  • Shame you couldn't make it to the fitting, a lot of this could then have been avoided. As others have said, I'm sure you could exchange the dress for a size that fits. The style of the dress is a tricky area. If your sister was paying for it then she could be as fussy as she liked but as she expects you to pay for it…
  • My student daughter is home for the summer and she has completely taken over the menus and food preparation. I still buy the stuff but otherwise she'sin charge. It's been a lovely break for me and she really enjoys cooking. She seems to find most of her recipes on-line. Being in the UK, the BBC website has some great…

  • I'm a similar age to you and know all about the middle-age wake up! Just goes to show that we can be as slim and fit as the young 'uns if we go for it. I get so annoyed with people saying middle-aged spread is inevitable. Many congratulations on what you have achieved. :flowerforyou:
  • Sadly I've had to stop taking high dose omega 3 as they give me really bad acne. It took me ages to work out what was causing it as they're generally considered good for the skin. Obviously this is an unusual side-effect but I thought I'd mention it in case someone else was plagued with it and just couldn't understand why…
  • This is almost exactly what is happening to me. I had been quit for a year before getting my act together with diet and exercise. I substituted rubbish food for cigarettes; for some reason I have a 'need a reward' personality and sweets became my reward to myself instead of the *kitten*. I seem to have overcome this now…
  • Same here, 19lbs down but no noticeable change in my appearance. I really wish I'd measured myself at the start so that at least I had that visual proof, as well as the weighing scales. I think that I regard myself as 'fat' when I'm over a certain weight and cannot see myself as slimmer until I've got down below that.…
  • Sorry but as boobs are made of glandular tissue and fat then no exercise on earth is going to change their shape. Exercise will only strengthen the underlying muscle. I have no idea what exercise as I have never found it. I'm post menopausal, breast fed two kids in my younger days and nature has blessed me with a…
  • I also suffer from binge-eating but since using this site to log my meals it has been much less of a problem. I don't know why but something about typing it all out helps me resist. From what I have read there do seem to be various strategies for coping with this and you may have to try a few before you get control of it.…
  • Hi, I'm 49 3/4 and am on the same wavelength. Weight was creeping on gradually until I quit smoking 13 months ago and ballooooned! This is a really good site and works very well. It really opens your eyes to how much and what you're eating when you examine your diet closely and weigh out the 'normal' portion. It's working…
  • A drop of apple cider in my chickens' drinking water prevents them getting worms :ohwell:
  • I make room in my allowance for most foods I fancy, even if it does mean the rest of the day being a little lean. I thought I would miss chocolate as I'm a regular chocaholic but I dont fancy it at all :indifferent: But occasionally I get a really big craving for doughnuts, I never even ate that many pre-healthy diet.…
  • Best: Lovely hubby overheard on phone to eldest daughter "you know your Mother has lots of determination" (I do? Thank you :flowerforyou:) Worst: The woman who is married to my Father "My God Susan, when did you get so FAT?" :explode:
  • We all have different body shapes and can only work with what we have. Personally I have a disproportionately large lower half and a non-existent bosom, a real pear-shape. When I am fit I am just a smaller, less flabby pear-shape. You have done very well to get to where you are and you should feel very proud of yourself.…
  • I have always preferred to eat late in the day and losing weight was often sabotaged by late night snacking. I am managing to lose weight by doing the following. Plan your meals to suit you. I changed my diary to Lunch/Dinner/Supper with supper being my bed-time 'meal'. I've never been a breakfast eater and can't see the…
  • This is probably a normal reaction to a day of extreme eating after a period of smaller more sensible meals. It's not that surprising really. Although the prolonged nature of your upset stomach may indicate some sort of bug (if you're in the UK, norovirus is everywhere at the moment) or food poisoning. Hope you feel better…
  • Hair loss was the first symptom I took any real notice of when diagnosed with Hashimoto's 24 years ago after the birth of my first daughter. I thought the general exhaustion was a symptom of post-natal depression. Even though my blood levels have been consistently good for years (I take 200mcg levothyroxine a day), I still…
  • You are doing superbly. You give me lots of encouragement as I am on a similar mission. Thanks for posting :flowerforyou:
  • With 13 years of difficulties behind me I finally decided to lose weight and find MFP an excellent resource. I have other places to discuss my various life dramas and would not discuss them here. Here is where I come looking for "motivation and support" for my attempts at leading a healthier life, only to read that…
  • Hashimotos 24 years ago, no thyroid left now, on 200mcg synthoid daily. I've found losing weight difficult but not impossible. We just have to be committed to it.
  • I agree that you are doing this for yourself and shouldn't need to look to others for validation. You are doing superbly and should be proud. It's the same when you quit smoking, a week later you're still craving for a *kitten* but everyone else has forgotten you ever smoked:huh:
  • I'm exactly the same. I always blame my body type. I'm pear-shaped with relatively short legs and just don't suit running/jogging. Luckily there are plenty of other exercise options :)
