Not a shake or bar, but I often find myself in a hurry and just eat a can of tuna or sardines right outa the can. Not packed in oil kinds. I find if I purchase a box of bars of any kind I cant stop.

Basically its a good source of Omega 3 fats....the good ones. The reason flax seeds are popular is that you dont want to put a hunk of salmon in your smoothie, but flax seeds you do. There are also claims of disease preventative effects too.

Any program will work providing it challenges your body. Diet > workout to simply drop weight. Diet + workout is better.....lose weight and get in shape. There is a big debate on that. One of the better responses I've seen says that if you have the energy to do cardio after lifting, then your not lifting hard enough. Better to put more energy into your lifting routine. Regardless most say no if you did legs.

Front, left and right planks might work for you as they offer less repetitive motion. Many consider planks to be among the better core exercises.

In regards to not wanting to bulk up: That is entirely a diet issue. If your in a deficit of daily calories you wont gain size. But do make sure you don't work out on an empty stomach and also have a little something after you work out.

If you're just starting to lift, you may want to consider a full body compound exercise routine. The difference would be that you wont be isolating muscles such as biceps, quads, etc. They are a great way to hit your you're entire body with 6 exercises.
