  • I can see how it happens to someone. I started 2015 at 490 pounds. By the start of Dec 2015 I was 530. I am 100% positive that I would have cracked 600 by the end of 2016. Fortunately I'm getting help from my doctor and medical staff, and am back down to 490 over the last 8 weeks. I may (although won't be disappointed if I…
  • Yes, if your starting weight is 350 or 400+. That's because your calorie deficit still allows you to live while losing that much. What is your starting weight?
  • 3 months ago? Ice Cream! (Cherry Garcia, to be specific). Today? Pineapple!
  • Great job getting started! I started (again) at 530lbs about 7 weeks ago and have seen great results. You will too. I do recommend you visit the doctor, though. I say this as a fellow big man who is only a year older than you. For me, getting a full blood workup and a chat with my doctor (after having not gone for 5 years)…
  • I weigh daily, but only track losses. In an average week I only have a loss on 2 days (3 at the most). Even though I have more "bad days" than good on the scale, I've lost a significant amount of weight over the last 7 weeks. If you can be focused on the long-term and not get upset when the scale shows a gain, then…
  • Why not aim for .5 to 1 pound loss per week? That will help prevent some loose skin. In addition you should absolutely make sure a significant portion of your gym time is weight training. That will help too.
  • The time of day doesn't matter. Just be consistent and weigh yourself at whatever time you choose. That'll be morning for most.
  • How are you ensuring and tracking your calories?
  • Do I count if I have 300+ to lose? :) Been at it for about 6 weeks now, down about 35 pounds. Limiting to 2k cal/day. Doing so under the direction of my doctor and dietitian. Meet with the dietitian weekly. Been an interesting and fun few months!
  • +100 on using the scale. I found I was WAY underestimating the calories I was eating. Weigh everything. Sauces. Oils. Pepper. Whatever. It made a huge difference for me.
  • Over the last 5 weeks I've lost 30 pounds. Now, to be fair, I started at 530, so a large loss isn't a shock! I'm doing it under the care of my doctor, meet weekly with my dietician at the hospital, and track EVERY. SINGLE. THING. I eat into MFP. Even over the course of that 5 weeks, eating 2000-2500 calories a day, I've…
  • Idea: don't weigh yourself for a month. Literally. Instead set up some very easy-to-achieve goals. Things like: 1 - I won't eat fast food more than once per week (if you eat an at all now) 2 - I will track everything I eat into MFP (REALLY easy to do with the phone app) 3 - I will do some sort of exercise every day. That…
  • I have 300 pounds to lose (literally!) to be at a healthy weight. I'm aware it's going to at least 2-3 years to get there. I've decided to ignore outcome goals ("losing X number of pounds") and focus on process goals instead ("I'll work out 4 days per week", "I'll eat 3 cups of vegetables per day", "I will log every single…
