That'd take SO long to get from one to the next. Maybe you should switch to pounds just for this!
  • At the very least, add some butter, cheese, sour cream, maybe even some bacon or other proteins and fats to your potato. Carbs are the macros you can most easily do without and not have any ill health effects. You need protein and fats.
  • Potatoes aren't going to cleanse you... or give you any more boosts of energy than a regular meal that is a good balance of protein, fat and carbs. In fact, eating potatoes by themselves could cause insulin reactions. Carbs are processed differently when eaten alone versus with a protein/fat. You do what works for you, but…
  • Oh dang! I would love it if calories didn't count between midnight and 6 am!! But yes, I'd log it. If I had room in the previous day for the calories, I'd put it there. If not, I'd add it to the day I'd be waking up in, but I'd log it somewhere.

  • Mine don't necessarily count as traumatic, but between child birth, divorce, house foreclosure and a few other things, I got so down that I didn't give a duck. Binge eating, there I went. It takes time to get out of that, but it's possible.. for me, I got a food scale and started logging. I didn't get active. I didn't…
  • Maybe I'm weird. Someone compliments me on looking great after weight loss, I'm right out there with "Thanks! I lost 50lbs!" (or however many it is at the time.. I'm looking forward to being able to say 50 again). I even like when they continue on to ask "How?", especially if it's someone I know has tried to lose weight,…
  • I would buy more local, grass-fed, free range, etc meat and eggs. I hate having to buy the marked down meat at the grocery store, but it's what I can afford, so it's what I get.
  • By the way.. do you like ice cream? Ice cream is great for filling in those last few hundred calories :)
  • I eat a few more vegetables than you, but honestly, I'm not big on veggies, either. Great thing about losing weight the MFP way? You don't have to eat things you don't like. You don't have to not eat things you do like. You may need to rearrange some things, like not two fast food meals in a single day (though even that is…
  • I think Christmas is easier! At least we know the date for that lol
  • It's very unlikely you gained 4 real pounds in a few days. Most of that's going to be water weight which will come back off once you get things in order :) You got this!
  • Same here!! I keep reminding myself, then I see the weight in the morning and say 'duck the scale, I'm not weighing for a week', then I'm on it again the next morning. I don't want to miss that downward dip lol
  • I'll be in that same boat once I hit the under 200 lol... Then I'll be ready for under 190!
  • Not sure about cauliflower in meatloaf, but I add zucchini in mine.
  • ACV.. no no, I'm thinking of going to have a deep colonic! That'd at least give me a temporary drop, right? rofl Crawwwwwwwwwwwwwwfishhhhhhhhh... that's a meal I could sink my teeth into. We're nearing end of season. Maybe I can get one more crawfish boil in before it's over! Punching bag, now that sounds like it would…
  • Don't think I haven't tried it! lol... hasn't worked, yet!
  • Thank you all for the pointers! Looks like I have some investments to make soon.
