  • yup :) I never said it was impossible, but in my opinion and based off of my experience it can be difficult due to the environment.
  • What I said is not the case entirely at all. I in no way meant to make a sweeping generalization. But it is one of the realities that many people face. Restriction of calorie intake DOES work. But, like I've mentioned I believe there are other factors that play a part as well. In my field, I have come across people in…
  • That is very very true. The willpower does have to be there. External factors do absolutely play a part and can make the difficult process of losing weight even more difficult, but it can be done. I just wish more people would remember that obesity is a complex issue and there is no one solution that helps all.
  • I do actually. That's my field. You act as though I was talking directly to you lol. If it's not what you believe then that's awesome. But, many people make sweeping generalizations about how to fix obesity and those are the people that I am talking to. And, those people make up a very large part of MFP. Sorry if you don't…
  • That is very true. But, what if you are not aware of the amount of calories you are consuming in a day? What if what you mostly have access to is junk food and fast food? You might think that your not eating much, but there are choices on many of these fast food menus that are close to 1000 calories for one meal. Those…
  • Wrong choice of words. Yes, I know that it's about the calories you consume and the calories you burn. I'm speaking to the fact that people are saying external factors are not to blame at all. It seems quite silly to me.
  • I'm sorry but I call BS. You cannot fit obesity into a neat small little box. Sorry to break it to some of you guys, but for MANY people external factors ARE to blame. Individual responsibility is a part of it, but you are naïve if you think external factors don't play a major part. Every heard of food deserts? Places…
  • Kentucky Fried Chicken decided to change its name to KFC in 1991 for several reasons, none of which had anything to do with governmental regulations about mutant animals: • A move to de-emphasize "chicken" because KFC planned to offer a varied menu that included other types of food. (The Boston Chicken corporation took the…
  • okay i may have worded that incorrectly. i know there is fat on my quads but i know its minimal in the area I was asking about. i don't think this thread will get very interesting for you lol.
  • thank you! true! i think i worded that wrong... i know i have fat on my quads but I do know it's very minimal. i know my body fat isn't low enough for it to be all muscle. wrong choice of words there!
  • Thanks, I'll keep going and revisit this if it becomes an issue. Was just curious!
  • i've gained close to an inch.
  • thank you I'll look into that!
  • no issue right now... i want to continue lifting heavy but I notice that for a lot of people who are dedicated to lifting heavy their quads jut out dramatically towards the bottom. just wanted to know if there was a way to avoid that or if it's unavoidable and comes with the territory of lifting heavy. im good for now.
  • i'm eating at maintenance now. I wanted to make sure I had enough energy for lifting. I'll try eating at a deficit to see what happens. In terms of my quads, I can't squeeze anything its all muscle. the fat is more centralized now on my inner thighs.
  • thanks for your advice! right now I eat at maintenance (sometimes more but we wont talk about that lol) here are some of my pics. like i said I don't have crazy muscles but my thighs are getting bigger and I'm just wondering what I could do to avoid my quads jutting out.
  • it's funny because my story is the complete opposite of yours. I gained MOST of my weight in college. 80 pounds after gaining about 20 in highschool. getting a full time job after college is what helped me lose weight believe it or not. the office job gave my life some structure. You said you lived in Long Island? I'm from…
  • im so interested/confused when i see other peoples response to spanking/smacks etc with kids. In the Caribbean community, as a child you are going to get your *kitten* BEAT if you disrespect your elders. Jamaicans, Trinis, Hatians etc. etc. etc do NOT play that foolishness whatsoever. yes, if you are out of line you are…
  • Maybe you would feel better if you asked a trainer/worker at the gym to show you how to use the machines properly? It sounds like you panic because your not quite sure how to use them/what to do. That may subside if you feel like you know exactly what your doing. All gyms usually show new members how to use the machines if…
  • yes. so much. i def cut back because of trying to lose weight but the real reason I hardly drink now is because my boyfriend doesnt like drinking. i respect his feelings and we are together a lot so my days of drinking all night with my girls (the single life) is a distant memory. i really miss my rowdy weekends though :(…
  • Just like a lot of people on here, I see myself as very fat even though I've lost almost 100 pounds. I think it's more due to some extra skin that just makes me feel so gross and just not happy with my body. I mean don't get me wrong; I'm much happier with my body now then I was before but I thought when I was at my goal…
  • Losing weight is about the number of calories you take in. You take in too much you will gain weight. You take in enough to hit your TDEE you will maintain. You take a reasonable amount below your TDEE you will lose weight. This goes for any foods that have calories. You eat too much of anything and you will gain weight.…
  • lol i just wanted to bump for further reading but i see this thread turned into a clusterf*** while i was away
  • It's definitely not simple at all, BUT it is a necessary skill that people have to learn in order to truly change their habits and make this a lifestyle change. In my opinion people NEED to be able to learn to stop at one slice, one piece etc.... if not, how are they supposed to go through life? Avoid foods they love…
  • just eat it if it fits into your day. if it doesnt for pizza i'll make my own. lots lower calorie recipes online. and for chocolate i usually make a cup of hot chocolate. the dark chocolate caramel starbucks pack i found in target :)
  • I think she was talking to the user "whierd" not you. Shes not using the quotes lol
  • Same here. I live in New York and me and boyfriend are always exploring so I easily get in 3 or 4 or more miles in every day. The only reason I don't log it as exercise is because it is something I do every day and my body is so used to it. Plus, the calorie burn from it is probably lower now that I have lost weigh. Like…
  • thanks everyone!
