  • @Just_Ceci : I agree that @sbl1881 should slow down - that's what I learned after my first failed attempt at C25K. The way I heard it was basically, if you can run any slower then you're running too fast. However, the advice that you should be able to hold a conversation or sing a song while you're running would never work…
  • What heybales was saying was that you may be trying to lose weight too fast, causing your body to burn muscle and slow down its metabolism. (The rule I've learned says that a deficit of 750 calories a day is only for people who need to lose more than 50 pounds.) As a result, your Fitbit may be overestimating how many…
  • That's a great idea, Lyssa. That way, your schedule can vary.
  • Week 5 Day 3 done!!!! 2 full miles (26 minutes, 20 seconds) running without walking or stopping! I wanted to quit several times, but I pushed through. It did help that the additional 1/2 mile is a relatively level stretch (the additional 1.1 mile that I have to add to get to 5K is very un-level!). The headwind during the…
  • @pineygirl : My son doesn't like it either, probably for the same reason. He just can't always get those steps in. If I didn't have enough control over my ability to get up and move, I'd hate it too. You can always just get rid of the tile so you don't have to see it. It might be nice if the hours didn't have to be…
  • I do wonder if there hasn't been an algorithm change. When I first got my Charge HR (January 2015) the RHR it came up with was definitely high. I'd been measuring it at around 50 or below first thing in the morning, and Fitbit had it over 60. Then, at some point, the Fitbit number came down a bit, to the upper 50s, but my…
  • Mine has dropped a bit in the last week or so, which I didn't expect. I had been on blood pressure meds and the doctor decided I should try a trial off of them (I've lost a lot of weight and gotten more fit and was having pretty low readings sometimes). When I went off the meds, my RHR dropped from around 55 to around 50.…
  • @Aine8046 : I didn't run two days in a row (although I'm occasionally tempted to do that), I just took only one day off between Week 4 and Week 5, rather than two days, as I'd originally intended. Looking ahead at the weather forecast, keeping to the schedule may be a challenge this coming weekend as we're supposed to get…
  • W5D2 done. I'll admit, at this point the idea of running 2 full miles without walking on my next run is now intimidating me a bit. I did the 3/4 mile runs today without too much trouble, but the one that was mostly uphill was pretty tough and I was feeling it in my knees by the end of the final run. I always worry about my…
  • Thanks, retirehappy. I've up voted it and posted a comment.
  • My stride length on the treadmill is much, much shorter than normal running or walking. So, pick which you're going to do the most of and calibrate your stride length for that. When it comes to walking, you probably want to calibrate your walking stride when at a normal, casual walking pace so that it will be as accurate…
  • @Aine8046 : Good for you for doing it anyway. That weather sounds awful. I started W5 yesterday. I'd been planning to take the standard 2 days off between weeks, but when I looked at my plans for today and the weather forecast, I decided it would be better to do it a day early. It wasn't as good a run as on Friday, but I…
  • To see the math that MFP uses to calculate your Fitbit adjustment, go to the Exercise page, and click on the little 'i' next to it. If you haven't already, I'd recommend reading the FAQ found in the stickies. Here's a handy link:…
  • Mainly the fact that there is no reason to log exercise in MFP since you seemed to be wondering if logging food in MFP and exercise in Fitbit was potentially causing problems. However, if you haven't read it, there's lots of good info there.
  • Week 4 done! Yesterday felt really good. I'm not dreading week 5 because I wasn't feeling desperate to stop running at any point. I just ran really, really slowly up the hills and made sure not to increase my speed too much on the downhill sections. I am really enjoying running outside instead of on the treadmill. When I…
  • From what I've seen, there isn't a widespread syncing problem at the moment (when it it widespread, there's lots and lots of posts about it here). If you haven't already, try the disconnect/reconnect procedure (disconnect in MFP, revoke access in Fitbit, wait a while, reconnect in MFP) and if that doesn't solve it you may…
  • MFP wants you to log everything here because it keeps your eyeballs on their site. Don't listen to them. Log your exercise in Fitbit and your food in MFP. In my experience the double food entry in Fitbit is an occasional, but infrequent, problem and I just delete the extras. I'd recommend that you read the FAQ in the…
  • I'd love that reminder, too. I missed one hour in the middle of the day yesterday and if I'd had a "you haven't moved enough" reminder I could have gotten it. I can tell evenings are going to be hardest for me, so I may turn off the last hour or two of the day.
  • @AlexBoBalex79 : Does the food you log in MFP show up in Fitbit? When you go to the Exercise page in MFP (or the diary if using the mobile app), do you have a "Fitbit Calorie Adjustment" entry? In my experience, I pretty much always see my food syncing over to Fitbit, so if that isn't happening, then I'd guess the accounts…
  • Yes, that's exactly right. Your calories burned reported by Fitbit are less that MFP expects based on your stats and activity level, so you have a negative adjustment. However, it is pretty close, so - given that today was a non-exercise day for you - it looks like your chosen MFP activity level is pretty accurate. It just…
  • If you go to the Exercise page in MFP (website - you get to the same info on the mobile app from the diary), you should see an entry for "Fitbit Calorie Adjustment". There will be a little 'i' next to it. Click on that (touch, and touch again in the mobile app). You should see something like this: This shows you the math…
  • Yes, you can have two Fitbits linked to the same account. Just look on Fitbit's site for instructions.

  • That was my hypothesis at one point as well - that editing a previously entered meal was what caused it. Then, at some point I was able to conclusively prove that wasn't the case. A meal that I entered by just copying from a previous day, and that I didn't edit, ended up with multiple meal summaries in Fitbit, only one of…
  • It's probably a problem on the MFP end. I wouldn't focus so much on whether your step count is showing up on MFP. That is just a symptom that things aren't working, but MFP doesn't use your step count to compute anything. It just displays it. I'd check the math that MFP is using to calculate the adjustment. You check the…
  • It just appeared on my Fitbit app on my phone. For my Fitbit dashboard on the web, I had to add the tile. The mobile app actually gives more information than is available on the website - it will show "Longest Stationary Period" and your active and stationary percentages for the day.
  • It has happened to me occasionally. I've never been able to find a pattern to figure out the cause. I look on MFP to see what the actual meal calorie count was, then go onto the Fitbit food page and delete the extras. It's a pain, but I sometimes use the average calories in vs. calorie burned figures (on my Fitbit profile…
  • Thanks, retirehappy! I'll give it a try. I'd prefer something that only went off when I hadn't moved enough, but an hourly reminder - as long as it isn't too intrusive - might do.
  • W4D2 done. Slower than last time, and I had a bit of a stitch in my side for a while (I concentrated on breathing and it got better), but I didn't have to drop to a walk, so I'm happy. I was hot and sweaty when I got back, but felt pretty good a little while later. I'm a little worried that my shoes are wrong. They felt…
  • I like it, too. Right now I have it set for the maximum hours, but I think I'll end up cutting back a couple once I've watched my pattern for a while. I wish they'd add the "reminder to move" feature to models other than the Alta, but I guess they want to keep that feature as a selling point for the Alta, at least for a…
  • No, wouldn't add minor things like housework. Your Fitbit should do an adequate job of tracking that sort of thing and you don't want to add exercise calories that are already accounted for in your daily activity level.
